Harmony Gold Dub on YouTube
Re: Harmony Gold Dub on YouTube
The Japanese version doesn't have a blue rectangle, the credits are directly on top of the animation. FUNi put the rectangle there so they could put in their own credits.

They never even got a textless version?Puto wrote:The Japanese version doesn't have a blue rectangle, the credits are directly on top of the animation. FUNi put the rectangle there so they could put in their own credits.
Re: Harmony Gold Dub on YouTube
It's too bad that Funimation never received some of the textless material that Harmony Gold did.

Apparently not. Toei gave Harmony Gold a lot more textless material (such as Dragon Ball OP2, and the Movie 3 ending) that they didn't give other licensors. One possibility I'm imagining is that they threw away most of the textless stuff after DB and DBZ were finished (if you recall, Harmony Gold licensed the show before it ended in Japan).Pokewhiz7 wrote:They never even got a textless version?Puto wrote:The Japanese version doesn't have a blue rectangle, the credits are directly on top of the animation. That's just the audio synced up to the Japanese intro. Harmony Gold used a textless version of OP 2. Here's the actual one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvHZt8ispmkSylentEcho wrote:Here's the original opening from the 80's:

Thanks for that! Is there a way to actually watch this version? I can't seem to find it anywhere.Pokewhiz7 wrote:That's just the audio synced up to the Japanese intro. Here's two more clips from my project for those interested:
Goku and Oolong meet Yamcha:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcvY7RCuj3g
Oolong and Puar run into each other in Gurumez's castle:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsV-0kqP4Mk
I was able to find the missing Kintoun audio and music I needed in the 5.1 track on the Funimation DVD. The Funimation DVD's color was actually much closer to the VHS as well, so I've switched to that instead to try to match the experience up as close to broadcast as possible.
I've pretty much completed the whole thing now except for export and encoding, though from there I'm not quite sure what to do with it exactly. I don't know if VegettoEX has any interest in reviewing it on the podcast or not, but I might give it to them if they do. (I doubt they really care though.)
In the process of this, I actually reconstructed the original Japanese opening movie title in 4x3... I might release that clip for people who want to use the Funimation DVD and remove their titling or something. I also created a custom credit sequence too.

Re: Harmony Gold Dub on YouTube
Question regarding the Harmony Gold dub. Were any Robotech cast members like Tony Oliver, Dan Woren, Rebecca Forstadt, etc in it?

Re: Harmony Gold Dub on YouTube
God help them if people find out it's actually them playing the characters! They might even, *gasp*, get found by other companies! Maybe Harmony Gold required them to go under aliases.linkdude20002001 wrote:The Cast:

These are all (known) names these guys have used for years on non-union jobs. The actors probably did it themselves -- much like the Metal Gear Solid guys -- to stop from getting fined by SAG. Harmony Gold could just not have credited anyone if they wanted to hide their voice actors away.Pokewhiz7 wrote:God help them if people find out it's actually them playing the characters! That makes sense considering their aliases were very similar anyway.Ashura wrote:These are all (known) names these guys have used for years on non-union jobs.
