How did they find a cure for the heart virus?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

When Trunks claimed that the population was reduced to the tens of thousands, was that in the manga as well?

If so, it must really mean that the androids kicked things up after getting rid of their favourite play-thing.

Yep, that was in the manga too. Of course, as Herms pointed out to me before, we don't exactly know how big the population was before they started killing...

Well wasn't it also mentioned at one point that Buu had killed billions?

Only on the back cover blurb of one of the English manga volumes.

If you want to count Neko Majin Z, it's said that the population is six-billion, but other than that...

Medical scientists could've found a vaccine for a heart virus either in the three years' training for the Androids (since Trunks said Goku would die "not long from now") or during the years in which the Androids were terrorizing Earth. For some reason, I'm edging towards the latter.
