English dub on the Dragon Boxes
I know that the Dragon Boxes are not being made for the dub fans, but I want to know why the dub sounds different (terrible) after Goku lands on Namek?

Re: English dub on the Dragon Boxes
After episode 67, it switches back to recordings of certain characters back from the first dub in 1999. I think the reasons for this were either they didn't want to or they felt it wasn't necessary to rerecord (which would of been the worst excuse).

Re: English dub on the Dragon Boxes
Yeah, that's nothing to do with the Dragon Boxes. That's just how the dub was back then... sucky. The first two seasons were redubbed several years later after they'd had more experience in order to replace the previous voice cast. So, ultimately, you're putting (more) experienced work right next to amateur work, and it's going to sound jarring. But then again, that's how it sounded back in '99 comparing the original voice work to the season three dub anyway, so at least that's still consistent.

Do you follow the most comprehensive and entertaining Dragon Ball analysis series on YouTube? If you do, you're smart and awesome and fairly attractive. If not, see what all the fuss is about without even having to leave Kanzenshuu:

Around what episode does the dub improve? Is it in the Garlic jr. saga?

Re: English dub on the Dragon Boxes
From episode 68 until 117 is where the dub on the Dragon Boxes is a little confusing as it mixes the original 1999 dub voice work with new voice work created for the season sets, and for some characters it goes on a little further. I might as well tell you who was redubbed for the season sets, but as to why Goku wasn't redubbed it's because Sean Schemmel chose not to redub after episode 67.Kakarotto wrote:I know that the Dragon Boxes are not being made for the dub fans, but I want to know why the dub sounds different (terrible) after Goku lands on Namek?
For Episodes 68-117:
Fully redubbed
-Kyle Hebert as Narrator & Ox King
-Chris Sabat as Vegeta, Burter, Korin & Mr. Popo
-Laura Bailey as Dende
-Brice Armstrong as Captain Ginyu (except for his screams which are still Dale Kelly's)
-John Burgmeier as Tenshinhan
-Brad Jackson as Oolong
-Bill Townsley as Guldo
-All of the Spice Boys
-Leah Clark as Marron
Partially redubbed
-Stephanie Nadolny as Gohan (68-halfway into 79)
-Sonny Strait as Krillin (68-94)
-Linda Young as Freeza (68-84)
-Chris Sabat as Kami (76 only)
-Mike McFarland as Master Roshi (88 only)
As for the rest of the series Kyle Hebert continues redubbing for the narrator until episode 194 while Ox King is redubbed for the remainder of the series, and there may be a few others that I'm not sure about, but I do know that any character that had a voice filter originally doesn't have one in the season set/Dragon Box dub.

That is a shame. He was easily the one who needed a redub the most.DB_Fan1991 wrote:but as to why Goku wasn't redubbed it's because Sean Schemmel chose not to redub after episode 67.

Re: English dub on the Dragon Boxes
As much as I love Sean's Goku I have to agree as his acting was very wooden in Season 3.Deimos wrote:That is a shame. He was easily the one who needed a redub the most.DB_Fan1991 wrote:but as to why Goku wasn't redubbed it's because Sean Schemmel chose not to redub after episode 67.

Re: English dub on the Dragon Boxes
Well, Majin Buu was redubbed. If you compare the season sets to the broadcast audio, you can notice a significant difference during the Vegetto fight and when Gohan arrives. I'd also say that the dub kinda improves based on certain performances, such as Cell and # 17.

Re: English dub on the Dragon Boxes
I think they just changed the pitch in Super Buu's voice, and took out some effects. Which I think is a bad thing, in the original dub when he said "Yes! Your going to pay for everything you did to me!" right before he blew up, there was an effect added which made him sound very demonic, the season sets took it out and kinda ruined the awesomeness of the scene.
Re: English dub on the Dragon Boxes
Ah yes, they took out a few sound effects with Imperfect Cell during his last bout with Piccolo and Vegeta's hair glow sound as well.
