A certain anime store...

Post by kenisu3000 » Mon Oct 10, 2005 12:50 am

I was going to mention this to you guys a long time ago but it must have slipped my mind.

I've now collected almost all of FUNi's DragonBall/Z/GT DVDs (the only one I'm missing is the newest one from the Great Saiyaman saga, and that's only because I've been feeling too lazy to do any online shopping lately), and this is due to the fact that a good while ago, I stumbled upon an anime store that sells these DVDs at the cheapest I've ever seen them: (link removed by administrator). Really, I was able to get the Freeza DVDs for some $11 each.

The thing is, at prices like THAT, I've had to wonder if there isn't any black-market sorta thing going on there. They do sell bootleg material (not the FUNi DVDs, but they do sell those bootleg Dragon Boxes), and I asked them why they sell bootlegs. They responded by telling me that none of their products are bootlegs (which I know is a flat-out lie since I was dumb enough to buy the first of those Dragon Box bootlegs and I *know* it's not the real thing), but all the same, I wanted to let you guys know about this place so if it is totally legal (at least the FUNi discs), then you'd be able to get the DVDs cheap too.

Also, I guess I should mention that a few of the DVDs I bought from them, although packaged perfectly from FUNimation, happened to have some light-but-ugly scratches all over the back when I opened them. They work just fine in my player, though... it was probably one of FUNi's own goof-ups.
BGM forever! If only more people paid attention to it... well, I intend to change that.

Well, can you really expect them to admit to you that they are bootlegs? As for the state of the DVDs, I can't say for certain that it's one of Funi's goof-ups, but I know I've bought a couple of brand new DVDs that had the cases broken inside.

The old DBZ DVD's have been selling for cheap for quite a while now. I've seen used discs go for $5 and even lower. However, deepdiscountdvd.com is selling Freeza saga discs at $8.99 which includes shipping. A pretty decent price if you're into buying these things.

That place definitely sells bootlegs. They have a FUNimation DVD listed as Dragon Ball: King Piccolo Saga Part 3. There never was a part 3, not even in Autralia's Madman release of the series. The cover they made up for it is pretty funny though. It's just a bunch of pictures from other Dragon Ball DVDs. See it here: http://www.shopanimedvd.com/product_inf ... l_sid=true[/url]

Oh sorry, my bad, I guess they do sell some bootlegs from FUNimation, now that you've mentioned that "DragonBall Part 3" set. All I know is the ones I got from them weren't bootlegs, except for the fake DragonBox part 1. And before I get flamed, let it be known that I had no idea it was a bootleg at the time! Of course, I *did* have my suspicions that it was a little too good to be true...
