So, it's possible we'll get 98 dubbed?

Yes. It's ready to be aired in Japan but that's not gonna happen so expect to see "Exclusive Episode" on the final box set in Japan. However, it won't have any effect on the Funimation version.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

I really wouldn't go making any bold proclamations about it definitely ever seeing the light of day. Episode 97 has been listed as the "final" episode, and absolutely nothing has been said about Episode 98 showing up anywhere else. There are a lot of things hinting toward them just tossing it aside, so it's a bit reckless to start deciding that it will show up on the home release, will show up later in North America, etc.

If the episode was set to air next week, I think it's safe to say that the episode is finished. It seems kind of reckless as a company to just throw that money away. Not airing it is one thing, but just pretending the episode doesn't exist? I don't think Toei is that reckless. If Kai has been such a financial burden I'm sure they are going to want to get at least some money back.

It's very possible. One episode of Pokemon (not the Porygon one) never aired because it slated to premiere a little after an earthquake. Apparently the pokemon featured had powers related in earthquakes. Not only did the episode never air in Japan, but it didn't premiere anywhere else.

Of course, we're talking about two different series by two different companies. It's possible they will release episode 98 on DVD/Blu-Ray. But wouldn't they have released a statement by now?

After this past month, I am completely convinced that Toei is the devil.

It could have been worse man, at least they gave it an ending point. They could have pulled it a long time ago and said forget it and left the remainder episodes to be home release only or not even finish it at all. Plus there's a chance that Kai will continue someday.

I think Kai tried to be Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, except it wanted to pull more corners and expect the same results. Sadly for Toei, it didn't work out that way.

If that's actually the case, it had 2 major things standing against it. Fullmetal Alchemist's initial airing followed the manga up to roughly episode 30, whereupon it deviated completely from the manga except for some basic concepts. Thus, Brotherhood is, in effect, a completely different--and completely new--show and storyline (and say what you want about DB/Z/GT's storyines; FMA is better, or at least deeper). Additionally, just as you noted, it cut corners. A lot. Completely new animation would have been a plus, and might have kept the show around longer. I suspect a new DB series might have enjoyed some success (DB: AF anyone ), but there are several problems associated with that, including the need to actually create a new storyline. FMA had an existing storyline that was dying for some animated love, and the timing just worked out well for it now.

In short, had DBKai been a completely new series or at least gotten brand new, OP/ED-quality animation rather than what it received, it might have done better.

In America, however, both of these series have been fantastic, and credit really needs to be given to Funi for their obvious level of effort in their Kai dub, but also for their truly fantastic Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood dub.
