Yikes, when I started reading this, I didn't expect it to devolve into a "which is better" discussion.

Wasn't it obvious? Mention Star Wars and Star Trek or Lord of the Rings and Game of the Thrones or western cartoons and anime or apples and oranges in one sentence, make a bag of popcorn (on frying pan, not this microwave invention) and enjoy nice sparring.

If Bulma is a virgin by the time she hooked up with Vegeta, then I'll eat my own Trunks...Eire wrote:Plus action moved quicker than drunken snail. And it has some good female characters that didn't finish as a "virgins for warriors".
And movie based on the series was worse than DB:Evolution.
And Last Airbender was definitely better than D-Ball Evo.

But yea, I don't think she was a virgin before Vegeta either.

Re: Clash of the Nicktoons - DragonBall Z Kai vs. Avatar
The question is if Vegeta was virgin before Bulma. Therefore the statement wasd in inverted commas.
In DB:E nobody died becouse of washing hair. And people not familiar with DB was thinking rather "it's horrible" than "what's the****"?

Re: Clash of the Nicktoons - DragonBall Z Kai vs. Avatar
I think he was, people tend to prtray Vegeta as a sex-happy guy who made the first move in his relationship with Bulma, but I dont think o.For example when Bulma told him he can stay at her place if he doesnt try anthing funny ,he was taken aback and said "What a vulgar woman" Wich ,to me,sounds like he wasnt into these kinda things.Eire wrote:The question is if Vegeta was virgin before Bulma.
On Topic :
While I think Avatar is the better show,I equally enjoy both of them And I think there is no real point in making them "clash" other than make a lot of money and raising a new generation of fans that love their show and their show alone and hate on all the others.

Not that I'm defending DBE, BUT the last airbender movie DID just win the Razzie for worst movie of 2010...I don't remember DBE winning that award.batistabus wrote:If Bulma is a virgin by the time she hooked up with Vegeta, then I'll eat my own Trunks...Eire wrote:Plus action moved quicker than drunken snail. 5 in total. People in their forum has already started wondering why so few. I must admit that the competition was hard. Beat Twilight in that aspect- congrats Shyamalanthe last airbender movie DID just win the Razzie for worst movie of 2010

Re: Clash of the Nicktoons - DragonBall Z Kai vs. Avatar
Well, really it is, though. Kai is trying to be modern using 20 year old footage. In that regard Avatar wins.LeprikanGT wrote:Kai for the Win. It wasn't trying to be something its not.
I'm actually not sure what you're talking about, though. If you're saying Avatar is trying to be anime, I'd have to tell you that you're wrong. Avatar has an art style inspired by FLCL, and fictional cultures inspired by Eastern culture. But it is very much its own entity. The storytelling and characterization is very much rooted in Western culture. Furthermore, it's perfectly fine for an American cartoon to take inspiration from anime. Just like its perfectly fine for anime to take inspiration from American animation. Would you say that Big O tries to be something its not? It has an Western art style and is set in the United States. There are numerous other anime titles that take inspiration from Western animation. I'd recommend you check out Avatar. It's a good American cartoon. It's not a good anime ripoff though. It has heart. You get the sense that it was made by people who really cared about telling a good story, and its not just a cheap cash-in on what is popular.
And as far as The Last Airbender vs. Dragonball Evolution. Dragonball Evolution was better. It has a sense of camp. You can tell that the people who made it did not take it seriously. While that may be offensive to long-time fans, it is vastly preferable to the soulless M. Night vanity project that is Airbender.

Tell it to Tezuka, WMT's creators or maybe those who dared to make co-productions.Kai for the Win. It wasn't trying to be something its not.
I've always wondered why people try to make Avatar anime. Is it a kind of nobility? Or they try to make it equal to stupid ecchi that are made by Orwell's writing machines?

Dude, I can't even understand what you're saying. Your posts are worded so strangely. And didn't you just criticize the thread posters for comparing the two shows? Now you're taking part in it.Eire wrote:I've always wondered why people try to make Avatar anime. Is it a kind of nobility? Dudette.
I'm not comparing anything (only listed aspects that were developed better in ATLA). I'm just wondering- people talking about Avatar usually try to tie it with anime. Not to look for inspirations or whatever, but to prove that it's anime rip-off or anime itself.

Razzies tend to win for movies that were promoted heavily by their studios, whether they flopped or not. And The Last Airbender was no flop. It made more money than most of us here will ever see in our lifetime.LeprikanGT wrote:Not that I'm defending DBE, BUT the last airbender movie DID just win the Razzie for worst movie of 2010...I don't remember DBE winning that award.batistabus wrote:If Bulma is a virgin by the time she hooked up with Vegeta, then I'll eat my own Trunks...Eire wrote:Plus action moved quicker than drunken snail. Re: Clash of the Nicktoons - DragonBall Z Kai vs. Avatar
I'd totally say Dragon Ball is the better series. The main problem I have with Avatar is that it was Nickelodeon trying to make something that was as close to DBZ and other popular anime as possible without obviously being a noticeable copy. The Concept of Bending? It's as close as you could get to the ki fights that DBZ (and other manga/anime) is famous for without people saying "Op, seen it before." They travel in a flying bison. I could go on. Now, Nick has the rights to Kai. It's kinda ironic. Though I kinda feel they're missing a big opportunity since they aren't airing Kai on their primary channel (unless their contract doesn't allow it).
"Perfect" is the enemy of the good. True for Cell and true for real life.
Don't forget to slow down and enjoy yourself.

Re: Clash of the Nicktoons - DragonBall Z Kai vs. Avatar
You realize that most of these concepts are very fundamental symbols and myths that predate either series, right? Dragon Ball didn't invent chi manipulation or flying animals/vehicles.metamoss wrote:I'd totally say Dragon Ball is the better series. Anyway, apart from both being martial arts-focused and being promoted by Nickeloden, I'm not sure the two series even warrant comparison. They're just not that similar. They're from different eras and different cultures, subject to different standards, produced under very different philosophies, etc, and it really shows.
I can see comparing Dragon Ball to something like YuYu Hakusho, I suppose. Or Avatar to ... hell, what's another serialized western action cartoon from the last decade? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I guess. But it's apples and oranges to put them against each other.

Re: Clash of the Nicktoons - DragonBall Z Kai vs. Avatar
This is just a fun, which show do the kids love more marathon contest. It's not fair to compare the two shows. We are talking about a 20 year gap along side completely different culture viewpoints. They are both great shows that warrant praise and tremendous respect but comparing the two is like comparing windows 98 with a Droid phone.

Re: Clash of the Nicktoons - DragonBall Z Kai vs. Avatar
Dragonball Evolution wasn't high profile enough to win a Razzie. They love to take shots at more well known movies.... I mean, Indiana Jones 4 won worst movie awards there, and considering some of the junk that came out in 2008, it didn't come close to deserving that, no matter what your opinion of it was.
That's not me saying either The Last Airbender or Evolution was better. Truth be told, I haven't seen either.

Anyone noticed that the "Trash Talk Now" image link for Kai has a really crappy photoshoped picture of Goku?
