There's not really a problem with it sounding similar to Luffy. In the Japanese version, Kuririn basically sounds exactly like Luffy. Also, Clinkenbeard sounds younger as Goku.
bkev wrote:Yep, your usual unnecessary stuff FUNI seems to like adding to convince us dragonball's not a kid's show. You can hear it in the "boobies" clip from Bulma. Also, I'm pleasantly surprised by Colleen Clinkenbeard's Goku. I didn't expect to like it, but I do - she's almost perfect for Goku!
What? They're talking about sexual harassment of an UNDERAGE girl, asking to see her breasts, take her panties, and MOLEST her, and you're complaining about a couple of Hells thrown around? Seriously, plenty of PG movies have that kind of cursing. Hell, hell is barely a swear word at all.

For you, maybe. But personally, I take issue with it.

"Gurumes" just looks better to me. Plus, it's written that way in the actual movie.

I don't know how I feel about this movie's dub. On one hand we have an updated cast (with no Nadolny & Vollmer

) but then we got, for the most part, the old edited script.

I am undecided.

I'd like to see actual video clips before I decide on whether it's great or not, but I'll probably still buy it to support the Kai cast. Clinkenbeard and Rial sound great from those audio clips.

But... that's what happens when an actor plays two different characters. So you don't like either Japanese Luffy or Kuririn, because they sound the same?

I see, I guess that must've been what the "Yuck" was for.

Because Gokū and Luffy are very similar characters, and I just don't want them having the same voice on top of that. Also, I don't watch One Piece in Japanese, so I'm not very familiar with Luffy's Japanese voice.

Luffy requires more acting range than Gokû, therefore the performances will differ. If Clinkenbeard is talented enough that will come off in the performance as with does with Tanaka's Kuririn and Luffy.

I am undecided.
The old dub had Henderson as Gokuh, and O'Hara as Bulma. They were excellent in their roles, so without an updated script, this new dub isn't any different from the old one aside from the new scenes.

The most important fact is that the footage is uncut and we have the Japanese version.

I'd much rather watch it in English, though. But if the script is inaccurate, I don't want to watch it. Also, I don't really like watching a show in Japanese if it doesn't have the original Japanese video footage, or text properly translated from the Japanese video footage. In the case of DB/DBZ/DBGT, FUNi gives us their own made-up names for movies and episode titles, and an opening without the proper credits. It bothers me. Plus I'm not going to buy it for the Japanese version unless it has the remastered audio from the
Dragon Box release. So I guess I'm just gonna wait for a
Dragon Box release that probably won't ever come...

Hey, let's do this... TANOOKI STYLE!
Here is the back cover and side bar:

A sprinkle of screen shots for good measure:
Preview clips:
So, I went ahead and made one huge preview clip, and a second not so huge. Please don't use these Youtube videos to compare the actual video transfer of the DVD. To state the obvious, it looks better on DVD.

The script isn't that far off from the Japanese version. I was watching some parts in English with the Japanese subtitles on and, it wasn't
really that bad.

I'm so freakin happy that its fullscreen. Yeah, its intended to be widescreen and all that but I have the Dragon Box for that, plus you get extra picture on the top and bottom. And now it will be consistent with all my old movie singles. I'll be picking this up as soon as I see it.

Hey! You're right! Bulma actually didn't go insult crazy on Gokuh like in the old dub. Thanks for the clips, by the way!

Dammit, it's a shame this wasn't widescreen. Oh well.
