I'll be fifteen in a few months. I started watching the show on the Midnight Run by Toonami (but we have Dish Network and it was three hours early 8) ) with my family probably around 1998. At two years old. So in terms of how early in life did I become a fan of the show, I'd be hard to beat. :P And I still remember when I was 5 and my aunt, uncle, and cousin, were over, and he was about 8, and he said he couldn't watch DBZ because his dad said it was too violent.

I'm fifteen at the moment, and I really got into the series through the manga for the most part. I think the video games might have had some role to play with it, consdering my neighbor used to invite me over once a week or so to play Budokai games, along with whatever else he had lying around. I used to check out a few volumes here and there from the local library, along with a few other series like Dr. Slump. Eventually, I started buying the volumes for myself at Borders, but then my interested just kind of peetered out one day. I didn't get back into it before finding this site and watching a little bit of Kai every week. It's just a good thing to know that there's a wondeful community like this somewhere on the internet, especially considering you all spell properly. ^_^

Whuuuuuuuut? I'm 15 (16 in less than a month) and I remember DBZ being on CN!

I'd call kids younger than 12-13 'younger fans', tbh

I didn't know there were so many younger fans on Daizex.

I'm not too old for this, am I? I'm 19...

I didn't "get into" Dragon Ball until I had ready access to cable television, but that only came about around the time of the Freeza arc's end on Toonami. I can vaguely, vaguely remember those weekends when I'd stay over my grandmother's (cable-equipped) house and I'd get all excited because there finally was a chance for me to watch a 'fast-paced, action-packed, high octane' series w/ not-yet-apparent-to-me mediocre animation and pacing uncannily similar to a snail's. Nine times out of ten, however, the same lame introduction episode of the Garlic Junior arc happened to be airing on those days. I can also vaguely, vaguely, vaguely recall seeing snippets of the chopped-up Movie 3 on Kids WB's Toonami block, but I didn't pay much attention to it.

What're you, 20-something? You still got a few years before you're "that old guy who watches the kid's cartoon."

DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:My brother use to watch Dragon Ball Z on TV3 and Cartoon Network. My parents however, didn't let me watch Dragon Ball Z till I turned 5. I was so excited and I kept asking my brother questions about the series. The first bits of material I saw were the first 4 Movies and the Two TV Specials. I distinctly remember sitting on the couch after football watching a taped version of 'Lord Slug'. :) Then Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT came on so I'd watch those whenever I could. Eventually Dragon Ball Z went off the air some time in 2005 and my interest began to die a little. In that time we got a copy of 'Budokai 2' which immediately revived my interest. Then one day a commercial came on announcing that 'Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z were returning by popular demand'. My interest was back in full swing, and I've been a fan ever since. I really wanted to see 'The Cell Games' again but my parents removed 'Sky' and hooked us up with a Broadband Connection. I ended up looking up DBZ and stumbled upon several of the movies I had never seen on Youtube. I also rented 'Fusion Reborn', 'Cooler's Revenge', 'Broly: Second Coming' and several others from our local video store. I became even more of a fan when my sister gave me 'DBZ: Movie 8' for my birthday and my brother borrowed the first orange brick from a friend. I began to collect Dragon Ball DVDs and Manga (I bought all of the Double Features apart from the 'Broly: Triple Feature'.) and to this day I'm still doing the exact same thing. I basically owe all of this to my brother although looking at the 'Show Off Your Dragon Ball Crap' motivated me to buy even more crap. :P

Anyone who just read all of this gets a reward. It certainly isn't the most interesting piece of writing on this forum.
I think it's cool that your brother helped spark the interest. I tried to get my younger brother into the series, but he doesn't really seem to care. He knows what it is and knows that I like it but he really doesn't care. Oh well; anyway where is my reward!?
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

Tell me about it. People in first grade when I was graduating college? WTF? I didn't realize there were people that young. I thought it was all just rumor and speculation.

In all seriousness, enjoying the stories. It's only somewhat relevant, but I was trolling game stores for deals while the wife was trying on clothes today, and while flipping through some case-less games, these two young boys came in and wanted to ask the manager a question -- how much was "that DBZ game" (pointing in the case at Legendary Super Warriors)...?

Had to remind myself that the mall cops would be called if I said, "HEY KIDS, DO YOU USE THE INTERNET?!"

