Is that seriously what it looks like on the site? Why did they photoshop his Super Saiyan hair black? why couldn't they find a picture provided by the millions of images on the internet of a normal Goku? Why not keep him as a Super Saiyan? WTF!
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

Not to mention without the editing, that's a shitty screenshot of Goku anyway.

Anyway, apart from both being martial arts-focused and being promoted by Nickeloden, I'm not sure the two series even warrant comparison. They're just not that similar. They're from different eras and different cultures, subject to different standards, produced under very different philosophies, etc, and it really shows.

I can see comparing Dragon Ball to something like YuYu Hakusho, I suppose. Or Avatar to ... hell, what's another serialized western action cartoon from the last decade? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I guess. But it's apples and oranges to put them against each other.
I'm saying is that a lot of Avatar's concepts came about because of Dragon Ball's and similar animes' popularity at the time. Though comparing them together probably is pointless, yes. But Nick is trying to do that, so I kinda voiced my opinion.

My response is purely my opinion. It's great that DBZ Kai won, and it proved that it's a better show than Avatar: The Last Airbender which is a knockoff of it. I think it's obvious that the creators of Avatar saw DBZ because it feels like a cheap rip off of it.

"I love Goku,Gohan,Yamcha,Piccollo,Tien,Chiatszu,Chi Chi,Bulma,Vegeta,King Kai,and Trunks.Especially Goku.He's my favorite character.He's also the strongest and the main character."

"technically, ultimate gohan is the strongest, even stronger than ssj4 goku"

"KAMYA KAMYA KA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"guko can reck avatar show with one blast go go dbz"

Hilarious....brings back memories.

I agree though, that Guko is definitely the mainest character ever.

I think Avatar is actually a better show. In fact, it's better than most cartoons, American or Japanese. The writing is better, the art/animation is of a higher quality, the voice acting is absolutely amazing.

I'm glad that Kai airs on Nicktoons, because it was through that, that I was able to get into Avatar. I didn't expect I was going to like it, but I got pulled in.

I have never seen it, but still main character with a stick that screams out Goku to me, and bald screams out Krillin. Like I said it is my opinion.

Characters with sticks are all Goku and bald people are all Kuririn, got it.

Actually, I used to think it was "American Naruto", so I guess I can't criticize initial reactions.

Well, Aang is very energetic and lighthearted, the way some shonen protagonists are.

Wow, this is the worst reasoning I've ever heard. By that logic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a ripoff of Dragon Ball because of Donatello.

So he makes you think of Goku then huh?

Image

And he makes you think of Krillin, despite debuting 20 years prior?

You might want to watch the show before making such judgements.

Not that I've watched Avatar or anything, but I don't think you should judge it if you never seen it. If a character's personality somewhat resembles Goku's, so what? He's an inspirational character. Most of today's most popular shonen characters wouldn't exist if it weren't for him. Also, it's not like Goku was created entirely from scratch either; he was already based off something else! You don't see Journey of the West fans saying "Goku just screams Sun Wukong, so he sucks!"

...Right?

When I first saw Avatar advertised I was like "This totally wishes it was DBZ, man. Nickelodeon wishes they got DB, but no. They don't." I have watched a little, and while I did like the basic concept, I couldn't help but cringe at every grab at DBZ's audience, but those seemed to be rare. But then when Evolution came out and they were using "Airbending" techniques I was like :? isn't that backwards?

Wow, I love that I'm being attacked because I have an opinion. I don't like Avatar, so what? I think it's a ripoff of Dragon Ball. and some of you don't. Professor X came long before Krillin, so I don't mean all bald characters are Krillin, and characters tht wield sticks are Goku. What I am saying is that Aang looks like a mix of Goku & Krillin.

"Stick and bald head reminds me of Goku and Kuririn" is really more of a reaction than an opinion. You actually have to be informed and have a structured argument for something to be an "opinion".

But hey, I thought they were just biting off anime, too, before I watched it. Maybe you ought to give it a shot.

No one's attacking you for having an opinion. You're just being mildly dressed down because your opinion that it's a ripoff of Dragon Ball is based on, well... nothing. You've admitted you've never even watched the show, so, yeah, it does come off as a bit odd that you feel like you're in any kind of position to make that judgment in the first place. Penguintruth is right. You should give it a chance. Considering that people on a Dragon Ball fan forum are defending Avatar when it's being compared to Dragon Ball, that should really tell you something about the quality of this show. But nobody's saying you have to like it... just that when you complain and make sweeping assertions about things you obviously don't know anything about, you tend to sound... well, very, very wrong.

As for me, I'm sure I'm a bigger DB fan. I certainly don't post on any Avatar boards. I don't engage in the Avatar community. But even though I'm a bigger DB fan than an Avatar fan, I have to agree with the sentiment that Avatar is definitely the better story overall. Like penguintruth said, it's better drawn, better written, much more complex... I sure wish we had something like Avatar on television when I was a kid. It's simply amazing.
