Project for school class focused on DBZ DVD releases
See, I'm doing a sales speech as part of my Effective Oral Communication class. For that speech I'm doing it on FUNimation's Dragon Ball Z: Dragon Box. I'm going to show off a few screen shots of previous releases like the orange bricks and the Ultimate Uncut Edition, but I'd like some member's help on this. Heck, you can even use this as some project for Dragon Ball school related or not like a fan project as suggestions for it. Go nuts. I just want to know what else I can use instead of screenshots for my Power Point. Thanks, guys!

You can compare features and content. And prices......make it like one of those "oh wow, that is affordable!" sales pitches.

It'd help. Weren't the orange bricks around $40 when they were released and the UUE's were $30?Ahiru77 wrote:You can compare features and content. And prices......make it like one of those "oh wow, that is affordable!" sales pitches.

Well, I would also like some screenshots. I mean, I can use that info but I'd like some screen shots too, if that's alright. Mostly from the single releases.

Re: Some suggestions I'd like to hear
You should do it on the entertainment part of Dragonball/Z/GT and the US. Explain the pros and cons for different versions of the series. In other words:
VHS Edited and Uncut (Show off how the sagas, when completed, make a different picture for each version)
Original DVD's
Remastered Seasons
Dragonball Boxes
Dragonball Kai
That would be pretty cool

That wouldn't work. I'm doing a sales speech. Kinda like if I came up to your door and wanted to sell you the Dragon Box or like a TV Commercial and show the features.TheLegendary117 wrote:You should do it on the entertainment part of Dragonball/Z/GT and the US. You could have the two videos of say, the opening playing side by side to compare. Or you could have a split screen to compare as well. Like a lot of people have said, the Dragon Boxes look great in motion.

I don't like that comparison of Raditz. It doesn't show the whole picture which just makes it look like a bad comparison. I would need a comparison from someone who has Season 1-3 or something since I only have 6-9 since I sold my 1-5 boxsets.

Re: Some suggestions I'd like to hear
There's some very wrong stuff in that screen cap comparison. For starters, Kai looks leagues better than that, particularly on the Blu-ray release. Looks to me like it's just some shitty online encode (either from a raw or digisub) tossed into the mix. Hell, even the JP DVDs look better than that. The FUNimation DVD shots also look like they're heavily JPG compressed.

Yeah, I was shocked someone put that up. I mean, I'm looking for separate shots. Like the infamous one of Super Saiyan Goku's lines being erased while Freeza is powering up to 100&. I need to see the single version of that and I'll use the remastered one and DBox one along with the single release.VegettoEX wrote:Waiter? My friend just sent this to me.
I suggest:
Compare the quality of other releases to the Dragonbox
Compare the target audience. Talk about how the Dragonboxes market towards the hardcore and use the Japanese audio as the standard over the Funi dub.
Compare sales; especially to Kai since they came out around the same time.
Compare it's release to Kai in general. Visuals to presentation and yadda yadda yadda.
Personally, I'd use the back of the Dragonbox as a template for my speech:
"Are you a hardcore enough for the Dragonbox?" "You may like Dragonball but only REAL fans buy the Dragonbox!" you know that sort of thing.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?
Re: Some suggestions I'd like to hear
I suggest using some of the images in the "Worst of the Orange Bricks" section on Kamevision.

The original MSRP for the orange bricks was $49.95. The MSRP for the UUEs was $24.95. Both could be found for less than that when they were first released.ShadowDude112 wrote:It'd help. Re: Some suggestions I'd like to hear
It's been around ever since Kai came out, I thought it was your work Mike, but obviously that's not the case. I'm glad to hear that Kai isn't that blurry. Anyway as for your presentation start with the single DVD releases and how Funimation would over saturate the picture to the point of distorting the colors as well as zooming in the picture too much on the single DVD's then at the end focus on what Funimation did with there Orange Bricks as a lesson on how NOT to remaster a series with the screen chopping and the unnecessary DNR that was applied to the picture and obliterated detail. Those are just some of my suggestions, anyway good luck on the project.VegettoEX wrote:There's some very wrong stuff in that screen cap comparison. Re: Project for school class focused on DBZ DVD releases
Let me just clarify. This project is not on the DBZ DVD releases. It's a sales speech on why people should buy the Dragon Boxes. It has to be 5-6 minutes long. So, I need something short. My presentation will be 3 minutes. My power point will also be three. I was asking members if they could supply me with screenshots, or clips (Just one which I'll use for my power point to show the releases in motion.) to show the comparison. That's all and I was also asking what I could to to make people interested. I can't state every single release of DBZ and then say why you should get the Dragon Boxes, I have to get straight to the point of why you should buy them. If I'm going off rude, I'm sorry since I'm not trying to be. The one clip I ask of a member is if they will supply me with a remastered boxset clip and 1 screenshots. I will say what I want the clip to be when I decide. I might make it from Box 1 since that's the Dragon Box I'm bringing. I would like a proper screenshot of this from the remastered set:
. That's it. There's another screenshot I can use in a Remastered vs Dragon Box thread I posted in. So, I just thought I'd clear that up for people. Thanks.

Re: Project for school class focused on DBZ DVD releases
The fact that someone saved a comparison shot as a highly compressed jpg blows my mind. But even then, that looks like it had to be pulled from a 480i SD cap.
Kai was created from capturing the original film elements and is presented on the disks at 1080p, so in terms of clarity it probably has the clearest lines if only by virtue of the fact that it's higher resolution than any of the DVDs. The color and so-forth have been futzed with of course, using various color correction and softening filters so it's not exactly the same thing as the original. Even still, you won't have a clearer picture until they get around to dumping the Dragon Box masters onto Blu (provided the remaster was in HD.)
Is there info floating around about how the Dragon Box was remastered? Was it scanned in at 2k, etc? I haven't poked around much, but I'm just curious.
