I'm sorry but I'm going to have to disagree with you guys about the performances of the cast on these new episodes. I n my opinion they are a million times better than its z counterpart. Plus coupled with the great pacing, I think the Trunks/Androids arc is quite excellent. If only the dub was like this when they were on Toonami...

I wasn't crazy with the scripting in various bits of Episode 54. As for voices, I liked Cold and Vale gave one line.

I thought everyone was great. Except for Bulma.

Side note: the scene where Trunks touches down is nowhere near as cool without the "Trunks Appears" song. And the SSJ transformation isn't as cool without Battle Point Unlimited.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Man it's weird bouncing from the original dub to Kai. I think Vale's voice variation for Trunks here is a huge improvement. If he's going to do that voice I'm at least glad he's putting this spin on it. I don't really mind the robotic filter on Mecha Freeza's voice when enraged.

Edit: Maybe it's constantly there just less so at certain points.

"You sir, are a consummate bluffer in the face of defeat!" is a magnificent line.

I am kind of disappointed that they going to keep playing Yeah break care break when kokoro no hane should be instead (hopefully the dubbed version will show up on the dvds).

What!? What is this?... (hope this isn't Chris's blood)

They kept "What's a Goku?", but not "Cat loves food! YEAH YEAH YEAH!!"? BLASPHEMY I SAY!

Actually, I thought Rial's performance was somehow even better than ever. Actually, Sabat's Vegeta sounds a bit off this episode, he sounds almost like he did in the Buu arc vocally (though his performance is still better).

Also, Kind Cold kinda sounds like his actor was pitched down digitally slightly, unless he can make his voice naturally sound like that.

I think she was especially good. Not painful to listen to the way Tiffany Vollmer was. She's as good as Hiromi Tsuru at times, in fact. Particularly when she's talking to Vegeta as he's gotten out of the shower.

I do not like King Cold's new voice at all.

I always loved the line delivered by Sean Schemmel when he says to Freeza "YOU FOOL!"

Also, this is nitpicky, but I'm a tad perplexed: what the hell was up with Sabat voicing the guy on Cold's ship asking for permission to land? He was nearly using his Vegeta voice outright, and I thought it was Vegeta at first... It doesn't help that it cuts to Vegeta talking right afterward.

Ugh. I hated that damned filter on Freeza's voice. And after FUNi had done such a magnificent job with Freeza up to this point, they have to go and screw something up in his last appearance.

As for Vale's Trunks voice, I was very disappointed. He was way over doing the rasp at times. A big problem in my book. It's fine when he's yelling, but not his natural speech.

As for Cold. It started out a little rough, but slowly settled in. I like it.

It's FUNi & Dragon Ball something's going to get screwed up. What do you expect?

Has anyone considered that the filter may have been added for censorship? Its one thing to slice and destroy a living breathing thing, but a robot... That's not as bad. I dunno. It's just a thought. Maybe the home release won't have a filter, who knows?

I don't mind the filter. I mind that it seems to cut in and out.

I really do not like Eric Vale's Trunks'. The rasp is just very over the top and doesn't sound natural at all.

The Freeza voice filter was just plain terrible also. I also missed seeing Freeza sliced and diced (but that is understandable since its the TV broadcast version but I still missed it).

King Cold got better I guess as it went along but I was still not a fan of his voice.

I noticed something quite interesting in episode 51. Just after Freeza figured out Gohan's plan to stall for time and stops him Gohan delivers the following line "You... killed my Dad... And Krillin too... And the others... Because of you, they're gone!" I'm sure you guys can see the anomaly in that line. That's pretty interesting. Perhaps this could show a lightening of the censors? Or perhaps just a simple mixing mistake. But for them to miss such an obvious reference to death, especially KILLED is... interesting, to say the least.

I'm watching 54 now, and Loving everything I've seen so far.

But... I know it's not gonna be on the Blu-rays, but I'm lolling at all the euphamisms they're using for bringing the characters back to life to tiptoe around the whole "They were really dead" thing.

Ok, usually I'm not big on ad-libs, but I just saw something I think is an Ad-lib that made me lol very hard and I honestly like it.

"That Woman... She's vulgar, and quite possibly color-blind, but..."

I like that a lot for some reason.

I found that line amusing too, and I kept wanting to point out to Vegeta (or more to Ryo Horikawa) that it wasn't his first time in pink:

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f234/ ... D20-24.jpg

But, possible references aside, I've loved being able to see these episodes again with the better dub. Finishing Goku vs Freeza was excellent on both Schemmel's and Ayres' ends. New King Cold wasn't a surprise, but it does sound different. Not bad, though, a lot more serious sounding.

As for Trunks, he does sound different to me, though I can't quite place it off the top of my head.

I'm a little concerned that the script writers are getting "creative" again. Stick to the Japanese script as much as possible, guys. I don't need what you think is funny and amusing in the script. It's not your job.
