Cooler's Revenge/Return of Cooler DVD Steelbook on eBay

Post by Li'l Lemmy » Wed Mar 30, 2011 2:22 am

Those of you still looking to get your hands on a copy of the Cooler steelbook should check out this eBay Buy It Now listing. The price ain't great, but at least it's not three figures. Buy it while you can.

Money not an object? A second, more expensive listing can be found here.

What a coincidence I was about to post a ad for my Blu Ray version. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Dragon-Ball-Z-Co ... 500wt_1156

Oh, the prices ARE quite insane. Even the $84.99 listing should give us pause, despite that it's the more "reasonable" of the two.

But we hafta put it all in perspective. It's one thing if you have no interest in the Steelbook releases; it's quite another if you have all but one and are looking to complete the collection-- by now, some of us are pretty desperate. I was mainly thinking of people like oXdanXo, for whom I know the latter to be the case. ;p

Oh I bet it must be maddening. I honestly cannot understand why Funimation allowed that to go out of print. You would think that they would want to always keep a version of the films on store shelves. Hell they're still printing the Orange Bricks even with the DragonBoxes being out. It just seems so un-Funi to not have this readily available.

Is it really that rare to be worth that much?

I bought it at my local Best Buy months ago for twenty some odd dollars, and there was more than one copy there.

It depends on where the edition is rare. Some local area merchants might still carry it, but the key word there is "area". In some places, this item simply isn't offered anymore. In others, it ain't unheard of to get lucky. It all comes down to where you live.

It's possible to find it with some tracking and footwork, I suppose. But the fact that it has completely disappeared from online retailers is a telling sign that the DVD is out of print. Copies will become more and more rare as the shops that actually have it sell off the last of their stock-- it's inevitable. However many months ago you purchased your copy just might have been all the difference in the world. ;p

Interestingly, you should probably check that Best Buy again to see if they still have copies. o.o

Somehow I doubt that the inflated pricing has anything to do with how good or bad the individual features are. It's more about exploiting the elusive nature of this particular edition of those features.

I'm a Movie 11 person, myself. ;p

You know, I was thinking, this thing is out of print, right? Well, why is everything that's out of print always skyrocket in price. Example: I bought Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie off of amazon, used, in like new condition for $36! The other 3 like news were $90+ I'm just using this as an example, but I mean, this is ridiculous. I think amazon (if they still have it listed) or eBay should check the prices of these things to make sure that the product that's going to be sold will have a fair price. Don't you guys agree? I mean, I wouldn't want to pay ~$100 to watch movies 5 and 6 on Blu-ray.

I think you are missing the point of supply and demand. It's not Amazon nor eBay that are pricing these discs at insane amounts. Its the members that see people are willing to pay huge amounts of money for an item. You might not want to pay a hundred for Movies 5 and 6, but there others more than willing. Lil'l Lemmy said it perfectly!

Take this story, I pushed off buying this rare album last year. It retailed from Rhino for $60.00 USD. Now, its OOP (Out of Print). Now, I have to pay over $100 USD to get it. The rarer it gets, and if its in demand, require more money from those that know its rare.

I managed to get one used last month for $15 on ebay. I got it, watched it, re-listed it on ebay and it sold for $60.
I have a Dragon Ball collection of sorts which can be seen here.

The blu-rays can be found cheap all over the place. It's the dvd version that is ridiculously priced.

I bought all of the Double Feature Steelbooks and Blu-rays as they came out...

This might just be wishful thinking, but maybe FUNimation is phasing out the Double Features in favor of a domestic Dragon Box: The Movies? I honestly like the Double Feature footage more, but I would go ahead and get Dragon Box: The Movies just for the beautiful cover art, wow...
