Toei Officially Acknowledges Yamamoto's Kai Rip-Offs
Re: Toei Officially Acknowledged Yamamoto's Rip-Offs
I'm actually a little annoyed by this. There were pieces of the Kai soundtrack I was really enjoying (though I don't think any of those were affected by this), but more importantly, I don't want this affecting the U.S. release of the series. If Kikuchi comes in to do some music, I hope he keeps it stylistically similar to the stuff we've been hearing in Kai thus far. His music is pretty different from the Yamamoto stuff, and if Kai's going to end at Cell, I at least want the soundtrack to be consistent.
Re: Toei Officially Acknowledged Yamamoto's Rip-Offs
Wait, DBK with Kikuchi's score? WANT CLIPS. NOW.

Just where the hell were they all this time?! The show is almost over and NOW they take notice?!
And what are they going to do with whoever bought their DVDs and BDs?! Are they going to ask to replace them if they send it to them?

Wow, I really hope this leads to rereleases of the Blu-ray sets with the Kikuchi score. I knew my decision to hold off on buying FUNi's release was a good idea!

From what I can tell the bulk of the riped off songs are from the OST for the Android/Cell arc. So it's fairly recent.
I'm guessing had DBK been an japan only thing they might have overlooked this but seeing as it's also in the U.S. they have no choice but to put out the flame before it turns into wildfire.
Btw, can anybody tell me exactly where DBK is now on U.S. TV?

Kikuchi soundtrack re-release?
Now that, I would lay down money for, if it uses redone themes from Z. That's the potentially the most exciting news about Kai since it was first announced (and before the first episode actually aired, obviously).

Kikuchi's score in Kai? Do want. No seriously Kikuchi's score in Kai is excellent indeed.

If anyone has Dragonball Raging Blast 2, go to the BGM section and check out track number 5 ("BUDOKAI"). I looked on YouTube and could not find the track, but it sounds just like this:

At least I think it sounds just like it and I saw this before anything like this went down.

Wow... This better not affect FUNi's releases. I don't want half the series to have Yamamoto's score, and the other half to have Kikuchi's score. That would be stupid.

Re: Toei Officially Acknowledged Yamamoto's Rip-Offs
Indeed, but I always thought that maybe one day I'd get it if it was re-released in a more cost-effective, original title cards and credits form. But as much as I prefer Kikuchi's score and would be thrilled to see what Kai would be like with it (and just imagine Kikuchi's score in stereo like on the soundtracks!), I now see the original version of Kai about to be buried forever, and the purist in me just can't handle that.Soul wrote:I thought you weren't touching Kai Gaffer?Gaffer Tape wrote:Damnit. I must be the only one that doesn't want the Kikuchi score. I prefer Yamamoto's stuff, or even Tokunaga's from GT(the best, imo).
Re: Toei Officially Acknowledged Yamamoto's Rip-Offs
Uh, I kinda doubt Kikuchi got hired to pump out an entire TV series score in a couple days here. Pretty sure they're just using his old stuff.xzero wrote:If Kikuchi comes in to do some music, I hope he keeps it stylistically similar to the stuff we've been hearing in Kai thus far.

Re: Toei Officially Acknowledged Yamamoto's Rip-Offs
This really is bizarre. Not necessarily that it's happening but more the timing since there are so many variables.
There are still 3 episodes of Kai left to air. So who knows what we're going to hear.
FUNimation is only about halfway through releasing the DVDs/Blu-rays.
Nicktoons still has a substantial chunk of the series left to air, too.
We can safely assume that any future reruns in Japan will have a replaced score and any future home release prints will, too. And that probably will hold true for North America, also. The question is what will happen with the initial North American airing and releases. I'd like to assume that FUNi will just finish up the series as is, and then any changes be reserved for subsequent releases. Just for consistency's sake, and all. But I don't know. Wishful thinking, maybe.

Yeah, which probably would sound horrible, or at least be really off, pacing wise, since the recut is what necessitated a replacement score to begin with.Adamant wrote:Uh, I kinda doubt Kikuchi got hired to pump out an entire TV series score in a couple days here. Re: Toei Officially Acknowledged Yamamoto's Rip-Offs
Obviously they're not going to keep the Kikuchi arrangements exactly as they were in Z, chops and all -- it would sound absurd with the music jumping all over the place. They'll likely rescore it with Z's OST.

Re: Toei Officially Acknowledged Yamamoto's Rip-Offs
If Funi re-releases those sets with the original score I will scoop them up so quickly. Who would have seen something like this coming?

Re: Toei Officially Acknowledged Yamamoto's Rip-Offs
If there is a potential for lawsuits from other studios; it's either pay up or replace the music. This is how it's been with other shows that never get release or get their music replaced. It's all about the money. This is one of the reasons why Malcolm in the Middle will probably never get a second season DVD release. This is just a conjecture, but it is possible.Turtle Marked Stone wrote:If Funi re-releases those sets with the original score I will scoop them up so quickly. Though, I'm curious is how foreign companies will handle this debacle. Will FUNimation be forced to change the current releases? This is a gray area for me, I really don't know if the music rights follow through with international licensing. It works with film. If anyone has more information on this particular area, I'd love to hear it.
Personally, I never much cared for the score in Kai. It was okay, but nothing special

Re: Toei Officially Acknowledged Yamamoto's Rip-Offs
I doubt that. Television scores aren't written to be scene specific. The same pieces are constantly reused and cut down to appropriate lengths when necessary. There's really no reason it wouldn't be able to fit.TonyTheTiger wrote:Yeah, which probably would sound horrible, or at least be really off, pacing wise, since the recut is what necessitated a replacement score to begin with.
