Conflict on whether to get DB or non-DB Signed?

Post by Super Sonic » Fri Jan 14, 2011 9:10 pm

Know a lot of guys here go to cons, and thought I'd ask, when meeting DB cast members, have any of you been conflicted to get DB stuff autographed, or other things autographed that they were in besides DB? For myself, I've had quite a few times when I wan't sure whether to bring DB dvds with me to get signed, or YYH, or other shows. And in the cases when meeting Ocean cast members, usually bring Gundam and Beast Wars. What about you guys?

If I was going to meet a DBZ cast member, I'd want them to sign a DBZ product, regardless of whatever else they were in. I respect their work outside of Dragon Ball, but chances are I enjoyed their performances much moreso in Dragon Ball.

So, for example, when meeting Kyle Herbet, I'd want him to sign a Gohan figure rather than Ryu.

Supposedly Steven Blum, known for Ken Masters, Spike Speigel, & Roger Smith, apparently voiced Goku in Dragon Ball GT Final Bout. I wonder if anyone's ever asked him to sign a copy and maybe do his Goku voice.

I have an old copy of "Babidi: Rivals" from the original FUNi singles run that I got signed by Ryo Horikawa.

I loves it, and the man was a really wonderful, sweet guy. meeting him was awesome.

I can't remember if I had my Kai DVD when I met Monica Rial, but then I had enough DVDs I wanted her to sign already, my Ouran DVDs and a Soul Eater DVD, seeing as I loved her performances in those more. (Yes, I was probably the odd one out in that I liked Renge.) So even if I had it by then, which I think I did, I think I decided not to bring it for signing. However, I did talk to her about her performance in Kai as Blooma and she was quite happy to find out that I had trouble recognising her at first, because of how well she was acting it out of her usual voice.

I also tend to go by the idea of actually getting signed stuff that they were in that I actually own. i.e. I didn't get Brad Swaile to sign in regards to Death Note on my Gundam Wing box set (and boy am I glad - I love my little signature he did for me, accompanied by a little doodle of Quatre saying "I heart Sandrock"), and I didn't get Wendy Powell to sign in regards to Envy, since I didn't actually have any FMA DVDs with Envy in for her to sign at that point. Funnily enough, I had one of the most obscure things for her to sign. Yuu Yuu Hakusho DVDs, in regards to her performance as Mukuro at the end of the series. Yeah, that was fun.

I went to a con back in 2002 or '03 (can't remember, it was the summer before the Great Saiyaman stuff started on CN) and got this bad boy signed by most of the main cast (Goku, Vegeta, Future Trunks, Teen Gohan, Cell, Chi-Chi, Roshi/Yajirobe/ #18, Majin Boo). Also got a whole mess of trading cards signed too but those are long gone now. It was a pretty fun experience and the DBZ voice actors are nice people, very fun to talk to for the short time that you get at cons. As I got older and was still into anime, I got to go to a green room party at a con in Nashville and got drunk with Colleen Clinkenbeard and Laura Bailey once. Good times.

Get something signed that will mean something to you. DVD covers are cool and all but definitely stop by the dealer's room and see if you can't get a mini poster or pencil board or something. Then you can frame it or put it in a plastic slipcover and display it somewhere cool with your collection.

I bought one of the Kanzenban at Otakon '08 almost entirely for the sole purpose of getting it signed by Kageyama Hironobu. Obviously Kageyama's done much more than simply Dragon Ball, as have the rest of JAM Project's members (they were the musical guests that year), but that's his one thing that holds dearest to me. Same as how I also got a Japanese volume of One Piece for Hiroshi Kitadani to sign.

As it happens, I did that with Monica Rial too. I saw some Soul Eater plushies in the dealer's room, a Black Star in particular and couldn't help but get them to get them signed by her.

Oh yeah.

I've also got Season One signed by Chris, the Broly Triple Feature signed by Vic Mignogna and one of the Buu arc singles with Kid Trunks signed by Laura Bailey. And some non-DB stuff, but you guys don't care about that.

Also, I met Travis Willingham, but I don't have anything with his Cell so I had him sign Mustang and Ace stuff instead. ... I also kinda told him about what has only just happened in the Japanese One Piece anime now.

That depends. I would say make them sign something related to the role you most remember them by. If I was to get something signed by Peter Kelamis, I would probably have him sign something related to Ed Edd n' Eddy rather than DBZ (I remember him better as Rolf). But if it was Ian Corlett or Sean Schemmel, I would probably get something DBZ related rather than something Beast Wars or Kappa Mikey (that's the only other thing I remember Sean by) related. If it was Steven Blum, I sure as hell would make him sign something Toonami, plus my Big O DVDs, but not Final Bout.

I'd bring a DBZ item, but I'm pretty sure it won't matter too much.

Yeah, it's my second most prized signed object. The first being the Pokémon season 1 booklet I got signed by Rica Matsumoto.

Something like that happened when my friend met most of the Tsubasa cast. They signed his Ikkaku plushie, and Vic Mignogna was really surprised to see that and gave him money to buy one for him.

With a few exceptions, I'm pretty much going to avoid getting the English dub cast to sign my DB stuff.

Now, if I could get Masako Nozawa's signature, that's different.

Hell, I would get Steve Simmons' signature before Chris Sabat's. He's done way more for DBZ.
