While I do kind of prefer the Dragon Boxes' color palette (whether or not it accurately resembles the original broadcast), Kai objectively has the better footage. If the entire Z series could be remastered in this way, I'd toss my Dragon Boxes and snatch it up in a heartbeat.

I thought that it would be a retracing of the show, but I honestly don't think that the whole thing was done that way. In fact, I am almost certain it wasn't. It would be nice though, but then it wouldn't explain some mistakes (animation wise).
Yeah, you're talking about this blog post from ghostlightning. But based on your post, I'm gonna take a shot in the dark that you haven't really watched any of Kai, or for that matter, really followed it that much. If you had, I'd think it'd be pretty obvious that they definitely did not re-animate the whole thing. For the most part, only certain scenes and whatnot have been re-animated. Some episode consist of only about 1% re-animated footage, while other episodes have probably had anywhere upwards of 20%, but no episode has been entirely redone. (Yes, those numbers are straight from my ass, although they are based on my familiarity with the footage.) I'm not trying to sound like an ass, but I'd assume most people would notice just by watching an episode, so sorry if it sounds that way.

Anyway, more to the other topic at hand. I've been meaning to write up something on the animation process of Kai, but Herms hasn't really had the chance to translate the booklets. At some point, we'll get to it. Hopefully sooner than later.
Notice I said that I'm certain it wasn't done that way. I can pick out the scenes that were reanimated, I would never say that the entire thing is. And I've seen everything of Kai that FUNimation released so far, both the dub and the Japanese. That may not make a difference at this point, but what it does allude to is that I've seen those episodes at least twice each.

You mean like the treatment Toei Animation gave Fist of the North Star? :(

Well in terms of the color pallet in the Dragon Box footage is the pinkish skin tone and such.
Just something about it I like.

Though the Dragon Box footage does look gorgeous, it always seemed to have a slight tint towards green and red and less blue and yellow. I'm glad that was corrected for Kai. It's something I'd like to see in a DVD release of the original DB and the movies, too.