I'm 14 and going to be 15 in 5 months and a 4 days. I actually already know about the existence of the Dragon Ball series, 9 years ago when I was 5, but never watch it because I though it's just the same as that stupid little cartoon called "Pokemon" (no offense to Pokemon fans.) and then 3 years later when I was 8, on a Sunday, I was changing the TV channel to find something interesting to watch and then I stopped changing it because I saw a guy with a really long blond hair with a lot of lighting around him. That's when I became a Dragon Ball fan. And then I bought the games (Ultimate Battle 22, Final Bout, etc.) and then the "Manga" (even though there aren't a lot of them.) and then the DVDs and then a lot more.

I'm 14 (although I have been told I look like I'm 16 and 18-19 by a guy at GameStop. I don't know if I should take that as a compliment or not.) I'll be 15 in February (I was born on a leap year and I'm 3 in Leap Years) So, I found out about Dragon Ball by randomly finding it back in 2002. My story may have changed from what I said in earlier posts, but I've remembered more! So, I was at my neighbors watching them play Budokai 2. I actually called "Say-an" "Sigh-an" at first and then they corrected me. Anyways, we watched one episode of Z and GT and they were awesome. So, I had my mom record a episode of it while I was at Baseball. It was the episode where Gohan shoots the Kamehame-Ha at Buu's egg. An episode of Dragon Ball got recorded where Goku defends Chi-Chi and Gyumao against some soldiers but I forget why. Anyways, it got me interested. Then I saw the Super Saiyan 3 episode and my friend and I didn't know why Kaio was yelling at Goku to stop transforming. So, I've been a fan ever since and I'm proud of it.

I mean, you're pretty open about looking at cartoon porn. Why would you do that? It's fiction. The proportions of these women are not possible to reach in reality.

Sorry. I actually thought your story was awesome too. Your sister would be considered a god if she went around "predicting the future." Her situation reminds me of when I was first learning of the show myself. I had a friend who use to bring in printed images of Goku during the Buu saga, GT and from the movies. He use to sharpie out the URL so people wouldn't know the sites(though this was 2000ish so I'm sure Daizex is a possible site). He'd read us stories about what the movies were about and all these cool things like Super Saiyan 3 and fusion. Keep in mind most kids my age at the time knew nothing past the Android saga. Hell I didn't know there was a Super Saiyan 2...let alone 3! Since I rarely used the computer at home(we had one and my mom used it for work) I depended on this kid(and Becket Magazine...oh god) for my insider source.

Your sister could be that totally awesome kid!

That reminds me of a situation at work. I was bagging groceries(yes living up to the cliche to pay my way through college) when I saw this kid playing a PSP in the check out lane next to me. I normally wouldn't have given it a second thought(kids play with DS', iPhones, and PSP's all the time) if it wasn't for the sound I heard in the proceeding seconds:

"Ka-Me-Ha...."

I must have had the dorkiest smile ever and when I finished bagging this random ladies stuff, I ran over to the kid and showed the him my DBZ wallet(20 year old with a DBZ wallet, nothing sexier). I told the kid he was the coolest five year old in that shops here. The kid looked confused and the mom had the nastiest look on her face but I was really happy to see a five year old playing Tag VS.

It was awesome!

When I was 8 my Mom bought me DBZ Movie 1 (Ocean) on VHS I thought it was a great movie I really liked the music and the the whole aspect of the villian being imortal. then my brothers got a copy of Movie 4 I thought it was cool didint like the music as much as Movie 1. Nothing happend after that until Christmas 2008 when my brother gave me a copy of SSW2 for NDS and lent me Seasons 1 to 4 of the Orange Bricks. the rest is as they say history. I found Daizex though Links on Twitter by users like Tanooki Kuriboh and Gozar and Daizexs old YT channel.

Um, the manga is pretty long as most series go. Not sure why you think there aren't a lot of them.

I meant the Indonesian version of the Manga. They're pretty hard to find, nowadays.

My dad saw an episode of the Buu saga during a buisness trip in early 2001 on the International channel, right in the middle of the Cell arc airing on CN. He's all like "there's gonna be more DBZ!", and I'm all like "how do you know? Ahh my brain hurts trying to figure it out!"
