Path To Power Movie
How did you guys like this movie?
I like the idea of it, retelling Dragon Ball part 1 and all, I also can dig the new designs. What I don't like is that there was no Kuririn, Goku wearing his GT gi and a few other things here and there.
What did you guys like or dislike about the movie? I would really like to know because this seemed like a pretty interesting movie, some people loved it and some people hated it.

I really liked this movie. I felt the ending was kind of rushed, as in there was no real epilogue, but all in all I really enjoyed it.
I wish the had done the same with the rest of the DB saga , covering both the 22nd tournament arc, Piccolo arc and the 23nd tournament . Kinda hard to pull of since all three story arcs are directly linked but it would've been nice.
I wish I could've seen this in japanese , but the english dubbed version wasn't bad

I agree with the above poster, but I also think that a trilogy of anniversary movies covering the series would have been best.

Terrible, rushed movie. But it has the best animation the Dragon Ball franchise has ever seen.
Re: Path To Power Movie
This is probably my favorite movie out of them all. I remember seeing an amazing (for the time) AMV of it set to Metallica's 'Hero of the Day' (one that I feel is sorely left off of the AMV page on this site ... it's about the same vintage as Particle Man, at least as far as being encoded ... so some guy probably did it on two VHS decks. Even still, I consider it a classic considering the age -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4LAU2AgEQg) and at the tender age of 12 or whatever I saved up money to SASE a fansub of it.
I was excited, because it was a dupe sourced from an SVHS master made from an LD(?) and Genlock. I was like... it's like a 2nd gen copy!!
This was years before the DVD came out. I figure I'm probably one of three people who was excited when this came out on DVD initially, though.
If I can be a bit contradictory vs. the last post, I think it's actually one of the better condensations of the tv storyline and one of the better movies in general. I think picking the Red Ribbon as the villain was probably a smart move in pacing; the movie focuses highly on the main characters being introduced to one-another in amazing animation, and having a fairly black and white villain helps to not only keep things uncomplicated, but also keep the pace of the movie believable. You're not bogged down in introducing the backstory of the villain (such as Gurumez in the first movie), and you can do all the gag highlights of the original series... Goku meeting his friends, the deal with Bulma and her panties, learning the Kamehameha, et al, which is sort of the intent of this thing. Even though a lot of the RR characters are abbreviated (which, again, this is the core cast's story), the story of Ha-chan is represented well and heartwarming enough that you don't think that the Red Ribbon is completely fluff; you have a reason to hate them other than 'they're evil and annoying.'
Mainly, I think this one isn't as well liked because it's not a Z film. If you're not a big fan of all the stuff from the original show, then this one's not going to do a lot for you. Then again, for the Z fans who want great animation... that's pretty much why the 13th Dragonball Z movie exists. It has about as good of animation as this, though personally I dig the 12th movie a bit more myself... if only because it captures the whimsy of the Buu story.
I would love to see this come out on Bluray, and see Funimation redub this with the Kai cast like they did the Blood Rubies film. I highly doubt they'll redub it this point, but if any of the movies needs the same love and attention the Kai adaptation has gotten, it's this one.

My favorite movie henchman is Sancho.

I don't see what's so rushed about it. It's a lot better than a lot of based-on-TV-anime movies that I've seen.Cipher wrote:Terrible, rushed movie. But it has the best animation the Dragon Ball franchise has ever seen.
That, and it has that part where Goku fights all the tanks. That scene's my favorite piece of Dragonball animation ever.

It's not one of my favorite movies but do not hate it.

Again, beautiful animation, but the movie's structured like a highlight real. Despite its absolutely jaw-dropping production values, I still have a hard time sitting through it.Kendamu wrote:That, and it has that part where Goku fights all the tanks. I don't see how it's like a highlight reel. It all flows together pretty well. It's not like it just skips from part to part incoherently. If that were the case I never would've understood it. Sure, it mashes arcs together, but if that's your problem with it then you might as well just put it that way.Cipher wrote:Again, beautiful animation, but the movie's structured like a highlight real.
