Dragon Ball was mentioned in
previous IGN listings, and here it is once again. This time, it's IGN
Top 100 Animated Series ((In America(?))) And... do you want to know what place did DBZ get?!
Keep calm, and stay civilized...
NO FLAME WAR PLEASE!!
Out of all the shows on this list, Dragon Ball Z may have the largest fan following. Based on the Dragon Ball manga written and illustrated by Akira Toriyama, DBZ was the second incarnation of the popular series, and to this day continues to be the best example of the series' hard-hitting style. Containing some of the most elaborately choreographed fight scenes in cartoon history, this program is like a love letter to those who enjoy a good brawl between good and evil... so much so that you are willing to watch nearly 300 episodes of build-up and payoffs.
The world of Dragon Ball is filled with an endless list of interesting and memorable characters, and while we don't have the space to mention everyone, we feel like we need to give a shout out to the series' main star Son Goku. When looking at the shows on this top 100 list, we are pretty sure that there may not be a hero who is as selfless as he -- Goku is downright suicidal in his quest to vanquish the world of evil. Kudos you goofy Saiyan

Goku is pretty selfish if you ask me :/

I wouldn't really say he's on a quest to vanquish evil. It seems more like if there is a bad guy about wrecking my backyard I'll kick his ass.
Its not like he seeks evil out, they just happen to be on the wrong planet at the wrong time.

I don't feel the selections categorize well or can be compared to each other.

The only point in such a list is making people aware of amount of time they've wasted watching listed series.

Men belong in the kitchen.
Everyone belongs in the kitchen, the kitchen has food

To be honest, IGN's lists and reviews are it's weakest areas. I disagree with the list and I'll leave it at that.
IGN is good for news and other things though.

A lot of these rankings don't make any sense. Are they ranked by quality, current popularity, how influential they were, or...?
I'm more upset about the fact that Tom and Jerry is so low. 66 for an Oscar-winning, highly influential classic? Seriously?

I think it was okay list, I don't think Naruto should be on the list if you ask me. Decent list, but I wish Looney Tunes, and Spawn: TAS where higher on the list.

To quote the ancient saying "You can't spell ignorant without IGN".

I think you meant to say "can't."

I don't think the list is that bad. It's refreshing to see.
The problem is that some series of the same genre, or that looks much like others, appear there. So it gets quite repetitive.

Wow, they sure understand the character, don't they? Well, about as well as Funimation does.
Anyway, this list is older than the pyramids.
DBZ is a fun show, but I wouldn't have even ranked it as high as they did. There are multitudes of better animated programs. Including DBZ is just pandering to the casual anime fan.
Kentai wrote:Son Gokuu is a fascinating character anyway, because he is - at face value, anyway - an idiot savant. But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

These rankings don't really make that much sense to me. What's the reasoning behind them?
This list should be titled "My 100 Favorite Animated Series".
Because according to this list....
Naruto and Aqua Teen Hunger Force is better than Tom and Jerry and the Jetsons (What?!)
I have a Dragon Ball collection of sorts which can be seen here.

While I don't think its a terrible list, but seeing Futurama, Family Guy, and South Park on the Top 10 with Simpsons being number 1 makes it look more like a Top 100 "Whats popular today" list, although I wasn't really surprised about that since IGN is such an unprofessional and ignorant site, not to mention its owned by News Corporation, who also owns 20th Century Fox, so there isn't really much to say about that.
Did you know they gave DBE a postive review?

I saw that list a while ago. Kinda compared to the list that Wizard had in 2001. On that list DBZ was at 50. Top 10m were:
10. Powerpuff Girls
9. Battle of the Planets
8. Johnny Quest
7. G.I. Joe
6. Batman Beyond
5. Transformers
4. Fleishcer Superman
3. Bugs Bunny Show/Looney Tunes
2. Batman: The Animated Series
1. The Simpsons
My friend thought DBZ should've been higher.

I'm glad to see south park beat Family guy.
I think Dragon ball should be higher personally. Although I'm not a fan of any old shows really. That might be part of it.

The list needs Mazinger Z. I see some people bitching that Evangelion is too high but I think it's in the right spot.
