The Freeza arc is well done and the Android arc starts off below par, but picks up once 19 & 20 arrive.

I'd say it's consistently great throughout the whole series so far. Especially anything to do with Freeza.

I would say it gets better. Yes, there's still an odd line here and there that could have been better, but overall it's great. I also second what was said earlier about Freeza. Michael J. Tatum, who is in charge of writing the English scripts, obviously has a complete understanding of Freeza's character. Then again, I am a tad biased, because I loved the performance of Chris Ayers as Freeza so much that I was actually bummed when Trunks killed him.

To this day, I still find it funny that when we first heard Ayers, there was a near-universal voice of disapproval which (rather quickly) did a total 180 into a near-universal voice of praise.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

I'm with you there.

Also, off topic, you have the voice of a hip teenage angel!!

I'll keep this brief because I also don't want to go off-topic, but thank you very much. I've never heard the word "angel" attached to my voice but, hell, I'll take it!

I noticed that too. I wouldn't say the overall quality dropped but the scripts definitely did. Was there some kind of change in writers around this time?

I'd also agree that the script and performance conjoined perfectly with Freeza. I think Ayers in Kai definitely brought Freeza's true character to an English speaking audience. He definitely steals the show.

By the way it's J. Michael Tatum, not Michael J. Tatum. Just like R. Bruce Elliot, who plays Ginyu in Kai, Tatum actually took inspiration from him to do that.

I'd have to check myself, but I think someone on this board said Tatum wasn't writing the Trunks episodes.

Freeza was the best we've seen of any Funimation dub of DBZ. I'm hoping the uncut DVD will fix some of the problems with Trunks, but I'm not holding my breath on that front.
