Should Kai have used more insert songs?

I've always been a sucker for anime insert songs, especially Dragon Ball's insert songs. One of the problems I've always had with the Dragon Ball Z score is that only a handful of inserts were used despite the soundtrack containing over 200 awesome songs that would have really spiced up the music score.

Now I'm not saying you need an insert every episode but an occasional song here and there is neat. Insert songs should only be used during a quiet scene with action and not too much talking (I'm looking at you Shura-Iro no Senshi in Z Episode 20). Awesome song but Kaio talking over the whole thing kinda ruined it.

Kai's vocal soundtrack despite being only 15 songs has been really awesome and this time around they used a lot more in the show. Most of them were well placed but some of them but others seemed off and other awesome songs weren't used in the show at all . For Example:

*Vegeta's Theme, Saiyan Blood, placement was used during a filler power up scene really irked me. I feel that a better placement for this song would be either his Ozaru transformation, his first SSJ transformation (instead of absolute silence ), or sometime when he's Majin Vegeta.

*Trunks' Theme, The Lone Warrior, was during a fight but unfortunately during a losing fight for Trunks which makes the whole thing seem rather off. Perhaps it could have been placed during his first (on-screen) SSJ appearance instead of that weird Jaws-sounding theme or when he kills Cell in his timeline (who knows it could have been but we'll never know now.)

*Kuririn's supposed Theme, Win Tough Fight, wasn't used at all. Supposing it truly is his theme I think the best place to used this is during power up and unleasing of his attack on the Saibaiman after Yamucha dies.

So what are your though on the Kai inserts? Too many songs, just enough, or too little and if you had the choice where would you place them?

Well technically, when the Lone Warrior played he wasn't losing. After the eye-catch is where it goes wrong and then the theme no longer plays.


But really, I think.....maybe....when Gohan goes ssj2.....they could have used something there.


I haven't listened to all the Kai songs though.

To me, insert song in the Z era sounds kind of... childish. I like the insert songs in the original DB, but honestly I don't want to hear any songs (except Ginyu Force theme) in the Z era.

What difference does it make if it's an insert is used in the original or the "Z Era" ? It's all technically the same isn't it?

I disagree. Saiyan Blood is a really goofy and unserious song. I think the placement that they used is just fine.

Freeza's insert song was really good, but since I stopped buying Kai after the third set, that's the only one that really stood out to me.

Cell should have had his own, and Buu as well (provided the series ever went there, that is).

He does. It's called "News of the Cell Games" and played when he was destroying the army.

I just looked it up and gave it a listen. Cool that both main villains had their own song, but overall, I liked Freeza's better.

I don't like any of the inserts they used in Kai except for the Ginyu one. the one they played when Freeza impaled Kuririn was kind of putting off.
