I might just do that. I have a friend with the entire Dragon Ball / Z / GT animé. I guess he could lend it me. I've heard there's a lot of fillers - would be interesting to see exactly where these fillers are and how they fit into the story. Thanks!

Kai is far more faithfull to the manga but there were some great filler scenes in DBZ. There where some bad one too though :?
Most people consider the Garlic Jr. arc "bad filler", but I think if you're a fan of Kuririn it's enjoyable because it gives him more time to shine.
I love the Garlic Jr. Saga. The first Goku-less arc, and gives Piccolo and Krillin time to shine.

To be honest, Kuririn was one of the most heroic of all the characters. He stood his ground even though he was afraid, and most of the time had no chance of winning against his opponents. He may not have been cool in the "RAWR I'm overflowing with power" and kicking guys around like soccer balls kind of way, but he was a loyal friend and a true hero. It doesn't get much cooler than that.
THIS! Exactly! No power ups, no special heritage, a normal flesh and blood human being, yet he still managed to stick around almost everytime. I hate how people always catagorised him as a coward and a useless nobody. He knew his limits but had no problem of going against far stronger opponents if needed. He stood up to Freeza! He stood up to Cell!
He's more open about his fear, yes, but that just makes all the more impressive when he goes up against fighters that are like a million levels above him.
Vegeta, in the Freeza Saga, didn't do that!

It's backed up by the characters in the Cell Arc at least, that he's nothing on several occasions...

But he didn't help his friends, when they faced #17 & #18(although, if he did he would've died like in Trunks' timeline).

He was still way weaker than all he people that were after him. I don't even see that as a power up. We only see him gaining some extra speed. He doesen't actually gain any significant advantage.

He is nothing in terms of power. I don't deny that! It's his personality I'm complementing.

Krillin usually let's the stronger ones handle things when they are around, he only steps up when and if there is no one left, and persoanlly I don't blame him. If the androids showed any sign that they wanted to, say, execute one of them, he would've stepped up and done something, I'm positive of that.

Since you already read the manga any incarnation of it would be a good recommendation. But, how about you watch the movies? They are like micro versions of story arcs...animated.

Lending is a bad idea at all. That way I've lost my favourite volume of the manga that I haven't been able to replace for 4 years! (Not to mention broken Utena DVD, torn Harry Potter 5, lost vintage magazines, 18 Star Wars comics, crystal jewellery from Prague and costume of Little My). That's the best way to lose stuff and buddies.

If you want to watch DB Z/KAI I would recommend Kai and later supplement it with parts of Z. I used to watch every episode when DBZ was aired, but now I.Can't.Watch.More.Than.Five.Minutes. My hand automatically goes to fast-forward button.

And little advice: before watching DBZ movies or live-action (everyone will advise you against that, but you will see it anyway:P) complete special glasses. If you are adult and lonely the basic version is a bottle of your favourite alcohol for every eye. If not, they can be replaced by good buddied in proportion 1:1.

And final one. Don't.Ever.Read.Fanfics.Rated.As.M

Probably the best advice ever.

Anyway, Aether, welcome to the fanbase, and I would suggest watching the anime, in this order: DB- DBZ- DBGT- Movies- Kai.

That's probably true. The first result you get after googling "のことか" is the quote itself. :P

And it's the second suggestion who get, when you typed "クリリン" on Google Japan.

First response I get when typing in "Are you talking about..." into English Google.

My recommendation is any Japanese viewing should use the original anime (aka, DB, DBZ, DBGT), but if you ever do want to give the dub a shot, Kai is recommended, as it's a much higher quality dub.

Other than that, welcome to the forum, and glad to see another fan join our collective ranks (resists urge to make Borg reference).

Been doing the same thing with my girlfriend *snip*
LOLis. I'm doing the same with my boyfriend.

What I find interesting is that he also thinks Krillin is cool. It was his favorite character until Piccoro appeared... now I'm wondering if he'll also start liking Vegeta >_< [we're watching the Freezer arc] And he's also wondering who the blond people are >_<

I think you should watch the anime, but ALL of it. From the beginning. You liked the series enough to join the forum, watching the anime will only give you more points to discuss in the future. If anything, it'll make you appreciate the manga that much more ^_^
