Re: Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discuss
My best guess is that they will still have the Yamamoto score, with all of the plagiarized tracks (i.e. "The Ebb and The Flow") replaced with another track from the Kai score. Funimation has done this already with the Nicktoons airing of Kai, so I can see the Yamamoto score sticking around for at least one more set before we end up having to deal with the out-of-place Kikuchi score for the rest of the series.ringworm128 wrote:A bit off topic but does the Funimation Kai Blu Ray sets still have the Kenji Yamamoto score? It's either that or Funimation is just going to use the Kikuchi score on the next set.

Re: Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discuss
Everyone keeps forgetting (or they simply do not know) that no-one behind the series has actually come out and officially confirmed which pieces from the score have been plagiarized, if at all.
Sure, we've done the dissections and have a pretty good idea, but we're not music professionals or lawyers -- those folks could come right in and demonstrate exactly how and why certain pieces either are or are not technically infringing works.
Anyone who thinks the Yamamoto score will stick around in any capacity is living in a dream world. Every bit of official branding for the series in Japan has already switched the composer to Shunsuke Kikuchi, the Japanese home release has already switched over, the Japanese TV broadcast has already switched over, new dubs throughout the world have already switched over, and in-progress international dubs are in the process of switching over.
We've said it before, and we'll say it again -- it's likely that whatever notification came into Toei was harsh or at least "substantial" (in some way) enough for them to take it so seriously that they immediately removed the score, and removed it completely. There is nothing in Yamamoto's score for "Kai" that can be trusted as non-infringing, so there is no reason to take any chances with keeping some portions and not keeping others. The entire thing has been thrown out, and if you want what ever existed, you need to go out and purchase what soundtracks and home releases are already available. They will not be the archived version of the show.

Re: Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discuss
Even with you saying that, I bet people are still going to ask about the following, so I'll throw these preemptive answers:
Then why did they just switch out a few tracks on Nicktoons recently instead of the whole score?
Who knows exactly, but it's likely a stopgap measure until they completely redo all the tracks on every episode. Like I mentioned earlier in the thread, Funi has over 100 episodes to fix (~60 episodes x 3 versions). That's a lot of time and money.
Why are all these other dubs showing up in other countries with the original music then?
Probably because they were in production before this all hit, and the new music is likely trickling down whatever chain of custody they go. Some of this stuff is based upon Funimation's Nicktoon edits, so they really can't apply the new music from the Nicktoons version if the Nicktoons version isn't ready yet.

I'm really hoping that Part Five still keeps the Yamamato score, even though it seems unlikely at this point... I love Yamamato's score for the Android Saga

I'm predict the Yamamoto score will be gone for good by the time Part 5 is released. Maybe a bit later, Nicktoons will transfer to the Kikuchi score and that would be the end of that.
So mondo lame.

So, shouldn't we be seeing some people getting their copies from RightStuf soon? They usually ship a few weeks early.

My copy hasn't shipped yet. I'm thinking before the week's over it will be on its way, though. I'll be sure to post in here when it does if someone else doesn't beat me to it.MetalMadness wrote:So, shouldn't we be seeing some people getting their copies from RightStuf soon? Part Five is coming out 6/28.
By the way, on FaceBook Dameon Clarke confirmed he will voice Cell in Dragon Ball Kai.

That is great news. I loved Clarke's Perfect Cell in the Funimation dub of Dragon Ball Z.JulieYBM wrote:By the way, on FaceBook Dameon Clarke confirmed he will voice Cell in Dragon Ball Kai.

That actually irks me a lot. Because Travis Willingham said on his website that FUNimation told him that he'd be the voice of Cell in Kai. Kind of a dick move to just take it back now if you ask me. Not that I have a problem with Dameon as Cell, it just seems kind of unfair.

They did it with Freeza too. They casted Linda Young, and even did the laugh in Episode 1 only to be replaced by Chris Ayres.Gozar wrote:That actually irks me a lot. Awesome Travis Willingham is decent but nothing can compare to Dameon Clark especially with Kai's script and voice acting.JulieYBM wrote: By the way, on FaceBook Dameon Clarke confirmed he will voice Cell in Dragon Ball Kai.
Well from what I've heard a big part of voice acting is knowing that there is chance that you will be replaced before you even start your role. So I'm sure Travis Willingham wouldn't mind since hes probably used to that sort of thing happening.Gozar wrote:That actually irks me a lot. I'm pretty excited! I loved his Cell. Although I was pretty curious to see Travis's take outside the video games.

I think I'll be buying assorted Dragon Ball things for the rest of my life.

And I feel that was a dick move too. The should have just recast her from the start. I'm sure they were considering it. Frankly I think Willingham is a better actor than Clarke anyway. I was really looking forward to hearing Willingham's take on Cell outside of the Video Games.DB_Fan1991 wrote:They did it with Freeza too. Found a link. Can't wait to see his return as Cell, I really loved his performance, and can't wait to see it with the new direction.

Hm... If Clarke tones down the somewhat over-the-topness of his voice, it may be good, and on the upside, if Willingham was originally to be cast just to imitate him like in the games, I'd probably rather have Clarke himself than an imitator.
If Willingham was to take a different approach this time however...

Wow, what a pleasant surprise. I was not expecting Clarke to return. With a new direction and experience under his belt he could step it up a notch to become a fantastic Cell. His voice always suited the role.
It is a shame Yamamoto's score won't be there to introduce him.

Re: Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discuss
That's actually why I love Willingham. He takes what Clarke put in place which was great, but toned certain aspects down (Namely with Perfect Cell). To me he sounded perfect. But if Clarke can take it down a bit too, I'll be very happy.Metalwario64 wrote:Hm...
