I'm pretty sure if there was an Ocean dub we would have heard something new by now.

Just thought i'd chime in here with some news. Paul Dobson (Zarbon in FUNimation's 1996 dub) confirmed that production of the Canadian DBZ Kai dub is, in fact, going through Ocean Studios. He also went on to say that "there's been word of re-casting [and] there's been word of holding onto members of the cast as the way that they were." Mostly hearsay though its the first news we've had of Ocean DBZK in the past few months.

It's about time we hear a little more about this!
Kentai wrote:Son Gokuu is a fascinating character anyway, because he is - at face value, anyway - an idiot savant. But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

The voiceprint with Paul Dobson. I've been meaning to listen to it to see if Paul would mention anything about Kai.

Good to have more information. Paul has confirmed at least 2 things:

1) Dragon Ball Kai's dub will be recorded at Ocean Studios (and not Blue Water Studios)
2) Ocean are keeping cast members who worked on Dragon Ball Z, for Kai. :D

Speaking of which, I wonder if Ken Morrison has anything to do with this dub....

Thank god we have more info. I was starting to doubt all of this, but just maybe! Anyways it is pretty awesome to know some actors keep their roles. Maybe Gohan's actor...?
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

It was excellent! I always love watching the dead zone and hearing Gohan say "those three...?" and then get drunk off those apple like things.
I maybe a loner on this but I am hoping Peter Kelamis will get Goku even though I doubt he will.

If his Goku is more like his DBZ movie performances and less like his UK dub performance then I'm right there with you!

I think he could be, if the whole thing is taken pretty seriously. He sounded bad in the UK DBZ but so did all of the other actors, most notably Drummond and McNeil.

Well, Stargate Universe was canceled so it's not like Peter Kelamis isn't available.

Agreed. A big reason for this is Funimation usually lacks the actors who are able to really emote the characters' respective personalities.
Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Let me get this straight. FUNimation's dub aired in Australia, the U.S.A and New Zealand. Ocean's dub aired in Canada, the U.K and the Netherlands. How is that not common sense?
That doesn't have anything to do with what you said previously, even so it's not common sense, the broadcasting of the dubs in the respective countries is common knowledge.

Saffron Henderson's scream in DBZ movie 1 just before Gohan blasted Garlic Jr into the dead zone is amazing. Hopefully she is among the returning cast.

What do you mean by "usually"? If you're talking about back when they started dubbing DBZ, then that's fine and dandy. But nowadays, they have a pretty big talent pool.

Yes it does. I said that more people have seen FUNimation's dub (of the whole series). Common sense dictates that statement is indeed true. Plus, FUNimation's DBZ dub is still airing on Cartoon Network Australia.

Funimation's got a great pool of actors that are able to cover the emotions well. I'll give you the ability to argue whether or not Ocean's Dub was better than Funi's dub (their first dub, mind you)...but Funi's Kai dub is so far beyond anything Ocean did with DB it's insane.

That said, an Ocean Kai could match that level if the right factors are in place.

But, I'm curious as to how long the dub will have people in the dark before we learn more concrete details about it...

Yikes, I forgot he was attached to that. Let's hope he does return, because I'd hate for him to be out of work.

But then again, maybe an entirely new Goku is called for.

YES! That was too awesome, but then I heard FUNi's attempt and was disappointed. Henderson's scream sounded like a typical angry child; it was acted so well too.

That's true, but back in 2003 at least for me I got UKs Cartoon Network feed for awhile. It was kinda freaky.
It was during the android saga (oceans worst dubbed saga?) They did better with Boo.

Also did anyone record Dobson's statement with kai? Does ken have any official announcement yet?

One things certain, Ocean needs a home release!! And not a release that's based on the TV airings..

Colleen would do better imo, never really liked Nadolny's performance..

I'm not trying to start a "which dub is better" argument. Both the Ocean and FUNi Z dubs are mediocre. I'm not a fan of either of them.
