Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discussion

With the Kikuchi Score being the norm for Kai now, that will make the Kai sets with the Yamamoto Score a lot more valuable, especially Part 4. Good thing I bought them on Blu-Ray while I could. I knew somehow it'd pay off.

I can't believe they're using the Kikuchi score so soon in America. Also there is an error in my TV's guide saying that Dragon Ball(Not Z) was going to be on at 10:30(about now) today on Toonzai. That would've been odd but cool.

Watching DBZ Kai on Toonzai(for the first time actually). As a pretty big Kikuchi fan, I've gotta say, I hate it here. For DBZ, Kikuchi fits the pacing perfectly. But here, Yamamoto's, while not a great overall score, was fitting for this pacing. Not to mention, I just don't care for the placement of Kikuchi's score in Kai. I guess I can't be dissapointed per-se. They did switch all the music in all these episodes in what, a week? People said they were airing with the Z score only a few days later, so who knows how fast it was done.

Damn, what a true mess of a product Kai turned out to be.

Toei just did it for the money. I'm sure they didn't put much time and effort into Kai.

Does anyone else really get bothered by the track "Ominous Silence" from the OST?

It would be totally eerie and perfect if it weren't for that stupid instrument that plays (not sure what it is called) that just sounds so off tune and misplaced that it ruins the track. There is a very short moment where the instrument isn't heard, and it sounds perfect, then it comes back in and it ruins it. Anybody else know what I'm talking about?

That track really reminds me of David Wise's music for Donkey Kong Country.

Kei I noticed that you have experience in isolating audio, do you think it'd be possible to somehow get rid of the harmonica in the track?

Absolutely agree. The Yamamoto score perfectly complemented the sped-up format of Kai. Kikuchi's just feels weirdly out-of-sync.

Too bad Yamamoto's score had very little variation to it, which resulted in the same five tracks being constantly used. I love Yamamoto's score, but even I can admit that his score was severely lacking, especially when it called for emotion of different kinds.

But isn't that what was used in Z? That seemed to be an incredibly appropriate piece. Or are you saying that because it was used for the same moment in Z?

Those comments are unrelated, although the scene is rushed in Kai.

Nicktoons goes back to showing repeats from the beginning on Monday, so I wonder if Yamamoto's score will still be used or if they'll switch to Kikuchi's score.

Everything composed by Yamamoto was replaced.
If Yamamoto had anything to do with those insert songs, then they will be replaced.

I was really hoping to hear Saiyan Blood and Super Dragon Soul on Toonzai, in all it's Engrish glory. The fact that it would air on a 4kids block would have made it all the more sweeter. Well, shit.

Did they even use super dragon soul at all, i didnt hear it at all when goku was a ssj in Kai.
