Captain Ginyu Saga being redone

Post by RC315 » Sat Oct 01, 2005 8:07 pm

It seems that Funimation will release the Captain Ginyu saga as a part of their Ultimate Uncut DVDs. According to this link,:
http://www.tv.com/dragon-ball-z-uncut/s ... l&season=3
new episodes will continue to air on Cartoon Network, at least until the saga ends. A new episode is even added called Ginyu Style. I suppose they are re-releasing these because the FUnimation's first episode in the Ginyu Saga is messed up and is extended from the original Japanese episode. I'm glad to see these being re-released. Some episode names have changed as well.

It's not confirmed. TV.com (once known as TVTome.com) is INFAMOUS for having false information posted considering it's all contributions from fans. There's no other sources pointing towards this, so it's best to wait it out until other sources actually confirm this. Reliable ones.

True, they even have their own Dragonball AF section. :P

Yeah, I'm not believing this untill either FUNI announces it, or the episode airs. I just think it would be utterly pointless for them to re-dub it.

Only possible reasons I could see for it would be to match up the episodes and fix up the horrendous voice acting since everyone tried imitating the previous voice actors. Though I highly doubt FUNi would do that.

I think it's very possible that it is being redone. The first episode of the Ginyu Saga was extended due to the Pioneer release that had major editing. The episode can now be fixed and the voice acting can be done much better. Also, the subtitles were incorrect, at least on the episode titles. I made a mistake by saying that they added an episode. I realized that the episode names have changed a bit. That site may have mistakes, but they have been right on episode names and when they would air for these Ultimate Uncut episodes that are currently being shown on Cartoon Network. I didn't think they'd continue and show the Namek saga after the Vegeta saga. Then I checked tv.com and saw that the episodes will indeed be shown without taking months off to show them.

Whether or not they retool the episodes, it could be quite a while before they're put to air for us to see. According to TVGuide's online listings, new episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh will replace DBZ the Tuesday after next (the 11th), just before we'd get into Ginyu.

Personally, I hope they're wrong. I'd like very much to see those.

Actually, Yu-Gi-Oh! is replacing Dragon Ball Z. DBZ will return (reruns of the Uncut seasons) on Oct. 15 at 7:30pm. However, something bugs me about that. Especially considering how there were complaints about the Princess Snake episode sent in to Cartoon Network.
That site may have mistakes, but they have been right on episode names and when they would air for these Ultimate Uncut episodes that are currently being shown on Cartoon Network.
Because more reliable sources had the info before them, such as Toon Zone. As mentioned before, TV.com is not exactly filled up by specific people. All the info put there is fan supplied. And many instances of other shows have had false info put in. Even friggen Pokémon had made-up episode titles put in. And if you look at the titles, they don't even appear to be any different from the original English titles given to them.

Let's compare.

Ginyu Assault -> Ginyu Style
Incredible Force! -> Incredible Forces
Frieza Approaches -> Frieza Draws Near
Goku is Ginyu and Ginyu is Goku -> The Great Body Swap
Calling the Eternal Dragon -> A Terrible Mistake
Gohan Defeat Your Dad!! -> Gohan...That's Not Your Father
Captain Ginyu...The Frog -> Captain Ginyu....The Frog

All but one of the "newer" titles aren't much different from the original English titles. All of the redubbed season 1 and 2 titles were pretty much nearly completely different. And I'm pretty sure FUNi isn't THAT dull with titles that they'd just change a few words around to call them "new titles." o_O

As I said, it's better to just wait for an actual confirmation since TV.com's not much of a reliable source.

DBZ will return (reruns of the Uncut seasons) on Oct. 15 at 7:30pm.
Ah, cool, I was worried I'd missed seeing them all. Sweet. I'll have cable within 10 hours. Naruto and Uncut DBZ here I come! ^^

Well ... concerning "Uncut DBZ", I doubt the Princess Snake episode will be shown in its entirty, as there was said to be an edited tape cartoon network had ready for that particular episode, but never aired. I'm suspicous about a majority of the other episodes as well, considering 7:30 PM is a much earlier timeslot than 10:30 PM, we may get some alterations done. Or we may not, time will tell.

How many more weeks does dbz have the 10:30pm timeslot? There's only one more week of redubs left, that leaves an extra week between them ending and Yugioh taking over. Will the rerun of the redub start next week during weekdays?
On hiatus.

We've got this week and next Monday left of redubbed episodes. Then Yu-Gi-Oh! starts up on Tuesday and will air Mon. - Thur. in DBZ's place.

Apparently Oct. 15 is a Saturday, so it seems we'll be getting one episode a week of rerun episodes. I have a feeling it won't stay uncut at the 7:30 timeslot since parents have complained about children seeing certain questionable programs on Saturday nights before ([adult swim]). I think they'd really flip out if they heard swears or saw excessive violence (especially when it comes to Goku and Raditz taking Piccolo's Makankosappo) early in the night from a children's animation network.

Are there plans for doing any of the other parts uncut? The other parts are already uncut. Releases from the end of the Frieza Saga all the way through to Dragon ball GT are already available in their original forms.

They mention at the end of the Frieza saga through the end of GT, all is uncut. I suppose there is still a possibility of the Ginyu Saga being re-released. They can just add it on to the Namek saga.

That's where it gets confusing, thanks to their need to name ever small portion of the series.

Namek, Ginyu and Frieza are all part of the Freeza saga in Japan. From Ginyu to GT, that's already available uncut.

Vegeta and Namek were not available in an uncut format until recently. The only uncut anything-Dragon Ball missing now are the first and second DB movies, the second and third Z movies, and the first thirteen episodes of Dragon Ball. Unless you also wanna count the final two Z movies needing a release and the possible import of "Plan to Destroy the Saiyans."

They said end of Freeza saga, not the middle (where Ginyu saga is) and not the beginning (where Namek saga is.) The end is where Frieza saga is, if they really mean it to be the end of Freeza saga in the Japanese version.

But DBZ movies 2 and 3 already DO have an uncut release. And they're better than these "ultimate" uncuts could ever hope to be. Except for the fact that there's no Japanese track and english subtitles.

Umm ... DBZ Movies 2 and 3, Pioneer's release, do have the Japanese version, what the hell are you talking about? They're clearly in their own respective DVD releases.

Oh... I didn't know that, thanks for correcting me. I thought I read somewhere that they didn't, I must be mistaking them with something else.
