In 1993/94 I was watching FUJI TV and saw DBZ, and the rest is history. Good times, good times.

Re: So, How Did YOU Get Into Dragon Ball?
Don't remember the exact when and how, but I think it was the same year the post-Cell episodes aired on Toonami. I'd tried watching DBZ at least once before (one of the Namek episodes) but just couldn't get into it at all. Then I picked up in interest in other anime and gave DBZ another shot when some episodes ran on the WB for a week or two, got hooked, started buying dub episodes on VHS, read the manga, etc. I was probably... 12? (I'm 22 now.) Definitely some time in middle school. For a while I was watching episodes in Spanish on Telemundo because I didn't get Cartoon Network at home... that got a bit frustrating because they always started the rerun cycle after Goku vs. Cell, and I was dying to see Gohan vs. Cell. Sad times.
I'm actually still not as familiar with the DB anime – only caught a handful of episodes on Toonami – but apparently I must have watched it somewhere else at some point, because my uncle recognized kid Goku and Kuririn on a DVD cover while we were shopping for other anime, and he claimed I made him watch DB with me. I have no recollection of doing so, and this incident was before I was really into DBZ. Hmm...

Either from the Spanish channel or the WB in the mid-late 90s.

Surprisingly, it wasn't Toonami. It was a show called "Cheez TV", which aired DBZ every morning at 7 o'clock (right before school). The rest is history.

I still remember here in the US that they play DBZ on KidsWB back in the 90's. I remember that they where playing the episode where Gohan and Bluma arrived on fake Planet Namke. I watch it since I was waiting for Men in Black: TAS to come on at the time.Perfect wrote:Either from the Spanish channel or the WB in the mid-late 90s.

Re: So, How Did YOU Get Into Dragon Ball?
I got into it when I was a little kid and... I thiiiiink it was Cartoon Network was replaying the same episodes over and over again. The ones where the Ocean Group dubbed up until Goku arrives on Namek. I was only moderately interested in that point but in highschool I discovered a role-playing chatroom. Here you role played your character and thus names were exclusive meaning only one person could use Goku, only one person could use Gene Starwind, and only one person could use Terry Bogard etc. I was given the Gohan character by some friends I'd made there and my interest skyrocketed as I researched Gohan.

Re: So, How Did YOU Get Into Dragon Ball?
I think the first time I ever watched Dragon Ball was as a kid growing up in Madrid. Early in the morning I'd wake up to catch the two episodes they would air daily. Then I moved to the States and caught the English dub. After Toonami and CN stopped airing it, I kinda lost interest but I started re-watching it about a year ago and got back into the swing of things :p

Turned on Cartoon Network. Saw Goku beating the sh*t out of Buu. Got into it after that.

This was back in 1998. I was 3. It was 9 o clock at night. Since we got the East Coast feed of CN and we live in the Pacific Time Zone, the midnight airing of DBZ is what my family watched. I was hooked. When I found the day airings (at like 2, but I was home schooled so it was OK), it became solid.

Re: So, How Did YOU Get Into Dragon Ball?
It was towards the end of 1993, my mom and dad were Christmas shopping and someone had HIGHLY recommended a show called Dragonball Z. So on Christmas, I went down stairs to find a booster box of Dragonball Z cards, 3 t-shirts, 3 action figures, a little collectors box that came with an action figure and the first DBZ VHS tape "Arrival", and a wallscroll. I have been hooked ever since

The Arrival VHS couldn't have come out before 1996 (probably into 1997). Just sayin'.

Re: So, How Did YOU Get Into Dragon Ball?
Well, that's fine and all... except that the DBZ TV series wasn't even debuted on American TV until 1996 (September, I think)... so while I don't want to get into a, "Nyah, nyah, told ya' so!" sort of pissing match...TheLegendary117 wrote:Once I start taking out my VHS tapes, Ill take a picture of the box and show you the date on the back

No, I won't be that guy to say that. I'll just show proof is all. No big deal.

Re: So, How Did YOU Get Into Dragon Ball?
I don't remember specifically, I just watched it on Cartoon Network since I was a kid and I've always been a big fan.
This will never not be my sig:

I can't believe this is on-topic.
Re: So, How Did YOU Get Into Dragon Ball?
Used to watch it early in the morning before school back in '96 (or '97?) when it was on WB and UPN. (Man, I watched those first 53 episodes so many times.) Then of course I followed it over to cartoon network.
Trans rights, now!
Re: So, How Did YOU Get Into Dragon Ball?
Where I live, we get reception from Mexican chanells so I'd watch it. They showed 2 new episodes of DBZ back in the mid-90's every day. Then after watching the entire series, I don't know why I stopped watching it.(Even though I constantly bought DB toys from Mexico) Then a few years later, they started showing it on Cartoon Network. That's when I started buying the videogames.

Amazon says 1999.
EDIT: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_B ... ected=true
FUNi didn't get the rights until 1995, and didn't air Z until September 13, 1996.
