True, i just always "liked"/found amusing all those inconsistencies. This is kinda unrelated but i mean, come on, the explanation for Vegeta's dub voice being the actor's real voice is priceless "We thought Vegeta wouldn't be around all that long", and then we get the double change during the cell arc
Puto wrote:Apparently we are getting "Kami"; Muten-Rōshi flat out said "Kami-sama" in vol. 2 (according to omegalucas, anyway). I'd prefer if they were to translate it properly to God though :S
Still, it's better than dancing around it with "Almighty"/"Todo Poderoso" like in the dub.
*Opens volume 2...sees page 22...stares blankly at page...pokes eyes out* Nope, I can't see "Kami-sama" anywhere... Seriously, though, (i need to stop reading it at work) yeah, it's there. Totally must've self-corrected it in my brain at the time.... Kinda ticked off, not sure if i would prefer "Todo Poderoso" for this specific line and just have Karin and Goku refer to him as God later on like i think they did in the dub (i think that's the part i was thinking of)
Puto wrote:We did get the Kame Hame Ha properly in most of Z. It's in DB that they gave it a new name every time. In Z, I think the only time they called it by a wrong name was during the Cell arc with "Luz Infinita."
And calling other attacks by the Kame Hame Ha's name outside of the movies/specials is restricted to Masenkō, iirc. Which is a mistake that was actually made in the Japanese version at one point, too.

Of course, there's always that DBGT Final Bout ad with the Kamayakama waves... XD
Right, i totally got it switched up. I believe we also got "Técnica pulverizadora da luz" or something like that and "Onda destruidora" at some point. Kinda sad that they never worked in a "Onda destruidora da tartaruga" lol. With all the diferent names, at least one should've been the original name fully translated
It happened mostly in the saiyan arc though, right? And was the switch with Kaioken in the series as well? I can't remember if it was just that vision from Bardock, or the actual tv series as well.

That was probably the best video game "review"(?) ever though! XD Top Games 98. Pedro Miguel Ramos (with blue hair at the time, no less) talking about a game based on the work of Akira "TAYAMA" and how players could pull off moves from the show like the "Kamayakama" and "METRA SMASH" in this classic "Bet'em up" (<-any of you know that genre?lol)....Oh, dear Kami XD LOL

Kami will probably be referred to as God and Kami, kind of like Tartaruga Genial/Muten Roshi.

Yeah, and i guess it's probably one of most minor of changes that could be made (that isn't even a change, it's just a "non-translation"....a straight up romanization, in fact lol)

EDIT: Thanks for the tip on the volume 2 trade-in. I also read that blog post, and it seems like other people have already gotten their fixed volume 2. About to send an email asking what they can do :D

Oh, that certainly changes things. Well, I guess only time will tell.

Yeah, i guess you could say we basically had a Big Green dub, without the actual Big Green  (which was named Satan instead lol)

And about "Son Goku"/"Goku": in the first (maybe the second too) they refer to him mostly as "Son Goku", but starting with the 3rd volume "Goku" is seen the most.

Yes, it is. Muten Roshi refers to him as Kami-sama.

And what you said about Goku is true.

Ah, so the Portuguese dub was based on the French dub. Be grateful you didn't get "Satan Little Heart" ("Satan Petit Coeur"). :P

We... did :E

He is called Coraçãozinho de Satan (Satan's Little Heart), but most of the time it's shortened to just Satan.

Which is why I (and others) fear for the names of Piccolo and Mr. Satan in this release.

Sorry about that lol. I was so surprised that i missed that line the first time around that i kinda wanted to pretend it wasn't there
Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Ah, so the Portuguese dub was based on the French dub. Be grateful you didn't get "Satan Little Heart" ("Satan Petit Coeur"). :P
Oh, we got all that good stuff lol. Satan's Little Heart (mostly refered as Satan, except for Gohan calling him "Little Heart"), Hercule, magic stick, magic cloud, Crystal Balls, all that crap
Other miscellaneous stuff include a craptacular Vegeta voice for almost the entire Cell saga lol

Puto, i'm hoping your memory can dig this up, but did we get "Bula" or Bra? And did we get Vegetto? 'Cus i keep thinking of Vegeku :?
rereboy wrote:Which is why I (and others) fear for the names of Piccolo and Mr. Satan in this release.
Yeeah, they kinda seem to be hinting at that stuff. I'm scared. (that they might wanna do decent here to go all out and clean up their act with a Kanzenban release in, say....10 years? Sounds about right, don't it? )

On a side note, still no reply from Leya about a fixed volume 2. Not really expecting much development on that during the weekend either.
And no volume 6 to be seen on shelves, despite being already available on mediabooks (no longer on pre-order only)

That always felt awkward for whatever reason, even as a kid. Don't know if i can give them too much crap about it. They never had a real way to adapt Kakarotto or even Kakarot.

