Why is Cell Games singles set impossible to find brand new?

Post by KKZ » Sun Jan 16, 2011 4:01 pm

I'm talking specifically about the Cell Games Starter Set that came with the first two volumes and a cardboard insert that you would replace with the rest of the DVDs as they came out. I believe it came out in 2004. I've been looking for a brand new sealed one for years, I've seen used ones but they always seem to be just be complete sets of the nine DVDs with the outer slipcase. I want the cardboard box filler too damn it! I had no trouble finding the Great Saiyaman one brand new so I can't fathom why I can't find the Cell Games one... If anyone happens to have this I would probably pay a ridiculous price for it. Even if it's used but has the filler box I'd probably settle for it! Once I have this I'll have every Region 1 DBZ release thus far (Still collecting the Dragon Boxes as well), and then I can move on to Dragon Ball and GT...

All of the singles were discontinued when the Season Sets came out.

The Cell Games releases were messed up to start with. The Edited Versions of the VHS tapes came out, the first 5 tapes, then they never finished. About a year later, the Uncut Versions were fully released making the Cell Games saga, the only saga to not have a completed Edited and Uncut Version on VHS. The only other 2 sagas that didn't have both versions were the Saiyan and Namek Sagas. The Cell Games DVD starter was just tough to find, people grabbed em when they had the chance. Collectors wanted the box sets of the sagas instead of the individual cases

And not only that, but the Cell Games episodes didn't even come out on DVD until 2004. IIRC, they never came out with the rest of the Cell saga episodes on VHS back in 2000 and didn't come out on VHS until 2003.

I've purchased numerous used sets from Amazon and they've all ended up being complete DVD sets with the outer slipcase. Amazon sellers would never get back to me so I would just buy them in blind faith, I'm not going to waste another $25... I want the outer slipcase, first two DVDs, and the cardboard filler box.

So they just neglected to make a lot of copies of it? That kind of reminds me of how ADV neglected to make a lot of copies of Aura Battler Dunbine Volumes 11 & 12, if you're familiar with that situation at all. I'm so glad I found Volume 11 for a decent price...

I've seen your collection, it's pretty damn sweet. You have so much stuff, I wouldn't be surprised if you had a second Cell Games set with the filler box lying around somewhere... I'd pay a great price if you did.

Yes, I actually have 3 of the filter boxes. After the ridiculous crap with the Cell Games VHS sets, I bought a few extra, assuming they would be worth something down the road. I have 2 sets of the Cell Games on DVD. Both of them with the filter box, one set has been watched and the other set in still sealed. I am a DBZ in the way of the show itself, my collection of VHS, DVD's, and Blu-Ray is crazy. Thank you by the way :D

I found this on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/Dragon-Ball-Z-Cell- ... dZViewItem It's not in completly new condition, but from the pics provided, it seems to be in pretty good condition. :) Iv'e recently began thinking about buying the individual Cell Games discs one by one over time, since I don't have a lot of money (preferably new). But the last 3 Dvd's of the saga are expensive as hell if you want them in new condition. I'd really rather not shell out $25-30 bucks for a single dvd.

i know what you mean. I watch over DBZ stuff on EBay like a HAWK and scored the boxed sets, brand new, of every saga from Androids to Kid Buu, on DVD, for $120 last spring. It was one hell of a find. the guy selling them just wanted to see them go to a good home and so he sold them to me for a really cheap price

I was actually trying to sell my Cell Games singles plus the art box last year when I was short on cash but of course Half Price Books wasn't going to give me jack crap for it.

The singles set I opened, the box is in pretty good condition I believe but I think one of the discs that came with it got scratched. I forget if I still have the insert but I think I may have kept it.

I also have several of the singles that fit into the box that are brand new and never been unsealed but it sounded like you weren't looking for those.

If you're interested in any of that let me know.
