What would happen if Masako Nowaza died?

Post by AoiKageNoChikara » Tue Mar 29, 2011 5:45 pm

I've been thinking lately, what would happen to dragon ball if nowaza-san died? I mean she's getting pretty old, and some of her even younger fellow seiyuu have already died.

What would happen to DB if she were to die? what do you guys think? :(

You are truly a disgusting person, to even think about her death. You are a sick person. There would be nothing we could do, first of all, and praying wouldn't help since she had already died. But that's not the point. The point is you shouldn't make comments like this. She's alive and well and we should be thankful for that.

He (or possibly she) was only asking a simple question. No need to flame, he/she was just curious. Obviously Nowaza is alive, and most likely well. I think a lot of fans would be really really upset, seeing as the VA for Goku would have died.

Agreed, but why would you think about someone's death when they're in perfect health.

Twisted inside?

It'd be the actual death of Son Goku as I can't even think of 1 person that can take on the role.

Well, there most likely won't be anymore Dragon Ball anime or Videogames.

I'm surprised she can still do the role, actually. Ever seen a recent Simpsons? Kavner's in her sixties now and she has this raspy feel to Marge's voice.

Either there would be no more DB Anime/video games or they'd have to replace her with someone different. Would be depressing. The VA's for Tenshinhan, Muten Roshi, etc are already dead. :(

If things like this get you into such a rage, then get off the Internet now before you go mad, or at least stay away from 4Chan.

Oh, get off it. He didn't say "Masako Nowaza should die," he just wanted to know what would happen if she did, since she's an iconic VA for Goku.

My guess is that they'd simply change his VA. Even Kenshiro and Seiya had their voices change at some point.

Because, let's face it, she's reaching relatively advanced age. There's nothing "disgusting" or terrible in discussing the all too real possibility of a beloved voice actor facing mortality eventually. It's not callous. It's just being practical.

It would be a HUGE loss since she's the voice of many major characters throughout the series, most notably Goku.

As for DB... they'd probably just find new VA's for her roles.
I have a Dragon Ball collection of sorts which can be seen here.

Sometimes I get the impression that this fandom overstates the age of the Dragon Ball cast (This thread isn't bad in this respect, 'relatively advanced age' is a good and fair way to describe where Nozawa's at; I'm just going on a tangent because the topic reminded me of this). I think it's a bit early to act like they all have one foot in the grave already... the majority of the cast's in their 50s or 60s, Nozawa's one of the very oldest at 74 going on 75, and that's not exactly terribly old itself. My grandfather turned 75 18 years ago, my grandmothers 13. I'm not guaranteeing that the entire cast will live for as long as what's ideally possible, of course, but almost all the actors have a lot of potential life remaining and I do think the general sentiments towards their age are a bit heavier than they deserve to be at this point... sometimes it seems like Daizex doesn't realize that it is possible to live past your 70s. Image I just don't think things are that bad right now. Come 2020 or 2030 we might think 'Man the Dragon Ball cast was so young back in the early 2010s, those were the good old days.'

Just chill. He's not being disgusting at all. It's not like he said he wanted her to die. He just asked "what if?" A number of seiyu who have worked on DragonBall to varying degrees have died in the last few years. Masako Nozawa could die tomorrow, or she could live another 20+ years for all we know. Given the fact that other seiyu in lesser roles have died (Tenshinhan and Mr. Satan for example) it's only natural to wonder what might happen after the loss of a seiyu in a more important role.

As far as the OP is concerned, her death would certainly be a sad day for fans everywhere. At the same time, everyone would move on. If anything new was made and it required new dialogue for Goku, Gohan or Goten, they would simply find a new person to voice the role. No it wouldn't be ideal, but it wouldn't mean the death of the series. There are many things that could doom the series, but the death of a seiyu (sad as it may be) isn't one of them.
