I loved the Arlia episode, and SSJ2 Goku vs Kid Buu, and the gratuitous amounts of blood and beating that was added to the anime when Freeza was pulverizing Vegeta, specifically the part where Vegeta coughs out blood which lands on Freeza's face, who proceeds to lick it. Really creepy, but suits Freeza

Oh yeah, and the King Vegeta flashback filler too, one of my favourites, I love anything that expands upon saiyan history

I liked fake Namek.

Even though it added nothing whatsoever to the story, I thought it was an interesting diversion.

I also liked the King Vegeta stuff.

I really liked Base Goku and Vegeta fighting Dabra. I don't know why, but it was just cool to see the Base Saiyans doing something for once.

I love to indulge in a bit of filler. I tend to dislike arcs, as they try to live up to the success of the main canon, but stand-alone episodes are great fun in escaping the general main plot.

1. The one, the only, driving episode. The premise itself is giggle-worthy, and the episode takes it up to 11 with the ridiculous driving plot.
2. The episode where Goku goes to the Makai (Demon Realm?). It was a really interesting bit of mythology that they played with there.
3. InoShikaChou. I just liked the little idea of cameoing Tenshinhan and Chaozu before their first canon appearance.

Other favorites are the episode after Boo's defeat where the Z-Senshi do random things for no reason (naked fusion :D ), Princess Snake, and that thing with Husky in the amusement park.

I second all of these, especially the episode after Buu's defeat and Husky, because they're both really amusing.

Buu stopping crimes and Goku's infamous pants-drop? Good stuff.

-Gohan returning to fight Freeza
-Most of the Saiyan arc filler
-The infamous "Goku and Piccolo learn how to drive" episode

And... that's pretty much it from what I can remember at the moment.

Best

The stuff with Pikkon and the after life tournament. Even though it didnt make much sense that Pikkon could knock out Super Perfect Cell and then struggle and lose to MSSJ Goku (who a suppressed pre zenkai Perfect Cell beat).

All the small stuff in the Saiyan arc, Arlia and stuff like that.

Vegeta's huge power up against Frieza after his zenkai.

Worst

Yamcha slamming and kicking the crap out of Olibu. The same Olibu who in other filler gave Pikkon trouble, and Pikkon who in turn KOed Super Perfect Cell

Yamcha >>> Super Perfect Cell??

It would be quicker to say I adored all of the original Dragon Ball filler with the exception of that one episode where Silver burns down a forest populated by monkeys...that I was rather apathetic about.

As for Z I greatly enjoyed the Saiyan saga filler. The Illusion Saiyans, Planet Arlia, Yamucha's baseball career and of course Princess Snake come to mind. I pretty much liked all of that sagas filler I guess.

Watching Gohan and Goku enjoy the peace before the Cell games was also great. I found Gohan hanging out with his grandpa at the end of the Cell arc very touching too. The Great Saiyaman expansion was the last bit of filler I remember enjoying so I'll end with that.

Saiya-jin arc's filler.

Any background on King Vegeta or Vegeta...

Ooo, and the ''Inside Buu'' filler.

- The squirrel-scene right before Bulma comes to check Cell's time machine.

That just melt my heart......because it's made of iceeeee.

- Vegeta & Trunks in the time chamber.

Not only does it look fantastic, but the dub handled it spectacularly. I mean def poetry jam, heck yeah.

Hellspawn28 wrote:The After-life tournament always been my favorite filler arc. I wish Paikkuhan (Paikuhan) would appear more often in the series since he was only had a small cameo in GT.
Yes, yes, yes. :D Those were the episodes that got me into the series, so I'll always love them. Paikuhan is pretty badass, for an anime-original character. Great design by Toriyama. (You say he had a cameo in GT? I don't remember seeing him... He was definitely needed in the Super #17 arc, though. What the hell, Toei?!)
penguintruth wrote:Pretty much all the Saiyan arc filler. That's right, every little scene of Gohan playing with a squirrel or being chased by a tiger.

I love Yamucha playing baseball. Lunch trying to impress Tenshinhan. Goz and Mez. Princess Snake. Piccolo lifting pyramids. Orphans. Nappa destroying fleets. Chi-Chi dressed as Rambo. All of it.
Oh yes, the Saiyan filler is a real treat. I'm actually currently watching most of it for the first time, since I got Dragon Box 1 for Christmas. In the first 14 episodes, I haven't been bored for a second. They definitely had the pacing down during this portion of the story. What the hell happened later on, Toei...? :?

I especially liked the episode where Tenshinhan was training under the waterfall. It's just amazing that we get to see more of Lunch, and her "relationship" with Tenshinhan!

However, while I find all of this enjoyable, I don't agree with anyone that says the anime did it better than Toriyama. I like that Toriyama skipped most of the training. Toriyama's good a getting to the point. Sure, we get to know Gohan a little better, and Gohan gets some "development" (even though, like most filler development, it's completely ignored later on. Gohan's still a coward during the Saiyan fight, no matter how many robots or dinosaurs he met). But the story worked just fine in the manga, without any of that.
Tanooki Kuribo wrote:I know most people wouldn't agree, but all the Pilaf stuff in the first 9 episodes (of DB) are filler, and I really enjoy it. I found it odd that in the manga, Pilaf just appears near the end of the first arc.
I definitely agree. Unlike the stuff in the Saiyan arc, I like the animated Pilaf stuff better. Not that the manga doesn't work without it, but Pilaf is fleshed out a lot more in that first anime arc.
Sun-Wukong wrote:Great Saiyaman, they hit it out of the ball park with that one.
Agreed. These were also some of the first episodes I saw, and I was really entertained. (The manga did it really well, too, in its own way.) Much better than the endless fighting that was to follow. I quickly switched to the manga after seeing how much the story dragged, later on.

Immediately after Kibito is killed in episode 221.

Ah okay, I just watched it. Only lasted for a few seconds, and was in an episode I likely hadn't seen. No wonder I didn't remember.

Okay, so maybe that first episode of Z was a little too much with the filler. Kai handled it better with just a little of that.
Amen :D

I also liked the Pigero and the orphans filler episode :D They were some of my most favourite filler characters.
There was also the Goku travels around the world filler between the fight against Uranai Baba's fighters and the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai :)

I'll add the filler in which Piccolo, Tenshinhan, Yamucha, and Kuririn all try and help Gohan in his struggle against Cell.
