Hell I could even make a DB comparison by pointing you in the direction of Curse of the Blood Rubies where Mike does an amazing job becoming serious with his Roshi voice. Meanwhile Sean's Kaio is ALWAYS doing this "WACKY WHOO-HOO-HEY WACKA WACKA" shtick even during serious scenes. As someone mentioned Kaio falling to the ground in despair in one of the latest Kai episodes was accompanied by Sean making a bunch of stupid inappropriate noises which oddly enough wasn't even something the director felt he needed to correct him on. That sort of thing makes me wonder if they still have this season 3 "this guy is just a big fat blue dickbutt who doesn't even fight, fuck em'" understanding of Kaio. So I do think the voice can be worked with but it feels like nobody wants to put effort into acting with it correctly.
I'm trying to remember Don Brown's portrayal... How did he do during serious scenes?

Par for the course when it comes to the acting in the Saban era dub that I've seen. Okay, but not anything to write home about in the slightest. That obviously hurts him in the long run because if you're going to be bold enough to use a voice like that you should probably have the acting abilities to go with it.

I'm trying to think of what name changes have taken place so far and all I could come up with was Kikoho into Tri-Beam, Tenshinhan into T.ien and Elder Namek into Guru. Is that accurate?

No. Not once have they referred to him as "Guru". It's consistently been "The Grand Elder".

Ah I must be confusing it with the Nicktoons broadcast then.

Nope, he's not referred to as Guru in the Nicktoons version either. Only the original DBZ dub.

The Nicktoons credits refer to him as "Grand Elder (Guru)". That is the extent of the usage of the word Guru in the Kai dub.

Like the others said, Grand Elder wasn't changed in the Kai dub. But adding that, Freeza into Friеza (yeah, technically a valid romanisation, but it's so obvious what it was meant to be that I count that as a change, though audio-wise it's pronounced the same), Kaiô to King Kai (not quite right even as a half-translation, because a half-translation of Kaiô would be "Kai King" and not "King Kai"), Enma/Yama to Yemma, and several other attacks which are almost good translations but not quite (Genki Dama into Spirit Bomb, Gyallic Hô into Gallic Gun (Hô is cannon, not gun), Taiyô-ken inconsistently referred to as "Solar Flare" by some characters but not others.

No, he's not. 砲 (Hô) means cannon. Specifically, a cannon.

Not that I necessarily have a problem with Galick Gun, but it isn't entirely an accurate translation. If it was Gun, it would be 銃 (Jū).

Well... Gatling gun is written ガトリング砲, or sometimes ガトリングガン, in Japanese. I'm not sure if the kanji 砲 is pronounced , or if it's pronounced like the English word gun. ...Not that the pronunciation changes anything.

Gallic Cannon sounds dumb to me.

I like Gallic Gun or Gallic Ho. Either is fine with me.

Well, it's not a matter of which one sounds better that's been brought up, it's what's correct. Personally? I prefer Gallic Gun for the most part, but if they'd translated it as Gallic Cannon, I would not have argued.

Jim Breen's dictionary lists 砲/hou as meaning "cannon; gun". Interestingly, the site for the upcoming game Ultimate Butoden calls the attack ギャリックガン/Gyarikku gan, using the English word "gun" rather than hou.

"Yemma" is apparantly mostly accurate, actually.
Yeah, it's really not that strange a romanization. All it does is add on a 'y' (like with en to "yen" or Ebisu to "Yebisu") and change the 'n' to an 'm' (like with the Mainichi Shimbun). Of course, some of the oni in the afterlife tournament filler have "Yama" written on their uniforms.
