Re: What's your favorite Dragon Ball movie, and why?
Either Movie 5 or Movie 13 to me. 13 had a great story and a different type of villain for once since we don't get that many gaint villains. I enjoy Movie 5 (Along with Movie 6) since the movie was tons of fun to watch and Coola (Cooler) was a great villain.
Movie 1, 6, 8, 9, and 12 come in pretty close on being my favorite DBZ movies. I don't think any of the DBZ movies where great movies critcaly speaking but I do think they are fun to watch. Comparing them to the work of Hayao Miyazaki or Satoshi Kon is a little hard to do, and silly at the same time.

Hmm... not sure. Maybe Z 13. With 12 being a close second.

The Return of Cooler. It had everything. A trip to another planet. Krillin gets pwn'd. Vegeta shows up from out of nowhere. The epic scene where after destroying one Cooler, hordes of them show up on the cliff. And to top it all off jumping fish. What's not to love?

Mightiest VS The Mightiest/Cooler's Revenge, because it's got a "chase film" feel to it and the Super Saiyan scene was amazing.

Oh yeah, that's right. Thanks. SA13 and Cooler were neck in neck with me, so I was thinking about them both whilst posting.Sun-Wukong wrote:Weren't the jumping fish were in Super Android 13?

Re: What's your favorite Dragon Ball movie, and why?
If I had a least favorite DBZ movie then it would likely be DBZ Movie 11 or Movie 7. Movie 7 had some good ideas but I feel like Super 13 was a dull villain even though his desgin was pretty cool looking. Bio-Broly was just another cash in on the character and it seem like Toei refused to let the character die for once.

Re: What's your favorite Dragon Ball movie, and why?
Hmmmmm, let's see:
Dragon Ball 10th Anniversary Movie: Brilliant Animation, great for introducing fans to the world of Dragon Ball, can be viewed as a stand-alone-movie, perfectly captures the magic of Dragon Ball and is overall just a darn, good movie.
DBZ Movies 1, 2, 3: Movie 1 has brilliant music and Movie 2 and 3 really feel like Dragon Ball Z adapted for the big screen. All three of these movies also feature splendid animation, a decent story and awesome fights with brilliant choreography, plus great climaxes.
DBZ Movie 5: Great Animation, Freeza's brother, epic choreography, Yajirobe!, Piccolo being awesome, Super Saiyan Goku and the list goes ooooooooonnnnn. Definitely one of my favourites.
DBZ Movie 6: Large cast of characters, Meta Cooler, Vegeta and Goku team-up, Vegeta getting owned, Vegeta being Vegeta, humour and action, Wired Cooler, awesome ending song.
DBZ Movie 8: Humour and action, villian has a back story, great transformation sequence, Goku in a suit, Kaio and Bubbles, Z Fighters get owned for 40mins, the final fight ends with a punch rather than a blast, large cast of characters, great build-up, decent running time.
DBZ Movie 12: Janemba, Superb Animation, Freeza returns, Gogeta, awesome ending song. I don't think I needed to explain this one.
DBZ Movie 13: Another one that really feels like DBZ adapted for the big screen, good character development, new characters have back stories, excellent, excellent animation, doesn't feel dragged out, plenty of characters, awesome ending song, feels and looks new, even though it came out 15 years ago.

Re: What's your favorite Dragon Ball movie, and why?
I don’t care for the Z movies at all with the exception of the beginnings to them so I hope my favorite original DB movie is okay. Without a doubt it’s The Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle. I’m a total monster nut so I loved seeing all the cool demon designs in that movie. I really loved that big red guy that used a ribbon as a weapon (isn’t he based off of a legend?) I desperately want a plushie of that little pink running gag demon as well. Then there’s Lucifer, my favorite villain next to Freeza in the entire series. He has some really cool attacks and I love his voice. The plot of that movie, everything about it is great. It’s quite literally the only DB/DBZ movie I can watch over and over. Also it was the debut of my favorite music track as if I didn't already have a plethora of reasons to love it.

Re: What's your favorite Dragon Ball movie, and why?
The Return of Cooler was very cool. It's hard for a movie to make you felt the battles are good.
Broly's movie was also a bit cool, or at least the concept behind it, the battles itself are a big disapointment

I love the original backing music and eng dub together in Super Android 13 & The Tree Of Might. I love these movies cause mostly everyone gets to fight!

Re: What's your favorite Dragon Ball movie, and why?
My favorite movie would have to be "the History of Trunks" special. The animation was spot on(like most DBZ movies), the action was strong while not taking away from the story(unlike most other DBZ movies), and it has the best of the best when it comes to Funimation's english voice actors. Speaking of the Funimation version, that was the version that got me into Dream Theater. Most of this site slams Funimation for it's old habit of not including the original music but without them replacing the score I wouldn't have found one of my favorite bands in the world, at least not as soon as I did anyway. Scenes From a Memory the album used for part of the movie is still my favorite album of all time. On top of those reasons, it also has great sentimental value as it was the first(of many) Dragonball purchase I made.

...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

If we're putting "specials" and "movies" in the same category then I'll definitely put Bardock and Trunks before DB movie 2. Those are so good I consider them to be canon.SparkyPantsMcGee wrote:My favorite movie would have to be "the History of Trunks" special.

It depends on what your definition of "canon" is I guess. There's a recent thread about that too so let's not get into some sort of bitchy fight about it here either. In fact let's not get into an argument about it anywhere for several reasons I won't list.Goku100xKamehameha wrote:They are canon.Turtle Marked Stone wrote:If we're putting "specials" and "movies" in the same category then I'll definitely put Bardock and Trunks before DB movie 2. A Mystical Great Adventure(DB movie 3).
One of my favorite opening animations for the series, cool re-imagining of the Red Ribbon and 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai arcs, awesome music, and more Tao Pai Pai.
And yeah, if we are counting the specials then mine would be A Final Solitary Battle. It is a really awesome original story with great art and I also consider it part of my personal canon(mainly because of those two manga panels).

Well if I could just chime in, Trunks' story is in the maga(the english viz volume 17...or vol.33). I believe Bardock's story is in one too, but I don't have the volume to prove it.Turtle Marked Stone wrote: It depends on what your definition of "canon" is I guess. Re: What's your favorite Dragon Ball movie, and why?
Yes I know what's in the manga which is why I'm talking about...y'know the specials. The Trunks story is very different from the one in the manga and Bardock had a single panel in the comic. Needless to say it's even more of a convoluted discussion about canon than normal which is why I didn't want to get drawn into some kind of debate about it and smudge up this dude's thread.SparkyPantsMcGee wrote:Well if I could just chime in, Trunks' story is in the maga(the english viz volume 17...or vol.33). Cool,I don't which is why I didn't at first. However if we are...well I just thought I'd let everybody know how much I enjoy them!

Bardock's special was (IIRC) not created by Toriyama. I was first aired as a TV special, not in the manga. Because it was so good, Toriyama later added the story into the manga.SparkyPantsMcGee wrote:Well if I could just chime in, Trunks' story is in the maga(the english viz volume 17...or vol.33).
