Wow, who knew such a nice meant thread would turn into something so nasty and negative.

We all have our comforts, preconceptions, likes, dislikes, preferences, experiences, knowledge, education, and so on and so forth. Is that "bias"...? No, it's "being a living human being".
Is this website and forum "biased" because it's based around the original Japanese version of a Japanese franchise...? I... guess... so...?

... then let me rephrase what I said. We [myself included] are a biased crowd here because we are all "DRAGON BALL" fans. So if he ever dares to say anything negative about the show, I hope he's not met by this kind of hostility. My post had nothing to do with sub vs dub. Because every single one of us here IS a fan we are an easy target for trolls and as this thread shows, many here are easily offended by ANY type of comment... no matter how well meant it might have been.

So when I first saw this thread and saw the animosity growing between the members JUST because they couldn't all unanimously agree whether subs or dubs is the way to go, my first thought was... "If this guy even dares to dislike something about an episode and review about it here, he'll get lynched"

So it's not about having preferences or dislikes, it's about respecting others opinions.

I think that the only thing anyone ever was trying to say was that as someone just starting out, we would suggest he watch the show in Japanese.

Exactly, everyone was "suggesting" a different option for him and it all turned into this epic battle of opinions that had nothing to do with the original post. So I personally hope get to hear his honest response to every episode without him having to think of the reaction of the oversensitive people who seem to inhabit this forum.

The sad thing is, it wasn't even really different opinions, it was most of them forcing "Japanese with Subs" on the new guy. I was one of the few to suggest just watching whatever he was most comfortable with. Nobody said just stick with the dub. Blaze even said he liked the voices and music, so why not just leave him alone in regards to his choice, and not turn this into a contest to convert people. It's really ruining the mood of an otherwise nice topic. I hope he wasn't scared off, because I want to see what he thinks of more episodes.

And I am curious as well. To me, Dragon Ball was never a thought before watching it on Toonami, but when you start off your anime viewing on a fan forum, you're bound to see later episode material, even if you are careful. Sometimes, spoilers and images come up purely by being so used to them as old to the poster in question. Of course, seeing an image or hearing a random fact isn't the same as seeing a character in action.

I don't know where on Earth you people think that someone disliking any portion of the show and wanting to discuss it would bring about GROBBLE GROBBLE GET OUT. I fucking loathe portions of the series, express it often, and I don't have people telling me to get out. This just doesn't happen. At all. To anyone here. We're all perfectly capable of discussing the series in moderately-objective ways, or at least recognizing when there is a need to do so and conducting ourselves appropriately.

I also cannot believe that some of you still think that someone who's starting at the very beginning of the series and has the original Japanese version immediately available to them by pressing a button... and then posts about starting up the series on a community very specifically dedicated to the original Japanese version of the franchise... isn't going to bring about a few suggestions to watch it in Japanese.

Quite frankly, the only time any "harsh" statements came up was when someone decided to toss snide comments in about folks suggesting it in a friendly way. I haven't seen a single fan of the original version "jump down the throat" of anyone. What does that say about the dub loyalists...?

Our community is worldwide. The website stats prove it, the podcast survey proves it, the Facebook insights prove it, the anecdotal e-mails/comments/posts prove it. Tons of these people never received an English dub of the series. The original Japanese version is the sole version that the entire world can rally around and collectively participate in. That is the goal of this website, and by extension, its community. This is patently clear by reading more than two sentences anywhere. I'm flabbergasted that anyone still wants to put up resistance to this fact if someone dares recommend the original Japanese version -- this should be expected, and encouraged.

To the topic creator, indeed, I say don't let these other people "scare you off". The original Japanese version of the franchise has brought a wealth of entertainment to the entire globe for over 25 years. It is the golden standard by which we come together each and every day. It's why we are here. Want to watch something else? By all means, do so. We have fans of English dubs, Spanish dubs, French dubs, Norwegian dubs (OK, maybe not "fans"... ), Cantonese dubs, Portuguese dubs, etc. They all come here to talk about the series, and no-one thinks twice about it -- with the exception of "Oh hey, have you checked out the original Japanese version of the show? That's what we're all into here, and it's pretty cool. That's what we recommend."

I wasn't referring to any one as "daring to recommend"...I'm watching the Japanese version myself through the Dragon Boxes. I only meant some people mostly posted JUST to recommend the Japanese version, and never bothered to comment on his thoughts on the first episode, or even question him.

At least when I recommending going with whatever he wanted, it was only a small portion of my initial post, and I tried to focus on getting some insights from him, as a new fan. It just seemed like most of the people who recommended the original version didn't bother to contribute to the main topic at hand. That makes it seem less honest an intent. Like I said, I like the Japanese version as well as the English version, I just wish, since he's had more than enough recommendations, that they would let him make his own choice, and just keep to the topic at hand with discussion of the episodes.

I'm curious as to what your favorite character is thus far. Or, do you have a favorite? Have you got to watch any further episodes? If so, did they meet your expectations? Also, do you have any favorite moments yet?

One very interesting thing will be to see how someone who is seeing the series from the very beginning will react to later events in the show. I know my first experience with the series was DragonBall Z. I'm sure a lot of American fans started from the Z portion of the series.
It's the same question I have for new fans of Star Wars who may start from Episode I instead of Episode IV. Of course I will never be able to experience the show in that way, so it will be interesting to get input from someone who can.

Thoughts: Ok, I'll admit. Watching and reading this section made me LAUGH. Very hard. Goku is literally an IDIOT! And dang, he's 16! He's about the height I was when I was 6... And Bulma seems rude, but I'm only on the second episode. So eh? Great second episode!

Predictions: Hm. So the turtle appeared at the episode/page. And Goku and co. seem to be taking him somewhere? I didn't catch WHERE. So I think they'll get there, set him free, and continue onwards.


And of course, making up for yesterday..

Predictions: Wanna see this villain gang some more. And I think they;ll find they're 4th Dragonball next episode! Who knows what could happen...

Yeah, Goku's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but that's part of his charm. He's a nice, if not simple little fighting monkey child. And as for Bulma...let's just say you'll find some of her actions quite interesting in the future, both for the good and the bad. And I can't recall what villain gang you mean, I haven't watched the anime in years...did they have a name?
