And here's what Vinícius had to say about Brazil:
w0rd.Vinícius Braga wrote:In 1999-2000 the anime was transmited by Cable TV(Cartoon Network) and later on broadcast television(Band). I had Cable Tv and recorded the show in VHS. When a tape was fully completed(kind of 18 episodes in SLP recorded). I used to borrow to my friends so they watched before the transmission in a broadcast TV. The source material for the tv was the mexican version(distributed by INTERTRACK). So we never had the uncut version with the brazilian dubbing(i don't know about america, but in Brazil the fans like very much the dubbed version. I know that in america there were more than a dubbing and various "problematics" dvd releases). Most of the sex insinuation scens were cut, but incredibly many characters gave their middle finger and it was transmited in broadcast television(that time the censorship on television was lighter. And blood in cartoons were not a problem).
Few years later, the series was fansubbed that way we had acess to the original uncut version. But logically without our beloved brazilian dub.
In Brazil, In the year 2000, some publishers decided to launch some mangas in the Brazilian market. The First mangas that came were Dragon Ball and Saint Seiya(Knights of Zodiac, that is a huge sucess on Brazil). Instead of the normal ~200 pages tankobon format. The mangas had about 100 pages each in a format that the brazilians fão nicknamed meio-tanko(it's a abreviation of half tankobon). The Dragon Ball had 83 editions and has published from started to finish, some editions have 1 or 2 chapters more, that's why were 83, instead of 84(Doing the math 42 tankobonsx2). At some point the publisher decided to spilt the manga in Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z and launch the editions simultaneosly because people already watched the anime on television. So there was no surprise or spoiler for them).
We already have the KAZEN TV Anime Guide 2 Son Goku Densetsu published in Brazil with name of Enciclopédia Dragon Ball Z - A Lenda de Son Goku (Dragon Ball Z Encyclopedia - Son Goku Legend)
We had all movies and speciais launched in VHS that game with a magazine( i don't know if in america this is commom, but we had every month a "magazine that came with a movie as bonus", but if you look at the price, it was the other way around. It was a movie that came with a magazine as bonus. This magazines usually had the plot of the movie and the characters profile)
In 2004 they decided to launch the Kanzenban editions, this time in the same format of the japanese edition. But this publisher(which name is Conrad) started to go bankrupt and stopped the publication in Volume 16 in 2007(of the 34). The publisher didn't go out of business but publishs a lot fewer than in it's past days. Until little time ago(in think last march) the title was "on hold" and they always said that would continue to publish the Dragon Ball Kanzenban, but didn't had a launch date. As I said in last march they finally confirmed that was cancelled.
This ironically give some hope for the fans. The reason is because the manga of Neon Genesis Evangelion was inthe same situation and when it was confirmed cancelled, another Brazilian publisher(JBC Mangás), bought the Evangelion copyrights and "finished"(because in Japan it's in "on-going", but Sadamoto takes a eternity to draw again) to publish with in the same format. So this might happen with Dragon Ball Kanzenban
But Brazil never had the series uncut or launched in DVD in a official way until little time ago.
It began to had Dragon Ball(not the Z version) realeased in DVD but the format is awful! We never had the uncut series dubbed, so what did they do. They launch a DVD with 3 episodes of the series, but in total it's six titles on the DVD. Why? You can watch in japenese uncut with portuguese subtitles or you can watch the cut broadcast televon version with the brazilian dub. But the videos are from diffrentes sources! If you decided to wtach the cut version to listen to the dub. The image quality is worse than the uncut version, it's not just a audio switching.
That's why i decided to import the american dragon boxes(waiting for boxes 1 and 2 arrive). Although i like very much the brazilian dub. Some fans synched the dub with the uncut version and matain the subtiltes on the edited parts, but nothing oficial.
In america the next episodes preciews were not dubbed, but here in Brazil the actor that dubbed Goku(Wendel Bezerra), everytime that he goes to a Anime and Manga Covention or something like that, he has to say: Oi! Eu sou o Goku! (Hello, I'm Goku that appears in every next episode preview)
Another curiosity, do you guys ever saw Squarepants Spongebob doing a Kamehameha? In Brazil, Wendel Bezerra also dubs Spongebob and he did this crossover. I will put a youtube link below:

Besides that Kai premiered last week on brazilian cable tv (cartoon network) and we had some problems. The version that came was the nicktoons cut version, so again it's not uncut. But it's a lot more edited than the mexico version that we had of Z. Other than that the transmission is not in HD(i really don't understand why transmit a HD remake not in HD!) and the stduio that dubbed the series(BKS) is different from the studio that dubbed the z series 12 years ago, so we had some characters with the voices changed(piccollo, vegeta and freeza e.g). Goku was to be changed but the fan pressure make the studio and the voice actor had an agreement to dub Goku in Kai.
