Variations on "Dragonball Z"
What versions of this theme:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOcAEZhC ... feature=iv are there. I know the Recap music is one, but where can i get it, and are there other variations on this?
Also known as "GeniDude" and "NerdyNorwegian"!
Re: Variations on "Dragonball Z"
First, there are 2 versions of it used as intros for the series.
Garlic - Cell Games:

Otherworld Tournament - Kid Buu:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOcAEZhCr_4
Next, there is the remixed version for Movie 8.

[Vocal]

After that, we have the version used in Legacy of Goku 2...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZUgnJIKJdw
and the kickass variation from DBZ Taiketsu (the only good part of the game, in my opinion).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ND6d3y6M5gc
From there, we have some uses throughout the series.
Here is a common version from the scene where Gohan attacks Freeza:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQ92imwy4l4
Note that in that version, we have a higher pitched choir at one point. A shorter version of this was also used a few episodes later when Goku had to try to seal the volcano Freeza created on Namek.
http://www.youtube.com/user/coycoy88#p/ ... 9Un9OFXHvY
It also plays when Goku "slap some sense into [Freeza]" after the energy disc chase.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XR7QGhB0YG8
Finally, I can't find a video of it, but it plays when Goku returns and saves Gohan at the last second from being killed by Super Buu.

I did A rip of the "Gohan Vs Second Form Frieza" A while back. It's my favorite variation of the song.

Bruce Bruce Bruce.....that HAS to be him.
I believe this was the original version written as BGM and as Goku's theme. The full blown version was done later for the intro.xzero wrote:

Re: Variations on "Dragonball Z"
The vocal version says it was some band called Tendril.
Another song of theirs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwMLXNX-j0o
Though if Faulconer wrote their cover, or had something to do with it, I would've figured you'd know...?

My guess is Faulconer didn't have anything to do with the Tendril one. I was outa there after Dec 2000. I've talked to various people who left the studio after me (Ben, Trevor, Mike, & Julius to be specific) but I never heard anything about that remix (but that might not be something they'd mention). I figure it was done totally independent of Faulconer, just cause I don't really see him working with the band. I doubt they needed that.

Re: Variations on "Dragonball Z"
Tendril is credited with doing the opening music for Movie 8, so I'm assuming Faulconer had little to no involvement with it. They also provided the track that played over bigger battles in that movie, "The Invisibles."
Also, Scott, in my original post, I was going to mention that this song sort of serves as Goku's Theme, which makes sense except for its use over Gohan beating up Freeza. Oddly, on Best of DBZ v.1, you guys labeled the music used in the Garlic Jr., Cell, and Buu saga for Gohan losing control as "Gohan Fights Freeza." Was that track originally going to play over that scene, or was it not even written yet at the time?

By "get," you mean download?
Personally, I'd recommend picking up the original release of Movie 8 if you want that stuff. The instrumental and the vocal version were both on it.
Coycoy has some of the unreleased music on his webpage that I think his sig links to (if not, his Youtube account definitely does). The only version that was released was the one you originally linked to, so of course downloading it is off limits since it's still commercially available. Everything else is just a matter of scouring the internet. But definitely check out Coycoy's page for lots of good stuff.

Yeah that was a pretty dumb name choice for that track. It was a originally a generic track written during a lull before the Garlic Jr Saga. The Frieza Saga had ended and we had no new episodes to work on. I brought in some Garlic Jr images printed from PlanetNamek.com and we started writing beds from those. Gohan Fights Frieza was a generic hero theme Mike arranged with no particular purpose, not even with Gohan in mind. Later when Gohan killed Spice Boys it seemed to fit really well, and it became his theme. How it got named "Gohan Fights Frieza" must have been Bruce's genius....lord knows, we'd have to ask him, haha but wouldn't trust a word he said about it.

Re: Variations on "Dragonball Z"
That's really interesting. It's funny; I never even noticed that song during the Garlic Jr. episodes when I first watched them, but it felt like it became truly iconic when used over Gohan decimating the Cell Jrs. Only later did I discover it was used elsewhere beforehand.
Re: Variations on "Dragonball Z"
This piece defines Dragon Ball Z to me--for no particular reason other than that I grew up with it, of course.
"My dear friend, how can I make this even more painful for you? I could crush your hands, rip off both of your ears, or maybe I'll just smash in your tiny little cranium. Ehehehehehehehe."

Re: Variations on "Dragonball Z"
This was the dub's Cha La Head Cha La. For dub fans back in the day, you heard this song, you knew you were in for a great half hour of television. Of course, the main title sequences used for the dub were rarely if ever actually used on Toonami, which kind of sucked, but the Toonami intros were cool in their own way.

Every time I heard that DBZ loop I would get all hyped. I still love that tune to this day, it's so DBZ
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

Back in the day I would make sure that I get in front of my TV a few minutes early before DBZ came on so I would hear it and it always got me hyped up. It's that damn good.
