Heya, seems Mike has given the site a wee bit of a face lift. I love the inclusion of obscure characters in the...block thingys. Using #13 for the number of years is also cool. You've got enough material through the next seven years! :p

Wow, I hadn't even noticed the changing of the top barrier. Now I can't not notice it. That's bound to confuse any new visitors!

Looks pretty slick for the most part, although the little curves on the headings (those weren't there before, were they? I'm going to look like an idiot if I'm just now noticing this for the first time XD) look a little rough. Maybe it's an anti-aliasing issue, I dunno.

In the banner, those are all video game characters, correct? Is this going to be changed regularly? Because that's a pretty random thing to put up there.

Also, I think its a good idea to let people be able to see a link to the forums easier. Let's more people know about it.

Also, this is my first time seeing that fused Piccolo with hair. XD

I like the little podcast and forum images in the middle too.

I don't see a new banner. All I see is the same "Welcome to Daizenshuu EX" and the picture of Roshi, Tenshinhan, Bulma, Yamucha, and Piccolo.

I agree with ThunderPX; those little rounded curves on the heading look a little rough and a bit fuzzy too. And I don't like the idea of having obscure videogame characters in the banner. They won't be instantly recognizable to a newbie DB fan and don't represent Dragon Ball too well.

Other than that, it looks great. Love the idea of using #13 for the number of years.

Some of you folks are seeing changes that don't actually exist. No "rounded edges" are different from anything that's been there since 2003. Yes, some of it needs work, but I don't know that I can be bothered to put in the effort to the current design. You should know by now that we're all about content. Presentation comes second .

I always meant to do more changes in the top-right banner of characters over the last gazillion years. Since 2003's re-launch it's been... err... two in total. The recent podcast episode with the obscure game characters reminded me how awesome some of them were, so I figured I'd start 2011 with a few of them. I know they're not really representative of the franchise as a whole and might be a little confusing, but hey... it'll work for a little bit. It's one of those, "Fuck it, I feel like doing it!" things.

I've occasionally used the area between the site intro/mission (btw, toned down the font size, clipped a few words, and added in the DB line) and the news for contest promotions or something like that. Didn't do it all that often. Wanted to highlight a couple areas that are most significant to us, so I started it off with the podcast and community. I might cycle in some other stuff from time to time (music database, images, etc.).

Yeah, the year's been changed. Rach suggested a long while back that I should start using the jinzoningen (since the numbers in daizenshuu one stop at 12), so I was definitely planning on that for quite some time. I had actually worked for at least two hours off and on putting together the "1" and the "3" to try and make a "13" (complete with altering/matching colors, re-adding grain, fixing the alignment, etc.)... but I couldn't make it look right. Eventually I realized that the two numbers were put on a different perspective (the "1" turned to the side slightly one way, and the "3" to the other side), which is why they just didn't look right together no matter what I did. Finally decided to just go with a clean number from the kanzenban with #13 on top, which took me... oh... 30 seconds to make.

Other than that... well... there's the new podcast album art. Yep. It's amazing. Totally unsolicited from the most bestest graphic designer fan we have. I couldn't wait to toss it up somewhere, so I threw it up there replacing the old iPod art. What's funny is that I was in the process of swapping out those other things on the home page, and had finally updated from this to this:

Darn, that cover art makes the email I sent you, Mike, look totally awful in comparison (which I presume, it probably is). Wow, Karan beat me to the punch! Ah, well.

That said, I love the new album art and the website layout!

I just designed my own custom graphic to fill the entire square on my iPod touch. I did it for Daizenshuu EX and all the other podcasts I'm subscribed to that don't use regular square art. But I'll take the new one, it's much better than mine anyway.

Huh... you're right. Regardless, that's now going to bug me forever.
