Re: I need help! I'm trying to rip/burn my JP Dragon Boxes ...
I would highly recommend a 1.5-2GB hard drive for all the JP Dbox rips. I made myself a "Dragon Drive" full of the JP Dbox rips (plus the Jump Special, all of the live action movies, Atsumare world, and Plan to Destroy the Super Saiyans, etc) for video editing purposes.
Do you want just to rip the discs as raw iso files or in vob files for making videos?
Since the JP Dboxes aren't protected like the FUNi Dboxes, just get DVD Decrpyter. It's free.

"iso" files? "vob" files? All I want is to store them for later use, perhaps.. burning them?.. I need more information than that, not just jokes.. I'm actually needing some real advice here.
Are you serious? He was being helpful...I don't really see any jokes in there. He even told you about a program you could use to rip them for free rather than spend $50. I think you may have misunderstood his post.

I have to leave work now, so I'll type up some extra advice if nobody gets to it by the time I get home.

I'd offer you some help, but I honestly don't know too much about this subject. Castor is probably one of your best bets on this forum in getting advice on this, because he makes music videos and knows how to rip the footage. DVDfab is a good program, however it's not necessary in your case because you don't need to worry about getting around copyright protection since you have the Japanese discs. Decrypter is a more "economical" route in your case.
Edit: Ah, of course two posts go through as I finish mine. Looks like you'll get your help!

Download DVDFab from this page. It's free to use for 30 days, so as long as you finish within a month you won't have to pay anything. Alternatively, as Castor Troy said, you can download DVD Decryptor from here.AnimeMaakuo wrote:Now, I'm going to use the program DVDfab..? So, I was going to buy the $50 thing, which includes the "DVDFab DVD Copy," but then I saw they had a "DVD Ripper???" So do I buy both.. It's $80? ..
Re: I need help! I'm trying to rip/burn my JP Dragon Boxes ...
If you don't have a clue what an ISO or VOB file is, than it's a sign you clearly need to do some research of your own to better inform yourself on the subject...AnimeMaakuo wrote:"iso" files? You'll have less misunderstandings in the long run.

Re: I need help! I'm trying to rip/burn my JP Dragon Boxes ...
I got DVDFab v5 today, it's not too complicated. I ripped "Cooler's Revenge" (steelbook), took about 15 minutes. The quality didn't look perfect though. I think it's a little off. Also, it looked worse when I imported it into AVS Video Editor.
Anyone got any tips to make the quality perfect?

Re: I need help! I'm trying to rip/burn my JP Dragon Boxes ...
Definition of an ISO: http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-an-iso-image.htm
It's basically your entire 8.5GB dvd as one file.
For example, if you ripped your DVD as an ISO, you'll have a "DBZ_20.iso" file that is 7-8GB large which is the entire DVD.
VOBs (Video Object) are the video files in your dvd inside the VIDEO_TS folder. Just put in one of your Dbox discs in your computer, access it and go into the VIDEO_TS folder and you'll see the VOB files. You can play them with vlc media player.
DVD decrypter can either rip your DVD as a plain iso file or all of the VOB files from the disc into a directory.
If you just want to archive the discs, then rip them as iso files and you can easily burn the iso files to blank dual layer discs and have perfect copies.
If you want to keep the video files on your computer to watch whenever you want or use them for video editing projects, then you can rip the VOB files to a directory. I would highly recommend calling the directory "DBZ Dbox Disc 20" or whatever you want. Most dvd burning programs like Roxio and Nero can easily detect all of the VOB files in the directory and burn them as a perfect copy of the disc. I actually recommend this method more so you can not only watch your files, but also edit them in any editing program. Getting the VOBs to be editable is a completely different task in itself, but there are guides that you can find for that.
This is really only the basic explanation and I haven't even touched the surface. There's literally a million things I've left out, but once you get the hang of DVD ripping, archiving, burning, editing, etc, you'll realize how incredibly valuable it is in preserving and even making fun stuff with your dvds.
All of this is probably extremely overwhelming, but take it one step at a time and I'll try to look for more detailed guides when I'm not tired after work and stuff. Good luck!

Re: I need help! I'm trying to rip/burn my JP Dragon Boxes ...
All you need to do is:AnimeMaakuo wrote:All I want though, is to just store the discs on my 1TB system, and rip/burn them in full quality. I'm not so sure I want to play around with them, I just want them all backed up preferably.. So I'm not sure that DVD decrypter is the thing I need.
- Yes this is very overwhelming lol. I'm not sure how to start.. Any advice? Someone said that you can't get 100% quality in ripping/burning with decrypter and dvdfab.. So I'm so lost. *slaps forehead*
Ripping to hard drive
1) Put your Dbox disc in your DVD drive.
2) Open DVD decrypter
3) Go to "Mode" > "ISO" > "Read". Make sure "Read" is checkmarked.
4) In "Source", select the DVD drive your Dbox disc is in. Below that, you should see something like "DBZ_1" next to "label".
5) In "Destination", click on the folder icon to the right to save the iso file wherever you want, most likely your new hard drive.
6) Click on the big DVD, green arrow, and hard drive picture on the bottom left.
7) Wait several minutes for the disc to rip. If you get a pop up saying something like it's going to bypass region coding/protection/etc, then click ok.
8 ) Profit!
----------------------
Burning to disc
1) Put a blank 8.5GB dual layer disc (pretty much all of the episode Dbox discs) or a 4.7GB single layer disc (The bonus discs) in your DVD burner
2) Open DVD decrypter
3) Go to "Mode" > "ISO" > "Write". Make sure "Write" is checkmarked.
4) Under "Source", click on the folder icon to the right and choose either the "DB(insert series letter here)_(insert disc number here).iso" or "DB(insert series letter here)_(insert disc number here).mds" file. The mds file was most likely made when you ripped your disc. I would recommend the mds file since it has the layer break commands, but you don't need to know the details of what a layer break is.
5) Click on the big hard drive, arrow, dvd image on the bottom left
6) Profit!
-------------
There, I made it simple. I hope.
Good luck with your ripping/archiving.
NOTE: Just for reference, you can't do this with the FUNi Dbox discs or pretty much most dvds made past 2006 thanks to new dvd protection. You'll have to get DVD Fab to rip those.
Re: I need help! I'm trying to rip/burn my JP Dragon Boxes ...
Like Castor Troy said, if you rip it as an ISO file, you have an identical copy of the disk in one file. The quality won't change; it's literally the data that was on the disk, saved as a file.
If TPP passes in your country it will be illegal for you to watch an imported DVD. Click here to learn more!

Does anyone know if I can rip my DBZ DVDs and few Blu-rays into something like mkvs for viewing on my tv media player? I have a Boxee box.
Would an mkv rip of them be the same quality?
