DVD case #1 has the same image of Gohan on the episode list menu.
DVD case #2 has the same image of Krillin on the audio/subtitles menu.

It's the scream that Stormtrooper does in the Death Star after Luke and Leia shoot him and he falls off that ledge.
Also in RotJ when the Rebels storm the Endor shield generator and Han shoots the Imperial officer that falls back over the railing.

Vegeta is Han Solo, the Wilhelm scream cameos in Kai, Mecha Freeza is Darth Vader, Big Gete Star = Death Star...

I knew I tiered DBZ and Star Wars so closely together for a reason.

Man, episodes 34 - 39 look absolutely gorgeous on the Blu Ray because of the 35mm film instead of the usual 16mm. I wish so much that all of Kai was at least done in 35mm, forget new animation, I mean just look at these episodes on Blu Ray and compare their quality.

Actually in fact, the first half of episode 34 is 16mm and the second half is 35mm, go watch episode 34 yourself and tell me you don't notice a sudden jump in the quality half way in to the episode.

Yeah I noticed that the episodes themselves, not including new footage, started to look beautiful. With the natural progression in quality as the show goes forth, I can imagine that Kai will look stellar later on in the series... At least until we get to the Boo stuff where some characters will look severely dis-proportioned from time to time (Gohan's arms being extremely skinny, etc.).

Say, is anyone playing the blu-ray version of this on a ps3 with an SDTV? I got it for christmas, and although it looks great, the aspect ratio is all messed up. Anyone have a similar problem?

That's because Blyrays are incapable of displaying anything other than 16:9. Anything in 4:3 or 21:9 has to have black bars hardcoded into the picture. It's absolutely ridiculous, and inferior to DVD's method of handling aspect ratio.

Well, I think it's better than watching a DVD with streched 4:3, which makes the charcters look fat and short as well as making the overall picture look terrible. :?

Yeah I can see that. You're going to have to hook it up to an HDTV if you want to see the picture correctly :/

There is a simple solution, I'm assuming that your problem is that your video is surrounded by black bars at the top and at the sides, right? so theres basically a border around the video. I had the same problem before. All you need to do is press Triangle on the PS3 controller, and then go to the Zoom Options, and click Zoom In and your problem will be fixed, the screen will be zoomed in and no more black bars.

Or if that isn't your problem try to give some more detail, I know for a fact that DBZKai on Blu Ray can be played properly on the PS3, you just gotta change the settings

Speaking of Ratio, on the Bluray with an HDTV the interview with is in 16:9 but it is fitted into 4:3 so I got the border around it. But a simple zoom fixed that.

I wanted definitely mention, even though it's not that note worthy.
In episode 39, when the fight between Piccolo and Freeza starts and Piccolo says "Shut the hell up.", was delivered pretty damn awesomely by Sabat and totally had me like "Fuck yeah!"

Hah, there was a clip of that floating around earlier. It was quite well done indeed.

Just got the BD set this morning and have watched thru the episode when Goku starts fighting the Ginyus. The dub is still amazing and I'm enjoying Vic Mignogna's take on Dragon Soul. Already can't wait for the next set though since Goku vs Freeza was awesome enough watching it edited on the Nicktoons site, the uncut Blu-Ray should be even better.

Except it's awesome, because it means you have to watch it 4:3. :)

Blu ray having 'anamorphic 4:3' would be better than how they do it now. That way, you'd have 4:3 aspect ratio without hardcoded black bars wasting precious resolution. Like dvd has 'anamorphic widescreen'. I think that's what he meant.

Those black bars are part of the picture, they're taking up space. There are probably dozens of Gigabytes wasted on a part of the image that nobody is interested in looking at. If it were done the same way as DVDs, only the image you need to see would be coded onto the disc, thus freeing up extra space, maybe even enough for another episode.

Another reason why DVD's > Blu-ray. If you want to get the best DBZ Kai viewing experience, just pop the DVD into an up scaling player.

Err... upscaling an image is never going to recreate the actual sharpness of an image that natively has that many pixels in it. You can trick yourself into thinking so, but when you compare them side-by-side, it's painfully obvious.

But I totally agree on the abomination that is Blu-ray aspect ratio encoding. What fucking nutjobs decided this...?!
