Even if they do replace the soundtrack with Kikuchi music, it may not necessarily be in the way the episodes that have aired with Kikuchi music have it arranged.
Which is why I want people to record the episodes for future reference. Given the circumstances and that Toei would rather Kai's repeats not be pulled, they probably grabbed whatever music they could get access to quickly and stuck them in. I think it'll be interesting to see how haphazardly arranged the music is.

One of the best tracks ever composed for Dragon Ball, "The Braveheart Challenges the Strong" is an original composition by Yamamoto (as far as I'm aware) so Yamamoto can compose really good themes. Plus I like his "Ebb and the flow" much better than its Avatar equivalent.

Uh oh...I just thought of something. It probably won't happen, but the thought is unsettling to me.

What if FUNimation decides they don't want to wait for the music to be re-composed and ends up going with their own musical score again in an effort to keep the episodes coming out at a steady pace? The return of Bruce Faulconer, perhaps? Oh no. I'm sure that probably won't happen, of course. Just a thought...I just hope it stays a thought, and not a reality.

Funimation are more likely to use Nathan Johnson's music in that scenario.

That's... even worse, to be honest.

But FUNimation are past the era of replacement scores, so I doubt that'd happen.

Yeah, I doubt that'd happen too, but I wouldn't put it beyond them. I mean, it's hard for me to remember all the way back to when GT got dubbed, but as I recall, people were pretty surprised that they decided to replace the music there. They had kept the original music for Dragon Ball, and were keeping the original scores for their other properties at the time. Not to mention that there's a reasonably vocal group demanding that Bruce Faulconer be brought back.

No. Must. Perish. Thought.

If Kikuchi's score flops with American audiences I wouldn't be surprised if they did do a replacement score, or at least use all Yamamoto's work sans the offending pieces.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
The Z music doesnt even fit with the actual show so it definitely wouldn't fit with Kai.

If Funimation uses their own replacement music, that pretty much guarantees I won't buy another product from them again. At least, no DB-related ones.

It will make them the worst anime licensor ever.

Z is not as soft show like DB so soft music doesn't fit period.

Agreed, I may be a dubbie, but I prefer Kikuchi's score over Faulconer's.

Really? Those are rare. But I count myself in that group as well--good to meet someone who thinks the same way!

Does twenty year old animation count as old crap? Kai is nothing but "using old crap for a new show."

P.S. Sentences start with a capital letter.

Just a quick aside to say that I'll never understand how Kikuchi's score could ever be classified as "soft"... Okay, that's done. We're walking. We're walking.

Anyway, in regards to the *shudder* possibility of Faulconer (or other English music) in Kai... surprisingly, especially to me, I find that to be a grayer area than anything FUNimation has done in the past, and there's definitely some good discussion to be had here. I mean, whatever you think of Yamamoto's score for Kai, the fact of the matter is that it *is* the score for Kai. In this case, as cool as it is to imagine the Kikuchi score in Kai, Kikuchi's score *is*, by definition, replacement music.

Sure I, and I'm sure many other people, would argue, that Kikuchi's score, or anything that Toei chooses, has a more legitimate place than something that FUNimation chooses, simply because Toei made the show, I find myself, on a certain principle, thinking that it wouldn't be *as* monstrous an affront to the dubbing industry as their previous decisions in that regard. I mean, in the past, they replaced music just because they could. But now we find ourselves in a situation where the original music (for this case, Yamamoto's) might actually not be available to them at all. So if the purity of the show is already compromised, and nothing can really fix that, I can see some logic in FUNimation finding a *certain* amount of legitimacy in doing their own thing.

Of course, keep in mind that I'm just playing devil's advocate here. If Kikuchi does become the new official composer of Kai, I'd rather FUNimation go with that, as it just makes more sense and carries more respect (and, of course, because I think that Kikuchi's score is the best DB score).

Well, I DO agree that the music sounded old (yes, I know DBZ is a late '80 - early '90 show, but still).

Even more dumber than "GT doesn't have a plot hole" and "Z's Anime pacing is fine"? :?
