Watch with parents/relatives

Post by Super Sonic » Sun Jan 09, 2011 12:33 am

You guys ever watch DB or any of its incarnations with your parents, or other relatives at any time? For myself, when it started on Cartoon Network, I watched with my dad after school and we did get a little tiffed when the first round of reruns started on that Ocean cliffhanger. Watched videos with him too up until around the Androids saga off and on. He cared more about seeing Frieza defeated and said he was ok with not seeing after that. How about you guys?

I watched it with one of my cousins when it was airing on Toonami, he never was shown the Japanese version and how bad the dub was. He kinda grew up thinking it was a kids show, obviously it is in "Japan" but not by US standars, at best it's rated TV-14.

The blue bricks are TV14, Z Kai was going to be originally, but was taken down to TVPG.

It's kinda weird, since on FUNi's website for the show lists the DVD/Blu-rays as TV-14, but the boxes themselves shows the rating at TV-PG.

Back in middle school and early high school (97-02), my Dad and I would enjoy watching DBZ on Toonami. Then once the Season Sets came out (2007-2008), we rewatched the vast majority of Z.

Good times...
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

They even listed part three as TV14... Which makes even less sense since they've been TVPG for quite some time.

Watched it with mumsy for about 5 minutes and then she got up and left. That's about it.

My brother sometimes watches DBZ on Cartoon Network after Naruto. I watch with him when I'm not busy, to explain things about the series etc. Yes, the dub. Sue us.

If they're gonna sue you, they might as well sue the entirety of people who watch the dub (I myself like to watch not only the English dub, but every other dub I can being that I like to compare).

My parents used to think it's a dumb kids cartoon...

until they saw the scene of Goku and Raditz being pierced, and Freeza stabbing Krillin

Now it's just a dumb cartoon

I watched the first episode of Dragon Ball with my Grandmother and she got bored of it.

I watched Gohan & the Robot with my mother once in Japanese.

It seems though that whenever my mother walks into the room when I am watching Dragon Ball its when Gohan is peeing and she always says to me "why do I always walk in when he is peeing."

My cousin used to watch it, and honestly, it was me watching it with him. I was the kind of kid who just wanted to watch Pokemon back then and didn't particularly like Dragon Ball. Though I did occasionally watch it after Pokemon stopped interesting me, it was usually because my cousin wanted to watch it. While they're not my relatives, my neighbors did watch a lot of it, and occasionally, they'd watch one of the movies and I'd sit down with them in front of their enormous TV set and join them. My parents don't exactly like anime because of run-ins with a few otaku at the local bookstores while I've been picking up volumes of One Piece. It's only happened twice, but my mom still thinks they're the strangest people ever, and my dad hates any kind of animation that's not Disney.

I don't remember actually watching with my dad. But it would definitely be a lot of fun since he loves action heroes.

Back in the Toonami days, when it was with the Ocean cast, me and my brother would watch all the time. We didn't miss a single episode. I remember we were both going crazy once we found out that the episodes are finally going to continue onwards and show the fight with Freeza since Funi picked it up after.

I remember one time my dad came into my room and saw me watch Dragon Ball Z. He said "Why are you watching this? This is for kids!" Then he saw Goku punch Jeice square in the face and then said "Why are you watching this? This is too violent for kids!"

No joke.

Alright there's quite a history with this.

Back in 2003, I would always come home to DragonBall and DragonBall Z. My mom would watch it with me, all the time. I would also record DragonBall GT, and would watch it with my mom and dad too. Then there were the DBZ movies, that would would watch on TV, whenever we looked at the guide. I remember watch the Trunks & Bardock specials, along with Lord Slug. I also remember catching DBZ on a Saturday, which was the first time I ever watched the Ocean Dub, and quite liked it. I also got to catch a glimpse of the Uncut dub, when my parents were around too. DBZ then went to Cartoon Network Fridays, at midnight, I started recording it, and would watch it with my dad, and one time with my cousin, which got him sucked in. We (me and my cousin) also watched some of the original DB, and some Ocean DBZ on Toonami Jetstream, and would catch Imperfect/Perfect Cell on Toonami, every Saturday. Now a days we watch the Season sets, Lord Slug, and DBZKai on Nicktoons. Then me and my sister started watching the Season sets, and she ended up watching all of Season 1. We now watch DBZKai, DBGT, and the movies. Finally me, my dad and my sister all watched DragonBall Evolution, and that's about all I can remember.

So yeah. Quite a history since good old, '03.

My Little Sister (15 years old) and I saw DBE on opeaning day, it was like only six people in the whole theather and the theather was small as hell. My younger sister likes the series and said that Trunks is her favorite character in the series.

I also forgot that my mom and her ex-boyfriend took me to see it first. LOL And it's not that bad.

And I just remembered, me and my sister watched some subbed DBox DBZ, and the first subbed episode of DBZKai.

it's worse for this one guy I know from my football team, DBE is the only way he's been exposed to Dragon Ball... I almost literally cried when he said that... May God and possibly Kami-sama bless his soul.
