Orange Brick Box Art

Post by Jackal puFF » Sun Jan 30, 2011 5:37 am

I have a question about the art on season six and seven. Why are Goku and Piccolo on there? Gohan obviously should have been there instead. What made them put Piccolo on season 7? He didn't do squat. What does everyone else think about this? It just seems like a big what the fuck every time I look at them.

I don't see how it's false advertisement. It's not like the characters aren't in those sets.

I wouldn't accuse the manga of false advertisement for having Goku driving rally cars and such.

I dunno about false advertising but marketing yeah. Just the main dudes on every poster, wall scroll, *insert related merchandise* being thrown up there. Even people who don't watch Dragonball can probably recognize who Piccolo, Goku, Vegeta and Gohan are. They probably didn't put much thought into it and just wanted to toss a recognizable character on there real quick. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't know exactly what episode batch they were designing a cover for.

The Season set's were advertised to be remastered in 1080p(yea..f******* right) used the latest digital equipment saying they spent millions on the remaster. To be honest I could have remastered DBZ far better using Hollywood grade video editing equipment.

Even video post and transfer said if he had more time he could have done better which i think is true, FUNi wanted these to be pumped out like crazy. I they did give steven the correct amount of time and it stayed in 4:3(16X9 didn't bother me actually..) I think the season sets would have had much much much much better quality.

The remastering was horrible because of the time limits which explains the missing lines and might somewhat explain the bleached colors.

So all in all the season sets were falsely advertised.

Obviously it should have been SSJ2 Gohan on season 6. I'm not sure who could fit with season 7. But maybe Supreme Kai.

Probably Majin Buu (if he did appeared in one of those episodes...).

Except...we were talking about the covers to them? Nothing about the characters on the covers themselves are "false advertising".

Season 6 should have had SSJ2 pre-teen Gohan.

Season 7 should have had the Great Saiyaman.

I can deal with the Frieza era SSJ Goku on Season 6 since Goku did do a lot, but Piccolo on Season 7 is off. Piccolo is a popular character, but Gohan was pretty much the main character on both 6 & 7 while Piccolo didn't do much at all in Season 7.

Notice how the sets had a pattern with the box art.
Vegeta - Villain
Goku - Good
Freeza - Villain
Trunks - Good
Cell - Villain
SSJ Goku - Good

...And then the pattern breaks.
Piccolo - Good
Majin Vegeta - Good
Vegetto - Good

I think it should have been:
Dabura
Mystic Gohan
Kid Buu

Almost nothing makes any sense about the way Funi handled the orange bricks. Odd cover art choices are par for the course really.

I would say Majin Vegeta as being a villain.

my take.........

Vegeta
Goku
Freeza
Trunks
Piccolo
Cell
Saiyaman
Majin Vegeta
Super Buu

Insignificant covers for an insignificant release.

I honestly don't care much about the person on them since the entire thing looks cheap anyway, and... it's orange. But I can see your point and believe me, if it were up to me or you or anyone, that wouldn't happen. I'm sure that FUNimation was aware of this too, but they had their own reasons for putting the people they put on the covers.

And the marketing statement, I get it. But who's to say that it's a better marketing decision to put Piccolo on a cover instead of Super Saiyan 2 Gohan? Is Piccolo really more popular than Super Saiyan 2 Gohan? So marketing... yes, that's what it was, but just not smart marketing, or good marketing.

But hell, if the sales of these horrific sets led to their purchase of the Dragon Boxes, then means to an end guys, means to an end. Makes me proud to own them, just so I can say I contributed to the best release FUNimation has.

It's not a "wall of hatred" lol I barely said anything about the release itself. But you have to admit, the packaging itself is bad. I'm not even diving into the quality of it. I think the overall opinion is that it's one of the worst treatments... if not the worst treatment that the show has received.
