You're in denial, Mike, this has to become a Street Fighter website now.
Dragon Ball will never die, as long as the planet doesn't explode. Even when Toriyama dies there'll still be Dragon Ball.
Since we can't discuss anymore new episodes of Kai there won't be anything to talk about other then the FUNiboxes and whatever else in going on with Dragonball.
Who cares if there's no new episodes of Kai, we can discuss what we want about the series, the series stopped airing in the US ages before Kai was created didn't it? And there was still plenty to talk about. Whatever else is going on with Dragon Ball is what the site is all about, not Kai, Kai is a small piece of it. Though it's a big small piece, medium sized at best.

Re: What's going to happen now?
Yeah, as soon as Toriyama-sama dies nobody will care about Dragon Ball anymore. The only reason anybody likes it is just to make him feel good? Right? You're really underestimating the fanbase. I personally have never cared about DB Kai nor any of this merchandise and I've only played a few of the video games ever and yet I can still spend hours upon hours in a day debating Dragon Ball online despite being at it for years and years. There wasn't that much to debate about Kai anyway. It's not like it's truly new content. The only really big thing was the whole controversy with Kenji Yamamoto.
Even when all of the people behind the series are dead and all of us are either dead or don't care anymore there'll still be a ton of new fans around to debate and enjoy the franchise just as we did.

There's a lot of things that have lived beyond the creator's death.Choice195 wrote:Isn't that over-exaggerating?The Time Traveller wrote:You're in denial, Mike, this has to become a Street Fighter website now.

Lord of the Rings for example. Perhaps it's apples to oranges, but the basis of my point is still in there.

Also this. I just got here, the site can't die yet.VegettoEX wrote:Even if nothing new were to ever come out ever again (which is laughably unlikely), there are still a bazillion more things to discuss, not to mention new fans coming in that will want to discuss plenty that may have already made the rounds with older fans.
Plus the fans brought in because of Kai. Kai will end, but what about them experiencing the rest of the series for the first time? New blood is typically good.

The manga and anime existing along with all the toys and posters' existence aren't powered by his living, they won't evaporate when he's gone, and it'd be over-exaggerating if I said he'll never die!Choice195 wrote:Isn't that over-exaggerating?The Time Traveller wrote:You're in denial, Mike, this has to become a Street Fighter website now.

And when an artist dies their legacy usually rises in popularity, Van Gogh wasn't appreciated when he was alive but he's great post-mortem, and people who are already "great" get even greater when they die, it happened to Da Vinci, Mozart, Beethoven, Elvis and Michael Jackson.

Osamu Tezuka has been dead for quite some time, and his more popular series are still being talked about and still have new things coming out.Choice195 wrote:Isn't that over-exaggerating?The Time Traveller wrote:You're in denial, Mike, this has to become a Street Fighter website now.

This site has been around for 13 years. I don’t see it slowing down any time soon.
Dragonball is just that popular. They’ll always be merchandise, video games and such coming out.
And who knows what'll happen in the future? Maybe a new movie will be released or something else equally exciting.
Re: What's going to happen now?
Because we totally don't have 4 sub-forums that have nothing to do with Kai that were going before it was announced, and have yet to stagnate since its end.Choice195 wrote:You guys don't get it, Since we can't discuss anymore new episodes of Kai there won't be anything to talk about other then the FUNiboxes and whatever else in going on with Dragonball.

Unfortunately, the franchise is just like the dragonballs themselves. As soon as Toriyama dies, all DB products the world over will instantly turn to stone. The Time Traveller wrote:The manga and anime existing along with all the toys and posters' existence aren't powered by his living, they won't evaporate when he's gone

Michael Crichton died, but did Jurassic Park die with him? Nope. There's still an interest in the franchise, and it's coming back with a new game this year. And hopefully, we will get a reboot for the movies.Herms wrote:Unfortunately, the franchise is just like the dragonballs themselves. #1 rule of Dragon Ball Z:
NOTHING STAYS DEAD (except villains).
50 years from now I will still be watching DBZ.

As long as there are fans, the series will never die.

Re: What's going to happen now?
Just because there may not be any merchandise coming out doesn't mean there won't be anything to discuss. The universe of Dragon Ball is 42 volumes, 508 episodes, 17 movies, a bunch of OVAs, a bunch of dubs, and 2 specials. Are you seriously telling me there's nothing to discuss there?
Re: What's going to happen now?
I'm sure there will always be something to discuss. Besides, there are plenty of age-old debates which have yet to be settled: the classic dub vs. sub, kid Buu vs super Buu, Gohan super saiyan 2 in movie 10 or not, Broly: is his power really maximum?, Gogeta vs. Veggetto, How many women did Mr. Roshi grope in his life time?, and the list goes on!
Seriously though, I'm sure Dragon Ball will always have fans and I'm sure new ones (hopefully not just 9 year-olds) are born every day.