I only recently put 2 and 2 together about his saiyan name being Kakarotto and Vegeta always calling him "Cachalote", which...well...don't type that into google translation. It's a whale of sorts. But it never made any sense for him to give such a corny nickname until starting to learn about the original version (which only made me fall in love with the show all over again, to be honest)

Wow...that's...yeah lol. Thanks though, i would've never rememebered that.

Volume 6 is already out in stores! Yay :D

That Shenlong's already looking pretty good on the spine...taking away the whole "adjusting the placement of vol.2" thing lol

The fixed version of the volume 2 will eventually make its way into the shelfs at the stores

Seems you're absolutely right. It actually seems like it already (kinda) has lol.
I finally got an email back from Leya's costumer service and they said i can get it replaced in one of two ways. I can either go directly to one of two physical stores associated to them:
- Livraria Noticias – Rossio 11 e 23
- Liv. Barata - Av. Roma, 11

Or mail it directly to them, with the emails and personal information to:
Serviço de Apoio ao Cliente
Rua Cidade de Córdova, nº2
2610-038 Alfragide - Portugal

I'm probably gonna hop by Av.Roma tomorrow after work, since i take the subway regardless lol

EDIT: After a 5 minute show-and-tell with the clerk to show here what the deal with volume 2 was, she checked and it seems like they only ever had the shorter volume 2 at that store, at least. So no use going to check on Barata.

On a diferent, but very relevant note, i had tossed a side comment at the end to the email i sent about how i was slightly concerned about proper translations and how it would be so great to have it as close to the original as possible since i've been really enjoying the release. You know, telling the full truth, but kinda going around it a little lol. The response i got was very interesting (in a good way) and i'm sure will be interesting for all of us following the release.
BD Editor wrote:Caro Leitor,

"Blah bidi blah"
Editora BD
Basically she explained that the reason Viz Media is mentioned on this release is NOT because that's the version they're adapting from, but due to the fact that Edições ASA aquired the rights to distribute the Dragon Ball manga in Portugal through Viz Media. She also stated that the version that they are using is indeed the original Japanese version, as published by Shueisha.

To which i simply replied with apreciating the response and enlightenment on the matter, and my desire to see this release continue.

....Piccolo and Mr.Satan, how i long to see your names in a portuguese manga release at last :D

So, I got Volume 6.

ImageImageImage

My thoughts:

Almost everything is right, except a few details:

- They messed up again in the placement of two lines. They mixed up their placement (instead of being Ninja Murasaki who states "you're going to die!", its Goku who says it, leaving Ninja Murasaki to state the line that belonged to Goku). Fortunately its not very bad and not very distracting and it only happened once.

- Also, in the introduction of the characters on the beginning of the book, they named General White as Krillin, which is a obvious mistake. I almost didn't notice this mistake because I really don't care about the introduction of the characters and neither should you,. So, to me, this mistake is almost irrelevant.

- Everything else is great. The translation, the names used, the paper, the lack of censorship, the cover has no mistakes, the printing is awesome, etc.

- There may be one title page missing, but I'm not sure if that particular title page was released on the Taukonbon edition, so I'm reluctant to call it a flaw. Its this title page: http://www.kanzentai.com/chp.php?id=066

Overall, it continues to be a great release with a minor glitch or two.

Btw, mediabooks has already revealed the cover for Volume 7:

You guys were talking about the possible translation from ASA for Piccolo and Mr.Satan, i own all 42 volumes released by Planeta DeAgostini, they used for Mr. Satan (Mr.Satã) and for Piccolo (Coraçãozinho).
You also talk about, in some older posts, that the translation from Planeta DeAgostini was poor compared to ASA's, but i don't think that way, in some aspects it's even better.
I'm thinking doing a comparison between the 2 editions and post the differences in this topic. What you guys think of that?
