OK, odd little story... I was actually raised to think "scum" was a bad word. This was because back when I was a little kid my Grandfather took me to Toys R Us and bought me a Ninja Turtle figure, his name was "Scum Bug". When my Mom saw his name she flipped out, I never understood why until I was about 16 or 17. It seems some people think it's a reference to semen or a used condom or something...? I'm still not 100% sure.PuppetDoctor wrote:What is the difference between saying "scum" and saying "worms" and for that matter what is with all the edits.
Edit: Oh, "scum bag" was once slang for used condom. I guess the name "Scum Bug" was a pun on that word. That's kinda funny.

I don't understand cutting the ki barrages, those are always the coolest moments...
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
No, it's just that the edits are getting worse. And like people said before, this might be so they don't have to edit it twice when it goes on Toonzai.MetroidJunkie wrote: WHOAH! Either that or they're censoring on purpose to get people to buy the bluray version. Either way, it sucks. If I was working in Nicktoons, I'd be insulted that Funimation's chopping it up as much as they are. Despite other Nicktoons cartoons showing the same kind of things that are being cut, I'll bet many people are blaming Nicktoons for it too. I shutter to think what will happen when Frieza gets chopped in half.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:No, it's just that the edits are getting worse. Really dude? Why get your nickers in a bunch?
Heck, the fact even with the edited dialogue, the voice acting is still superb and a lot of times I don't notice certain edits here and there.
It really goes into the fact most people here have seen the original DBZ to one degree or another, especially uncut.
And uhm, yeah? That easily could be it, and why not?
FUNimation does want people to buy the DVD/Blu-ray releases, so I don't see an overt problem.

Humans are naturally greedy. We'd want them to give as much as they're allowed, especially if they get away with initially. Besides, what about people with only access to the broadcast version and aren't swimming in cash? You shouldn't have to buy an expensive bluray just to get mentions of death which would easily make it on the Nicktoons network.

If you're able to afford extended cable, I don't think $30 will set you back very far. And if you're a kid, deal with it; you don't always get what you want.

How is the dub handling all of Freeza's transformation sequences? Does Freeza magically transform through the power of editting or have they left it untouched?

Someone needs to routinely post here to remind everyone that these edits are not as out-of-control as some seem to perceive them as. Remember that what you are looking at are highlights. All you're seeing is what is cut. You are not seeing what is left uncut. Which is on average probably 97%. And the edits are so quick you don't even notice them unless you're comparing side-by-side.
Also, of course Freeza's transformations are left as-is. There is nothing brutal or imitatable about transforming.

Agreed and as said, which I don't wanna feel overtly stupid for not noticing a lot of the "Flash-Cuts" but I usually don't as much.Innagadadavida wrote:Someone needs to routinely post here to remind everyone that these edits are not as out-of-control as some seem to perceive them as. Yea, I guess that's the whole point, not to make it too obvious, I guess they're doing a good job at it then. Back in the 1997 dub you really couldn't help but notice, at least now it seems to some what flow better....?Soul wrote:Agreed and as said, which I don't wanna feel overtly stupid for not noticing a lot of the "Flash-Cuts" but I usually don't as much.

So we should encourage them to over edit beyond what's required? Do you want them to continue this path until they're adding moans to corpses like CW4Kids? I'm sorry, but a line should be drawn. I'm more irked by them refusing to acknowledge death at all, considering they easily could by the network's standards. When the company doesn't meet standards, people will complain because they demand more from a company as established as Funimation. I don't know about you but I'm not going to just buckle and lower my standards just because Funimation has decided they're going to start getting lazy and edit happy.Innagadadavida wrote:If you're able to afford extended cable, I don't think $30 will set you back very far. Even if the flash hits are better than the Saban dub and the edits aren't so brutal, wasn't it comparable to the Toonami dub at some point? I want it to stay like that and, as I've stressed, it can easily be done if Funimation is willing to put in that little extra effort to give Nicktoons its own unique edits instead of dumbing it down to Toonzai's level.
Re: DragonBall Z Kai Cable TV Version (NickToons) Edits! *Ep
Where is this asinine assumption that their editing it to Toonzai's level coming from? That has yet to be proven in any way, shape or form. People are just complaining for the sake of it - oh, wait a second, I forgot where I was.

Nicktoons still has actual halos on dead people, not to mention ultra black Popo, so I'd say it's fine.
And hell, I wouldn't be too butt hurt if they edited it as much as Toonzai anyway, seeing as how I'm guaranteed to see the real thing on DVD whenever I want, anyhow.

O rly? XD In some of your comparisons (Like when Vegeta's line is changed to not going to die), you come off as strongly as I do. Are you not the one who just said the edits are getting worse?Tanooki Kuribo wrote:What are you talking about? The only person that seems to be really going crazy about this is MetroidJunkie. I doubt I come off as strong as you do. The line you're talking about, when they replaced the uncut line, "I'm not finished" and changed it for TV to "I'm not gonna die", I said:MetroidJunkie wrote:O rly? Yea! What the Hell is this all about?! It's not just a little strange, it's really fucking strange. I'm guessing this was a mistake? But how could that be? Oh well, I was surprised to see this [line] edited like this.
I still stand by that. That's a strange thing to do. I'm not going off on FUNimation or Nicktoons or whoever for editing. I'm saying that's crazy and that had to be a mistake and was surprised to see them add the word "die".
