Awesome work, Castor. It's nice to see the site continue to live on and I'm interested in seeing what other sites you plan to revive.

And the ironic thing about that statement about AOL is that they acquired Netscape, and then screwed it. But its great to bring these old sites back for people to see. (especially since I had only the most basic internet skills until 2005... hey I was 9 back then)Castor Troy wrote:Maybe I'll change that Netscape logo to firefox

I've heard of Netscape, but I don't think I ever used it. Back then I was never really computer savvy and just used whatever came with family PC.
Good to hear it's being hosted though; that place is like a combination museum/time machine. I wish someone could bring back Planet Namek in a similar fashion...

Re: Ginga Giri Giri Kai Hosts "Dragon Ball Z Uncensored"
Very nice, was a big fan of Vegeta Insane back in the day. But shouldn't this be updated and isn't it kind of pointless with all the latest FUNi releases? Or maybe just for nostalgia purposes...
And that actually reminds me of when I ran a site called Planet Vegeta before the DragonBoxs and Remastered/Uncut DVDs ever released and provided uncut DBZ media.

If only it continued to the end of DBZ.
But I guess with uncut bilingual DVDs, there'd really be no reason to do it now. People can see the difference between the Japanese and Englsih versions pretty easily now. The question is whether they choose to or not.

Re: Ginga Giri Giri Kai Hosts "Dragon Ball Z Uncensored"
DBZ Uncensored is a site that I can always go to not only for nostalgia, but to completely laugh my ass off reading Chris Psaros' comparisons and summaries. Chris was able to take something and still make it entertaining and relevant no matter how much time has passed.
I have all of the files for SkitzZero's DBZ: The 3rd season and dragonball.org (sent to me personally by himself) and can get Wuken's Suuschinchuu (from archive.org) if people want more nostalgia. However, my biggest problem with bringing back these dead sites is that aside from the nostalgia factor, a lot of the actual content is boring and irrelevant nowadays. Planet Namek really didn't have anything else going for it aside from the message board and front page.
I might do a DBZ web time capsule if I can recover more sites, but you'll come to realize the same thing I mentioned above.
DBZ Uncensored is ALWAYS entertaining and it's those types of sites that are worth bringing back.

Yeah I would actually love to revive any of my old DBZ sites. But the only ones I recall are Fusion Vegetto and Planet Vegeta. Made several others since 1996, just can't remember each and every site. Plus Iam sure Angelfire killed them by now
, the two I listed are the only ones that had their own server/domain I think, aside from my new one of course.

I second this, Planet Namek was a great site back in the day.

Re: Ginga Giri Giri Kai Hosts "Dragon Ball Z Uncensored"
Very interesting site. His complaints on the Season 3 dub and script were pretty hilarious. I even agree with him most of the time. The funniest post was on his opinion page. It was titled "A Black Day for DBZ". It consisted of how horrible the Season 3 dub was and made an announcement that it was so horrible that DBZ was now officially dead in the US. It comes to show that even replacement music, bad acting, and an inaccurate script couldn't hold DBZ back from success.
Thanks for sharing it.

I disagreed with him on some things. Like, he didn't like the English dubs Ocean did for the first three movies and he thought Sean Schemmel was an improvement from Peter Kelamis.

Re: Ginga Giri Giri Kai Hosts "Dragon Ball Z Uncensored"
I really like Parso's style of "if I listed every inaccuracy in the dub script I'd be here all day so let's just hit on the key points." There are more than a few uncensored websites where every.single.little.thing is mentioned even if it's something that happens in every episode all with irrationally fake enraged "ITS THE END OF THE ANIMES AS WE KNOW IT! I'M LITERALLY VOMMITING IRL ATM" commentary that gets old after about an episode. Not to say Paros's didn't have that to an extent but y'know it wasn't "I'm going to bring up every time an episode is missing the eye catches (regardless of the fact that's ALL of them) with sarcastic anime emoticons and unfunny angry commentary".
I disagree with him using the word "kawaii" unironically in one of his comparisons.

