Contrary to popular opinion, I like a select few of the singles covers. Screenshots or not, they're special in their own way if you grew up with that shit. My favorite cover of all of those is this one.
First part of the series I ever owned. I was browsin' movies at Walmart one fine day, saw this and was like,
"Hmm... maybe after not seeing anything since Cell, I could get a couple of these *looks at the back* OH My GAWD! Super Saiyan 3?!?! Mommy mommy mommy!" (ok, maybe not quite like that...) But, after hearing about it for several years before-hand, and seeing it in a certain game, I could finally watch it....
The Super Saiyan 3 transformation. Best. Day. Ever. The transformation takes a whole episode, but this tape has another episode before it, so either way, it's all one big amazing build up to the amazingness that comes. Then the episode after with some good ol' asskicking, and the punching balloon scene. Oh! Thank you, sir! May I have another, sir?
It doesn't stop there, I got another screenshot tape favorite.
BAM! Big goofy clamshell case 'n' all.
(Shitty MSPaint clamshell design for effect)
Another part of the series I'd wanted to see for
oh so long: Freeza's long-lost, almost mythological, muthafreakin' brother! At least, he'd become some kind of folklore in
my mind. No one ever showed me a picture of him, I used to think that he might be that other weird purple dude I'd seen in a picture or two before (Janemba). And I have to say, I was impressed with this movie, bless my young little heart (when I had one). I didn't really get so much of a kick out of movie 6 though.
(not that I hate it or anything, it just wasn't as great)
And why stop at just the series? I think I'll give you a game.
*lifts up those nostalgia shades*
Ok... so it's not that impressive of a cover. Almost a tad on the "so simple it could be done by any 12 year old with Photoshop" kinda thing... But dammit...
*puts nostalgia shades back on* Back then, it was
a Dragonball Z game. Before all them Bootykais, and Tenkeechis, if you had a DBZ game, you were the King-Shit of the Neighborhood. But not just any DBZ game, this was
THE DBZ game. And I'll be damned if still isn't worthy of being so. Hella fun. I'm also glad to see a few of the same art pieces used pop up lookin' spiffier than ever; those being SS Goku for Supersonic Warriors, Vegeta and Freeza for our Dragon Book covers. I think it might be too late for that Cell, but here's hopin' for Buu. Some day, I gotta get me the superior, slightly different, Saturn version of good ol' Legends. If anyone would be cool to hook me up, that'd also be the shit.
I gotta say, I also don't mind the idea of the UUEs. Dark red, coupled with that shitty intro, it is quite lame. But take away the intro and add in all that shininess, plus the big box for 'em. It's actually really unique looking. I dig it. And I dig the blue more, being my favorite color. Shame they didn't finish at least that set. Also, I don't think anyone could hate the Dragon Box covers. In either region. They're too badass.
Least favorite now? But I had so much fun with all that up there... Fine. But I don't think I'll post pics. You all know...
Season 1. Cross-eyed Vegeta.
Not only is this the biggest bullshit release we've had so far (if you like it, cool. Glad someone can ignore flaws in things), but that picture of Vegeta is also kind of the spitting image of what people see in the show who don't give it a real chance, and wave the series off as a "stupid cartoon where they just yell at each other for 40 episodes and look like they're about to take the biggest dump in the world" >< Augh... hate that so much. And being as popular, and just as
everywhere as these Season sets are, that's exactly what people are remembering the show as when they see fucktarded Vegeta, with the hugest, yet tinniest, cross-eyed look as he could possibly muster.
Anyways. I can't think of much that I could say is my absolute least favorite other than that. I'm not much of a fan of the Kai boxes, but... I like the shininess. hehe. I also don't like how the Movie 11 cover cut out Cyborg 18. Seemed a bit unnecessary. Especially since it was in favor of more naked Broly in the front shot....
