It's a super easy way to make a character voice, right next to tossing on a random accent. Acting in both of those isn't easy but...therein lays the issue I suppose.

Well, that's just lazy, then. If you can't do a character-appropiate voice without sounding hoarse (unless the character in question is actually supposed to sound hoarse, like an old woman or something), then you're not very good at acting.

The biggest problem with them both, is that the actual original characters seemed to be lost in translation, aka Gokuu with no hic personality, Trunks with no excessive politeness to his peers.

The problem with the hick thing is that the level of hick that Goku really is would come off as a joke to most people. But, Kai's at least gone the right the way, so when Goku's excited, he sounds excited, and silly he sounds silly. When he's mad...he's mad. When he and Freeza are playing back and forth with cocky smiles, you can hear it in their voices.

As for Trunks, I don't want to judge before Kai's dub gets there.

I don't think anyone actually wants to hear Son speak like a stereotypical readneck. I don't think anyone wants to see him talk like "Ah Be a Proud Sai-yen warriuh what been born on that there earth I reck'on"

But we'd all (as in, those who want his original character intact) would like to see him speak with a less-than articulate manner in his voice.

Like, never let him say "Isn't", have every instance of that be "Aint". Never have him say "Going to", have him say "Gonna". "Want to" to "Wanna", etc.
Trunks, should talk just like Rock Lee from the Naruto Dub. He should be respectful of everyone and try to speak without using any slang.

Gohan's kinda the same way as Trunks. I think they didn't get it at first (had him say Mommy instead of Mother, and gonna instead of going to, et cetera), but I think they got better... I don't remember too well, but I know they had him say yes instead of yeah like they usually had him do.

Yes, Gokuh should talk like DemonRin explained. Chichi, the Ox Demon-King, and Yajirove should talk like likes hicks, though. Especially Yajirove. He needs to be a complete red-neck. But Funi's just too afraid of angering their reversioning fans. :(

Doesn't Gohan actually call Chi-Chi and Goku "Mommy" and "Daddy" up until the Freeza arc anyway? Then he just calls them "Mom" and "Dad", like a normal kid. I don't recall Gohan ever calling Chi-Chi "Mother", at least not in the original. Although I could be wrong...

I'm pretty sure in Japanese Gohan damn near always calls Gokuu "O-tou-san" and Chichi "O-kaa-san", i.e. pretty dern polite. Trunks, however, doesn't use the "O-" prefix, and just calls Vegeeta "Tou-san".

Oh, I was wrong then. I wasn't quite sure in the first place. I don't know why I thought the original had Gohan say "Mom"/"Dad" and the dub "Mother"/"Father". Maybe I was thinking of the Viz manga.

Want Mr. Vale to do his Yuki voice for Trunks I take it? Not sure if that would work.

He should just do Trunks justice, that's all; it's Trunks, for Kami's sake.

Thanks for the great find! Even with the replaced lines, I still enjoy seeing new Kai. Freeza's, sadly, running out of time, however.

I have to agree with this. Over the years, Vale's Trunks voice has been very inconsistent in the Video Games. I never minded the rasp in the Z Dub, but lately, it's just been getting too scratchy. Almost like he's trying to hard ti make sure to differentiate it from Sanji =/

On the third link at one point when Freeza was fighting Goku, Ayres did a "dadadadadadada!" that sounded almost identical to Nozawa...

And I'm loving Schemmel...but c'mon! Script wise, is it really too hard to throw in an "ain't" instead of "isn't"? Just little things in his speech like that...don't they know thats what we want? Would less hardcore fans even notice? Is Goku supposed to be a role model that couldn't possibly speak like that?

Man, I'm loving how the dub version of the Goku vs Freeza fight is turning out, particularly hearing Schemmel's Goku. I'm curious how the end of episode 52 will be handled, mainly if anything besides Frieza's blood will be edited.

Also, I have a request. Can anyone determine what Freeza is saying to Goku in episode 46 while they're fighting? It's at about 1:43 on the full episode on nicktoons. I hear filthy, then another word, then imbecile. What's that middle word?

I don't know whether I'll laugh or cry if they badly photoshop Freeza's legs back on.

They don't care. They're probably too scared of turning off dub fans who aren't used to his hick language.