Re: Ginga Giri Giri Kai Hosts "Dragon Ball Z Uncensored"
Oh it's up there now? You mentioned wanting to host it earlier but I said I'd have AC up again. Guess it was taking too long.
Sorry for the delay getting it back up, my hostess Peaches at AC's had some problems with misc. stuff (too long to get into) and all the stuff should be back up soon. I'll still host DBZU and Yugioh U. I'll also finally update DBZU 2 again- go over old movie reviews and other stuff and redo them since most of the movie reviews before 5 since I wasn't happy with them.
Anyway, if you or any other site wants to host DBZU I have no objections since it is Psaros' work and I can't claim any ownership to it. You could even host YGO U if you wanted, since that site's closed. (mine's still going though) I would appreciate at least some small shout-out though for DBZU 2 since I have actively spent time and money hosting DBZU for the past 4-5 years. That'd seem fair.

When DBZU2 goes back up, I'll post a banner link on the top of DBZU. You can still mirror DBZU if you want since having 2 mirrors is better than one.GS7X7 wrote:Oh it's up there now? You mentioned wanting to host it earlier but I said I'd have AC up again. Guess it was taking too long.

YGOU... that's the one with the guy yelling at the dub for using official card names and translating stuff more accurately than the terrible fansubs he treated like gospel, right? Funny site.

Re: Ginga Giri Giri Kai Hosts "Dragon Ball Z Uncensored"
Will do, thanks! Between these two sites there should always be an active mirror up for DBZU now.
Hmmm.... this reminds me, quick history lesson. The last time DBZU was "taken off the air" (not counting any hosting difficulty lulls I've had) was when DBZOA went under.
It was like.... literally, maybe 6 months after I left the site and went off on my own, sometime in 06 or maybe 07. The speed with which the site collapsed after I left convinces me that I made the right decision in leaving it behind. When I left I remembered fussing and being disillusioned that the staff had stopped caring about Dbz or anime at all or "fighting the good fight" and that old staffers who didn't do anything or really care stayed on instead of searching for new blood to replace them, while the site became a vanity project. Originally Leia was in charge, then Illj had it for a few months when it was passed to him then SJR had it for a few months til whatever remained of the staff simply let Dbzoa die, along with their hosting of DBZU and did nothing to bring them back.
I was kind of mad they just let Dbzu die without warning, so I quickly took to hosting it within a week or so.
Of course, Dbzoa got DBZU originally in it's heyday with Azrael (JAPANESE SCHOOL TEACHER FTW!) at the helm. Around 02ish, when he left, was kind of when the rest of the staff stopped caring, but Psaros gave it to Dbzoa originally because, like he said, they still had that fire in his belly that'd pass. It's a shame other staffers at Dbzoa didn't search for replacements for "fire in their bellies" when theirs passed but, alas, can't change the past.
Anyway, thought I'd share the history of DBZU's hosting.
Interesting note- this is the "Uncensored" version of DBZU. At one point a guy who wrote an editorial on DBZU fussed about people e-mailing him and wanting his e-mail changed since people bugged him about his fansubs. Illy got really angry at me because I insisted Psaros do it- since part of Chris' stipulations was that nobody would touch or alter his site. Big fight, he claimed Chris wouldn't care, but when contacted Chris did care and said he wanted to do it.
Anyway, ultimately though Illy still insisted Chris couldn't be trusted with the password since he wasn't on the staff and he ultimately altered it himself. (chris did approve changing the kid's e-mail
The version of DBZU I hosted on my site was an old saved copy I'd made long before then- thus, the version here is the original uncensored version of the site. Dbzoa's was the censored version of....
anyway, enough useless information about the past. It was a really minor bit of censorship to the site but, it seemed fitting to talk about that given the site's nature.

I can't speak for YGO U or your criticisms since I never really watched YGO -dub or sub- to begin with but it is unfair to reference in passing only negative stuff about Kevin and JD's site. For instance, the interview analysis Kevin did of Eric Stuart was pretty priceless.Adamant wrote:YGOU... that's the one with the guy yelling at the dub for using official card names and translating stuff more accurately than the terrible fansubs he treated like gospel, right?
