Schemmel's screams..

Am I the only one who thinks Sean Schemmel's screams as Goku are too painful to listen to? I'm referring to last nights episode in particular. When Oozaru Vejiita crushed him, you could feel his pain. Another scene to point out is in movie 6 when Cooler has Goku tied up and is electricuting him. Is it fair to say that Schemmel is the best VA as far as screams go?

I've always thought he was pretty good at screaming. He probably doesn't smoke, unlike certain other actors who can't scream as well.

A while back when the VHS tape of the episode where Goku went Super Saiyan 3 came out, I was really amazed at his screaming ability. He was able to hold the scream for so damn long it was nuts. I actually emailed him about it and he replied back with (something like), "Thanks! Screaming really hurts."

Compare that to Sabat's scream during Vegeta's suicide attack against Boo. It sounds like he has no lung capacity whatsoever.

At least he can actually scream. Ever heard the Blue Waters dub with Kirby Morrow as Goku? It's not even a scream or yell, at most it's a semi-efficient call.

I also like his "Goku getting kicked in the balls" scream that he did in the behind the scenes extra and in movie #7. Had to say his was more believable than Ms. Nozawa's, which is kind of understandable.

In the "Goku Vs. Vegeta" featurette on the first Ultimate Uncut DVD, Schemmel describes how he always tries to make Goku's screams as realistic as possible. He says that if Goku gets kicked in the crotch, he "really tries to make it sound like he got hit in the business." He then proceeds to do a rather humorous imitation of this.

Anywho, I also was quite shocked at the realism of Goku's painful scream last night as well. Almost as shocked as I was when I heard Vegeta scream "DAAAAAAMN YOU!!"

Eh, I feel the complete opposite with Schemmel. He loves to do 'girl screams' for Gokuu that comes off so akward and bad. But that's just me.

Yeah, but it don'st feel so awkard when the original seiyuu does it...

But with Schemmel... he puts on this 'super hero' voice for Goku.. and does these REALLY girly screams.

Anyway, I think his screams near the end of the episode--especially the one where Oozaru Vegeta grabs him with his hands--sounded painful.

I agree. They really sounded like he's hurtin'. I think the way Sabat did Vegeta and Vegetto in the Buu saga pretty badly. I think he did well in the movies, Cell, and the new Saiyan saga.

I never really thought of it as a girly scream, I just think it really added to Goku's character. He's Godly powerful, then gets smacked around and lets out his scream. I think it's humorous (at least in some cases), and suits Goku's silly, lighthearted, carefree child-like personality.
I like hearing it in Supersonic Warriors.
