Favorite Voices?

Post by Ringworm128 » Sat Apr 16, 2011 7:41 am

Inspired by. http://daizex.fanboyreview.net/viewtopi ... =7&t=16152 What are your favorite voices not based on how well they fitted the character or the performance simply the voice itself? Mine. Brice Armstrong's Ginyu Slug and Yômaô voice It was very commanding/intimidating and just plain badass and very fitting for Ginyu. Though I'm disappointed he couldn't come back for Z Kai. Hes Ginyu voice with the acting and scripts of Z Kai would have been the most epic thing ever.

Nozawa as Goku, Gohan and Goten, the more I hear it the more I love it. And her Barduck and Tullece voices were awesome.
Norio Wakamoto as Cell ranges from Outrageous to Terrifying, he's so spot on as a villain.

Chris Sabat as Piccolo in Kai is spot on, he fits the character so well now and sounds great.

I definitely agree with Brice Armstrong's Ginyu. He had everything to the voice to make it a perfect fit for Ginyu.

One of my personal favorites has to be Linda Young's Frieza. I'm most likely the only one here to say that. I don't know if it's nostalgia or what that's making me say that but I love it.

You're definitely not the only one here to say that.

Favourite voices? Chris Ayres' Freeza, for the same reasons everyone always says. And I agree with The Time Traveller that Chris Sabat's Piccolo in Dragon Ball Kai is spot-on and sounds great. I like Dameon Clarke's Cell, who sounds fittingly cold and arrogant. And Colleen Clinkenbeard is my favourite voice actor for Son Gohan.

Good Lord man! Brice is average, but Linda Young was terrible!

If you like English dubs, have you heard Richard Newman's Ginyu?

Brice, average? He has one of the most memorable voices in the dub! Newman only made Ginyu sound like a generic leader/captain. In my opinion of course.

Sure Linda Young was terrible as Freeza, but I love it. I rather listen to her and Pauline Newstone than Chris Ayres any day.

Stephanie Nadolny as Kid Goku. I dunno if it's my absolute favorite but it's the one mainly on my mind at the moment. I think she was able to capture his usual childishly naive demeanor but she could switch it up and pull off his serious and angry moments as well.

Plus I just think she makes Goku likable. I detest Adult Goku. I adore Kid Goku.

Also, in reference to the OP-linked topic about evil laughter, I loved Sabat as King Piccolo. Though that was helped by the fact KP was just an awesome villain in general, he did have a nice crazy laugh. Really put the laughter in slaughter as they say.

I'm gonna have to give props to Sonny Strait. His Krillin is definitely a much different interpretation but I think he's taking an imitation of a previous voice and made it enjoyable and all his own.

I gotta disagree with all of you but I prefer R. Bruce Elliot's performance, Armstrong definitely sounded way to forced and he wasn't that great of an actor. Elliot gives a similar performance but definitely toned down enough so it doesn't hurt my throat whenever I hear it (imagine talking like that for long periods of time). I just like Elliot's voice in general.
If you're not here soon... GET ON!

Scott McNeil's Piccolo is one of my favorites, for sure. Brice Armstrong is also good.

Sonny Strait as Krillin is criminally underrated.
Funi Raditz is a guilty pleasure.

I absolutely despise English Kuririn, sorry to say. I can tolerate and even like a few of the English voices, like Piccolo (even though it only fits him when he's no longer evil strangely enough,) and Ginyu (just because I imagine him as a rogue, body-snatching drill sergeant ) but I hated Kuririn until I heard the Japanese Dub. He's one of my favourite characters now.

I'm not as familiar with VA names like some of you are, but if I had to choose:

Piccolo, Goku (at least first season), and Vegeta from Ocean era of DBZ. Yeah the writing was awful (worse than the original funimation stuff), but the VAs for those characters were fucking fantastic.

Now on to Funimation themeselves:

Chris Ayers - What more can I say about his outstanding performance as Freeza. I think his performance might be the only time I felt the character sounded actually threatening. My problem with Linda Young is simply you were too busy wondering if freeza was a dude, or a chick to actually be scared of the character.

Chris Sabat as Piccolo (Kai) - Such a massive improvement from the original dubs.

Son Goku(Child):Stephany Nadolny
Oh man, i`m gonna get a lot of shit for this, but i looooove her Child Son Goku, and i think both her voice and acting fits perfectly.

Son Goku(Adult):Sean Schemmel
Even though his acting goes from great to horrible, his voice will always be Son Goku. I like Masako Nosawas Goku, but Sean Schemmel is my favorite Son Goku.

Son Gohan(Child):Coleen Clickenbird
When i started watching the Anime, i watched the FUNI dub with Stephany Nadolny, and, i absolutely loved her performance. And, when i heard that she was being replaced in Z Kai, i was very sad. But, the voice wasnt too far away from Stephany Nadolnys voice, and Coleen Clickenbirds acting was much better.

Son Gohan(Boy):Stephany Nadolny
Even though Coleen Clickenbird is a better childvoice for Son Gohan, she cant measure up to Stepahnie Nadolnyes perormance for Son Gohan in this age. Her raspy voice really fits, and i hope, when Z Kai gets up to the Cell saga, that Colrrn Clickenbird changes her performance.

Kuririn:Tie:Sonny Strait and Mayumi Tanaka
I love both voices to death, and they both fit Kuririn very well.
Also known as "GeniDude" and "NerdyNorwegian"!

^ Nah, don't worry. I've searched extensively on this forum and while there are plenty of Nadolny haters they are equally opposed by fans.

The Dragon Ball dub in general seems to be mire highly regarded. Which I'm grateful for because I adore it.

It's tough for me to choose my favorite voices out of both the English dub and Original Japanese, I love almost all of them! I definitely love anyone and everyone that worked on the Ginyu Tokusentai in Japan, Toshio Furukawa, Ryo Horikawa, Takeshi Kusao, Daisuke Gori, Ryusei Nakao, Norio Wakamoto, and Ryuzaburo Otomo in the Japanese version.

Apart from the amateurish beginnings of some of these actors, I generally love the work done by Sean Schemmel, Chris Sabat, Sonny Strait, Eric Vale, John Burgmeier, Justin Cook, Jason Liebrecht, Monica Rial, Colleen Clinkenbeard, Dameon Clarke, Brice Armstrong, Duncan Brennan, Rick Robertson, Vic Mignogna, Bob Carter, and Chris Ayres from the FUNimation cast. I don't enjoy the Ocean dub in general but do like Ian Corlett, Peter Kelamis, Terry Klassen, Brian Drummond, and Scott McNeil.

I prefer Toru Furuya as Yamcha :D
I think the voice fits him the most, it's hard to imagine Yamcha without the voice.
Wishes she can change her name to YamchaFan (her name everywhere else)
Obssessed with the Earthlings and the original DB anime

Ryo Horikawa is one of my absolute favorites. I absolutely love his performance as Vegeta, and I've actually met the man, he was rather awesome.

Then there's the good ole' standards, I LOVE Masako Nozawa, that woman's voice is amazing.

And I used to under-appreciate Mayumi Tanaka until One Piece, now I absolutely adore every time I hear her voice.

Oh, and Norio Wakamoto. I can't stop singing undying praise for Norio Wakamoto, the man is a god! I love him in DBZ as well as pretty much everything else he's ever done, namely Alexander Anderson in Hellsing. He's absolutely AMAZING in that.
