Yes, they will make him do the new pieces BUT THEN kick his ass out of the company. If FOX and WB wants Toei to fire Yamamoto, then they have no choice but to fire him because if not, Toei can get sued for even more money and I doubt Toei would do something so much just for Yamamoto.penguintruth wrote:I doubt Yamamoto will even be fired. Which might explain Kai ending prematurely. I can't imagine it would have been a small settlement.penguintruth wrote:For all we know, acknowledging the rip-offs is part of some deal Toei has with the other companies, along with some private settlement.
Speculation, of course.
Re: Toei Officially Acknowledged Yamamoto's Rip-Offs
Pretty sure none of this has to do with Kai ending suddenly or why it hasn't aired on Nicktoons. I imagine this will only really affect the home releases. That's all, really. This may also mean they'll probably recall some soundtracks and issue newer versions with the replaced music.

Re: Toei Officially Acknowledged Yamamoto's Rip-Offs
Wait, what?!
OK, If I understand Toei's plan correctly, they're going to go back, replace some music here and there and send these new versions to (I assume) Fuji TV Two?! I say Fuji TV Two because it's really the only station playing repeats of DBK. It wouldn't make sense to send new versions to Fuji TV since they're the station showing the new episodes and I'd assume Toei would just use the new background music for these few episodes left. So, this means the initial run of DBK will have different music then the repeats.
Wow.
What are they gonna do about the DVD's and Blu-ray's?! Would they go so far as to conduct a re-call? Eh, probably not. But any future pressings would probably have the new music.
Also, I wonder if they're going to send FUNimation and other foreign markets the replacements. If they do though, this might delay the next DBZK DVD\Blu-ray sets.

Kai being broadcast in the US with it's original soundtrack intact could be why this happened in the first place.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:Also, I wonder if they're going to send FUNimation and other foreign markets the replacements. If they do though, this might delay the next DBZK DVD\Blu-ray sets.

Damnit. Does this mean I'm going to have to quickly start buying Kai DVDs before the content gets tampered with?
Do you follow the most comprehensive and entertaining Dragon Ball analysis series on YouTube? If you do, you're smart and awesome and fairly attractive. If not, see what all the fuss is about without even having to leave Kanzenshuu:

Well, this is surprising. Yamamoto's score for Donkey Kong Country Returns was mediocre at best, but I never would have surmised that he would plagiarize.

That Yamaoto Kenji is 山本健誌 instead of 山本健司. He is a completely different person.Lord Exor wrote:Well, this is surprising. Yamamoto's score for Donkey Kong Country Returns was mediocre at best, but I never would have surmised that he would plagiarize.
Re: Toei Officially Acknowledged Yamamoto's Rip-Offs
Yeah, they're completely different people. Unlike the Dragon Ball Yamamoto, the Nintendo Yamamoto is a fantastic composer, having done the music for pretty much every Metroid since Super, as well as the music in the NES version of Punch-Out.
Re: Toei Officially Acknowledged Yamamoto's Rip-Offs
It's just one blow after the other for this franchise
First DBK poor DVD sales
Then poor game sales
Kai stopping at the Cell Saga
Now this
And the funny/sad thing is, while I'm not too impressed with most of Yamamoto's songs, there were a few that I enjoyed and it seems those were plagiarized....
But yeah, I'm surprised anything is being done at all. Yoko Kanno has beena ccused of this for years and nobody ever said anything official about it.
I suppose it's because we are dealing with major international franchises here.

This is f'ed up, although I do like that it's possible I weren't so far of, when I said this:
...Or maybe not who knows?

Did he really think the japanese viewers would like the DB Kai soundtrack to consist of cheap ripoff tracks of recent American Action Films?
Seriously thuogh, I'm pretty sure everyone for the past few months had a good idea about what would happen, but hey at least Kai gave us this!!! amongst other fun tracks!
...Or maybe not who knows?
Re: Toei Officially Acknowledged Yamamoto's Rip-Offs
According to people on Twitter, on the later broadcast on the local TV channels yesterday, the musical score was completely replaced. One of them is even saying that the BGMs from DBZ played in Kai!

That is fascinating news. I really now wonder if this will maybe affect the future of the BGMs playing throughout the last few Kai episodes and what will happen to the episodes yet to come out in other territories.kei17 wrote:According to people on Twitter, on the later broadcast on the local TV channels yesterday, the musical score was completely replaced. Re: Toei Officially Acknowledged Yamamoto's Rip-Offs
I've gotta say, if they rescored Kai with Kikuchi's music, my interest in Kai would go from me watching an episode once every few months to see how the dub is going to me buying all the Blu-Rays. Ripoffs or not, Yamamoto's music in Kai bores the hell out of me. To think he's capable of the music he did for Ultimate Battle 22 and the Budokai series. I mean, what happened to songs like Hikari No Willpower, Zarbon's theme from Ultimate Battle 22, Gohan's piano theme from Butoden 2, and Piccolo's theme from Butoden 1? Kai seemed like a perfect opportunity for Yamamoto to use all the music he's done for the games and put them in the actual show. It just seems like such a wasted opportunity to me. I hardly notice the music in Kai. It mostly just sits there and doesn't add to the experience at all like the original music and Yamamoto's own, older music did.
Sorry, this is hardly on-topic and me borderline ranting outside the first sentence.

Now the official site of Kai says the composer is Shunsuke Kikuchi. It seems that they stopped using Yamamoto's pieces.Staff List wrote:音楽: 菊池 俊輔
Re: Toei Officially Acknowledged Yamamoto's Rip-Offs
This is brilliant, didn't Toei think of checking the product before it was given the ok to air in Japan? Maybe it would be hard to spot if as first, but still, surely someone would have noticed. What's the point of doing anything now? Wouldn't they have to re-release the DVDs and Blu-Rays? If so, I wonder if people would spend the ludicrous about of money Toei asks for them?
I like what someone said earlier in the thread, I wonder if this was planned just to milk some more money from Dragon Ball. It seems unlikely, but it's worth thinking about it.
