Re: Re-Release w/Kikuchi Score (Speculation)
Someone on youtube posted the whole scene for Gohan killing Cell with the new music change. Personally I put on a huge smile after hearing the music I love from DBZ!!

Re: Re-Release w/Kikuchi Score (Speculation)
Thanks for posting the link to that. That was awesome! It's great to hear Kikuchi's score with the kind of fidelity it deserves, and I happened to think those were some pretty good choices. Also, interesting that the kept the sequence with Piccolo and the others attacking Cell.

Oh My.... That sounds amazing! This is what the DBZ score should have sounded like! They seemed to have tweeked it a little bit, but it still sounds amazing.

I thought it was against the rules to post those kind of links since they removed the link I posted?

Yes, I liked what Nagasaki did with that scene. Hopefully he doesn't screw up much on earlier episodes.Choice195 wrote:Oh My.... That sounds amazing! This is what the DBZ score should have sounded like! They seemed to have tweeked it a little bit, but it still sounds amazing.

It depends. Did you post a link for a way of viewing an entire episode illegally, unjustly, or unfairly, without actually working hard to buy the product that contained the episode?cloud1414 wrote:I thought it was against the rules to post those kind of links since they removed the link I posted?
What that other person did there is post a link to just a scene from the episode to analyze the BGM change. Nothing more, nothing less.
So mondo lame.

Re: Re-Release w/Kikuchi Score (Speculation)
Yeah actually I posted parts 1 & 2 of the episode. And before anyone flames me saying stuff like "you n00b you should of read the rules and BLARG!" I already apologized in that thread so yeah just getting that out. If the mods are going to get me for that, they should get the rest of the members who post links to clips of the show then. But this is just my thought, so meh. :/GotenDaisuki wrote:It depends. But anyways... I liked the choices of the tracks they used in the episode. Even though I really loved the other score than the one they are using now since I've been a fan of Kai since day one and I have parts 1-4 of the dub. But I really enjoyed this episode some tracks were used in wierd places but the one in the beginning of the episode was a good choice

Re: Re-Release w/Kikuchi Score (Speculation)
Yes, Nagasaki did make good choices in terms of where the music should be placed, but, in my opinion, and many others', he overdid it a bit. Episode 96 could have used silence. There were some instances where music was not needed. So, bad choice on Nagasaki's part.cloud1414 wrote:But anyways... I liked the choices of the tracks they used in the episode. Also, I liked Yamamoto's score very much and I'm disappointed that it is now out of the picture. But, what Nagasaki did for episode 96 was actually not that bad, I enjoyed the episode just as much as the others with Yamamoto's score.
He also did fairly well with episodes 34 and 35. I do have a few nitpicks about the song selection on those episodes, but, all in all, he did well, and I'm hoping to see what else is up his sleeve for the rest of the series.
So mondo lame.

Re: Re-Release w/Kikuchi Score (Speculation)
I am for the sake that Kikuchi IS dragon ball for me, Yamamoto only had a few good select pieces in my opinion.xzero wrote:Just curious, how many people here who own the first 4 Kai sets from Funi would repurchase those sets for the Kikuchi score version?
Personally, I wouldn't. I guess I just don't really care much for Kikuchi's score. Then again, I'd rebuy the whole Kai series if they included the Faulconer score (with many of the same tracks, but arranged better, i.e. with silence and getting rid of the silly, nonsense tracks that plagued it during the Cell and Buu arcs).

Re: Re-Release w/Kikuchi Score (Speculation)
I'm a little out of the loop, but... why is this going on? I know that the composer admitted to using someone else's score... but... why would that affect it this much? Why would it affect it to the point where FUNimation would change it up? I mean... the Ocean version rehashed Mega Man music and whatnot. Is it that big of a deal that it took over two years to notice this in the first place? I mean I could be wrong, but I don't want re-re-re-releases of this. And with the old score, now it will be even more like Z and Kai will be even more... well... useless. I think FUNimation should at least use the same score until they release to the point of the Japanese version.
Oh and came across an episode on Nick Toons last night from the "Android Saga" and it had the Kai music.

Re: Re-Release w/Kikuchi Score (Speculation)
A distribution company using music from another one of their own shows is hardly the same as a composer in Japan plagiarizing music from big-budget Hollywood movies that he had nothing to do with.

Re: Re-Release w/Kikuchi Score (Speculation)
I don't know how copyright works in Japan, but I didn't think it would be as harsh as it is here. I know Russia, for example, CONSTANTLY uses music that it can't possibly have rights to in their programming. They're big fans for the Requiem for a Dream theme and I've heard their programming use some Britney Spears and whatnot. And I know they couldn't possibly have acquired the rights for those. I've also been told that they don't care about any of that stuff and it would be doubtful that civil action would really be taken that far. Oh and yeah, I've seen Russian programming since those are my roots. But hey, if this is the case, I guess it's understandable, but... has it really taken them this long to notice this?

Re: Re-Release w/Kikuchi Score (Speculation)
Well, as I've postulated, it might have a lot to do with the show just catching on in America. Maybe had it stayed in Japan, no one would have bothered with it, but now that it's flaunting itself so close to Hollywood, that might have given it enough attention (and in litigation-happy America) that it came back to bite Toei on the ass.

Does anyone know what music it "stole" or why it's taken this long to notice even in the US?

Yes, the examples have been listed continuously in quite a few threads. While Toei has not identified specific examples themselves, what we've been pointing out as two primary ones from the Kai score are:
- "The Ebb and The Flow" is "War" from the "Avatar" (James Cameron) score by James Horner
- "A New Foe Rears His Head" is the "Terminator Salvation" opening theme by Danny Elfman
Both tracks were released on DragonBall Kai Soundtrack III & Songs, and both started showing up around the time Trunks appears in the show, which was just recently in the North American TV broadcast.

Oh wow. No wonder I haven't noticed them. Sorry about asking questions that have been addressed in other Threads, I just haven't come across those Threads I guess. Thank you.

How about the Rocky-inspired theme when Goku was running across the Snake Way?

Like I said in the comments, it's a good piece, and it's used well, but I still prefer the Kikuchi piece used in Z's version, a piece from DBZ movie 3.Kienzan88gt wrote:Someone on youtube posted the whole scene for Gohan killing Cell with the new music change. M1002 is one of my favorite pieces in DBZ. If Nagasaki put that piece in there instead of M1318 from movie 6, then it would have turned out a lot better.
