Just wanted to say that I'm super excited to see you do this. I don't know if you need any help in the choosing of which scenes to keep and what not, but I've actually done that in the past. I'm sure you've started to plan it out well anyways, but if you ever need a second opinion, I'd love to throw in my two cents.

3 questions:

1. Are you going to stream these weekly, or just whenever you finish an episode?

2. Are you sticking to some sort of time limit for each episode, like Kai did, or just anything in the ballpark of 19-20 minutes that gets you a decent cliff hanger?

3. Feel like giving away how far those first 6 episodes get? My old predictions would have had it in the middle of the Trunks/Goten fight.

Umm... why is no-one pointing out the horribly-stretched and crunched footage...? I just don't see what's so impressive about that at all.

I'd also like to remind folks that any type of distribution of footage beyond reasonable limits (a clip here and there) will be subject to harsh moderation up through permanent bans. Fan projects are certainly OK to discuss and even collaborate on, but there comes a point where it crosses the line. I haven't really read up on much in this thread, so I'm not entirely clear on what the "plan" is, but please keep in mind that Daizenshuu EX cannot and will not be a place to distribute this.

Well, the plan was to just make a few episodes at a time and livestream them, but if its against the rules to post a link to the stream, I'm okay with it and will ask people to contact me for further ways to view this.

As for the intro, I'm glad people are enjoying it, but I agree about it not being mondo-impressive.

Plan is to finish few episodes at a time and while I stream them weekly, I work and release the next batch of episodes.

The length for an episode is 19-20 minutes as Kai and there will be an attempt to atleast have an episode conclude on a cliffhanger, but if not a cliffhanger, then an ending to the episode that can keep you satisfied.

Not sure about the first 6 episodes in total, for now episode 1 (or 99 if your counting the original Kai) will combine episodes 200 and 201, but each summary for an episode will include which manga chapters and DBZ episodes it covers.

So, you're leaving in the bus hijack. How are you going to work with Videl finding out Gohan's identity? Are you going to edit it so you just (ultimately?) have to (use?) the bus hijack scene, or are you going to use the baby pterodactyl episode? That is definitely the most creative you will have to be with the editing process, since the manga and anime handle this section in completely different ways.

Although, I would say if the dialogue doesn't make it sound too odd, then you could probably start Episode 2 with Videl revealing she knows who Gohan is in the hallway at school. If you're super good at editing, you could just put a scratch on Gohan's face after he catches the bus, then leave the hallway scene untouched, and we would buy it I think.

You may want to re-animate some scenes because it may give a more Kai look.

EDIT : Here's a somewhat re-animated frame of how Kai would look during this scene.

I was already planning that! :) It might be just a few frames and last a few seconds, because that might take forever.

Well, once I start streaming, there's going to be a run of episodes but there will be a few breaks in between. Atleast every 4-5 months there will be a 2 week-1 month break. But there will be reruns streaming in its place.

Okay, I just resumed working on Episode 1 yesterday, it may be finished today. Since I wanna get a good chunk done, the episodes won't be streamed and released until June. Why? Because that's when I'm out of school for the summer and can stream 12 episodes or so problem free. Once it resumes in September, there might be a short break, but most likely I'll keep streaming. a lot of the filler in episode 200 is cut out so far, and I'm only at the 3:28 mark of the Kai episode where as episode 200 has already had an eyecatch xD. The comic panel recreation they did is changed, so I cropped the actual animation that was put into a manga panel in the episode is now 100% visible. A sneak peek will be up soon. Just hang in there guys, I guarentee this project is FAR from over! Some scenes are also being reanimated. However, the Kai music will be mixed in with the Kuichi music, since its kinda hard to cut it out at times.

I like what you did with the opening, though I do agree with Mike about how it needs to be zoomed out and less stretched. The footage choices & way the opening flowed was good though, just might want to fix the way it looks.

The eyecatches were all pretty great, except the second does looks tad meh.

I'm not gonna go back and check the other pages, but what are you doing for the sounds and voices, just gonna use the Japanese audio from DBZ?

So you say you've cut the first half of Episode 200 into 3:28?

Have you cut out Canon? Episode 200 actually has barely any filler in it. Little chunks here and there, the scene where Gohan reads the passage about Mr. Satan, and the scene with Chichi doing laundry. In my cut, We're already about 7:00 minutes into the episode at the eye catch of 200, and I didn't include an opening.

My only guess is that you've cut out the scene of Gohan stopping the crooks and went from Gohan flying to school with the narrator in the background, and then showing up at School, meeting Videl and co. Which wouldn't be too weird, other than they reference his exact cloathes as the ones worn by the "gold-fighter". That scene might also be cut worthy, it just depends. Kai cut some Canon out, which in some cases was fine, it didn't mess with the narrative for the most part, sometimes it improved it, or could have improved it.

Anyways, I guess this post is a long way of asking are you planning on cutting Canon?

Well no, the first 10 minutes or so all together is episode 200. All the filler was cut out. I still kept the scene where Gohan stopped the crooks, but its shortened, I might upload a sneak peek sometime in the next few weeks.

Here's a quyick suggestion. How about chucking in some tracks from the Budokai games to compensate for the lack of new tracks from Yamamoto.

Hey guys I really hate to ask this but...does anyone know how to remove the BGM from an episode, like FinalBlast92 does? If so, please let me know.

One quick forum search later...
Basically, you need the Orange Bricks/Dragon Box DVDs, which contains the English + Kikuchi Score audio track. If you have it, then you're set.

DBZ bootlegs have the movie 9 cover with the pioneer movie 2 description on the back and the disc actually has a Japanese soap opera in MEPG2.

I'll admit, I've started retracing any scenes that are going to be reanimated, just like the actual Kai did...they might look sloppy but mainly quite accurate. Gohan's backpack is gone in one of them though

What if he made a site that has his project and posted the url to his site here, would that be alright?

No, because that's not really much different. It's an extra hurdle compared to direct downloads/video links in forum posts, but it still means we'd be allowing someone to promote a site that distributes problematic material.

UPDATE:

Episode 1 & 2 are finished!

Filler material is kept in obviously, because some filler you CAN NOT JUST CUT OUT *goes into a furious rage*

Not all filler, just ones I can't cut without fucking up the story.

I might have to delay the release of episodes again...but don't lose hope yet!

I REFUSE TO CANCEL THIS PROJECT...Unless TOEI reveals a Kai Buu Saga...never gonna happen...
